In this video I bring you along as I "oil spray" a customers 2015 Chevy Silverado with the classic Fluid Film. This is the stuff I use on the daily here in the rust belt of NY. There are a lot of options out there to oil spray your vehicle with. You just need to pick one and DO IT! Happy spraying! ‪@fluidfilmusa‬

My experience is that the fluid film branded gun is ok for home use but won't hold up if you go through 55 gallon drums. That pro plus gun looks pretty sweet, though I have no experience with it. Also, don't fool yourself thinking you are going to do a whole car with cans. Besides the cost, I've found that the product in the aerosol cans is different. It seems to be thinner and not work as well. Just my experiences as a home mechanic who has fluid filmed my own and friends cars.

As a youth I worked at the Walmart in town and we did undercoating. I had a guy with a truck maybe 10 years old that was in real nice shape (live in the salt belt), he asked me to do a good job so I asked him if he cared if it drips a lot. He said no. Well as a bored teenager on a quiet day, I went nuts on that thing. Think I used a good 6 or 7 gallons on it. There were no unpainted surfaces ANYWHERE that I missed. And I put it on so thick it probably dripped for a month! 😂😂

Fluid film was in the middle somewhere. I made up my own for a while, summer grade bar n chain oil, a toilet ring, (beeswax) and 5 cakes of paraffin wax. then heated Mine did as well as fluid film. Do not use any kind of hydraulic fluid. It absorbs moisture. The waxy stuff on the frame is probably lanolin put on at the factory.

Growing up in the desert it still blows my mind that you have to do something like this to keep your car from rotting away. We do partially pay for it with plastic that become brittle and breaks into a thousand little pieces if you look at it wrong.

Vehicles have TOO MUCH DAMN PLASTIC ON THEM, NO STAINLESS OR GOOD CHROME FOR DECADES. Vehicles are pretty much DISPOSABLE ANY MORE, DAMN NEAR LIKE A BIC LIGHTER. Try working on your vehicle up here in the N.E. in the winter time, LOL every plastic part breaks off as you touch it. It's either so brittle from the heat or from the cold when working on them. Hi Eric O! I live in southern Norway and our climate requires rust preventive treatment. They use salt on our roads every winter. The most used stuff here is a Valvoline product called Tectyl. Comes in two variations, thin fluid for sills, frames, door bottoms. Its highly penetrable and is applied with a gun like the one you use. The other version is thick and wax like and is for all underside use. Its applied with a high pressure air gun. Doesen't drip after application. I love this stuff and it keeps the metal worms away. There is also a product called Dinitrol, but I know little about it. I think both products are made in USA.

Yes. Those bitumen-like coatings put on when the car is new are a disaster! Any pinhole allows water to get under the coating, it then can’t get out and rots out the metal underneath. Worst part is the rust is covered by the coating and you can’t see it.

I agree. Leasing or trading every few years is the only way to have a car in the northeast. I buy a car about 1 year old, and trade it before it turns to powder. Any rustproofing is only as good as the person applying it.

I started doing this to my cars once you recommended it. My 04 Vibe was already in great shape, and still is. I had an 04 Endeavor, and doing this totally helped slow the spread of rust on it until I finally got rid of it. My new Sienna I plan on doing this in the next few weeks as I prefer keeping things for a long time.

Glad you showed us the process Eric. I don’t live in the North but we do get some snow and they do use some salt on the roads. I had a 2006 Silverado that the rocker panels and cab corners rotted out on after about 10 yrs but everything else was pretty good. So far my 2014 hasn’t shown any signs of rust (KNOCK ON WOOD).

Inside the boxed frame & bed crossmembers, & frame cross members, as well as rocker & door post innards, great job! I’ve done the same for 35 yrs, details like this make all the difference in good protection. The first application takes me 3 hrs, then yearly ‘high splash’ areas usually 1-1.5 hrs. A lot of rust is created from cavity sweat.

Nice thorough job!! Fluid Film "is the best" and on my 2019 f150 it looks like new underneath. I did 2 full sprays (2 years apart) and 3 touch ups (every fall) since new! I live in Northern Ontario, Canada! (salt country!!) Any protection, done regularly, is essential to protect against corrosion!

I don't remember if it was the last time you talked about this, or somewhere else online, but.. I remember people saying they don't bother doing this, instead they just do weekly car washes with underbody spray jets. I understand the appeal, because that makes your car look nice too. That is not enough though, that is not a replacement for this. You have to protect the metal itself. That salt is just eating away at your car/truck in between washes if you don't protect the metal.

Up in rural Vermont I go every year to a local shop that’s been going for over 40 years that uses their own oil formula. It drips a little for few days and it doesn’t affect the plastics or gaskets or stuff you hear about from the doubters. A lot of towns send their highway trucks there every year

Back in the day, we sprayed used motor oil all over the bottom of our trucks in the western Oblast of the PRM, just to your east. The Berkshires become salt mounds in the winter just like the PRNY. Worked pretty well and was an easy way to get rid of our used oil that we changed every 2000 miles back then.

Just bought a vehicle that spent a year in the rust belt. Very little surface rust on the frame, but, have fluid filmed it as precaution. Living on the gulf coast, we deal with salt spray. Not nearly as bad as the rust belt, but, a coating of fluid film protects vehicles from the salt air for a few years. Thanks for sharing this as always! Its great to see how these fluid filmed vehicles hold up with time.

I'm in south eastern Ontario, and Krown charges $149 Cdn plus 13% tax for a minivan. But every year, they partner with CAA to offer a scratch & win promo in the June time frame with a minimum discount of $25. So it costs me $129 plus tax. You could win the whole cost of the treatment, but I've never been that lucky 😞

Thank you for turning me on to Fluid Film. I watched one of your video's years ago about using fluid film. I live in Chicago land same issues with winter salt here. I have a 2014 Ram. Started using fluid film in 2016. Its parked outside and driven every day year round. No major rust at all on the truck. There is a light surface rust on the driveshaft differential and a few spots on the frame. I do it ever year with the cans. It takes me 10 to 12 cans and about a day to do it but is worth it. I even drilled small access holes on the inside of the bed and spray inside with a extended straw. Then I use a small rubber grommet to plug the holes. Do the same with all the factory holes as well. I have no bed rocker or corner cap rust at all. One more place I forgot. I pull the third brake light and spray the inside of the roof. I have had problems with those seals leaking form time to time.

I do my 06 GMC 2500 every year even though it rarely sees the PA salt. This all looks very familiar except that I'm laying on my back doing it. It's very easy to get "lost" under there and I'm sure I end up spraying the same place multiple times and other places not at all. Either way, no rust at all on my 17 year old truck. I finally decided to give the yearly oil treatment a try with my 2019 Caravan. I go to Rust Check, $200 a treatment. Have it done in Nov/Dec…their stuff isn’t as thick as Fluid Film, so still seems to seep into places even in the cold weather. I do use cans of Fluid Film to reapply in wheel wells, and other spots during winter. Still undecided on it, but will keep doing it until this van stops driving, or just rusts out like my other three Dodges did!
