Every once in awhile, I'd catch my grand-father, a WWI veteran, humming this song melancholically as he sat in his favorite over-stuffed chair and gazed out the window of his home in Wildwood, NJ. I always wondered what memories he was seeing in the far distance.

I doubt i'm the only fella to be reduced to a teary mess right now. Thank uou for sharing this info. My Grandfather was a gun team leader in the Kings Royal Horse Artillery during the WW1. He passed away long before I was born, but left his medals to my Dad. This song is everything.

Valhalla got many young farm boys 100 years ago. Turning up at the Longhouse ready to party. The bravery and sacrifice can never be forgotten and I pray that we never have the events of the first half of the 20th Century play out in our of our children's lifetimes.

I’d like to dedicate this song to the men and women whom served their countries. As well as other nations. Thank you for your services. Your time given the circumstances is invaluable to all of us. William Stone.

They were summoned from the hillside They were called in from the glen, And the country found them ready At the stirring call for men. Let no tears add to their hardships As the soldiers pass along, And although your heart is breaking Make it sing this cheery song Keep the Home Fires Burning, While your hearts are yearning, Though your lads are far away They dream of home. There's a silver lining Through the dark clouds shining, Turn the dark cloud inside out 'Til the boys come home. Overseas there came a pleading, "Help a nation in distress." And we gave our glorious laddies Honour bade us do no less, For no gallant son of freedom To a tyrant's yoke should bend, And a noble heart must answer To the sacred call of "Friend." Keep the Home Fires Burning, While your hearts are yearning, Though your lads are far away They dream of home. There's a silver lining Through the dark clouds shining, Turn the dark cloud inside out 'Til the boys come home.

Thank you so much for listening to my song and for your kind words. Lottie. When I sang the song, I imagined being the parents of a soldier in that terrible war waiting for news of him. So my heart was affected deeply by the words and beautiful melody. Singing songs is a great way of softening the difficult things that life brings. I have just looked at your channel and I wish you luck with it........perhaps you can sing a song or play a musical instrument!

KZbin do not allow me to upload a video longer than 15 mins. You could download this video using a KZbin downloader. Then you could put the video in Windows Movie Maker several times (or another movie maker). Sorry I can't help more.
