Sharpie makes a black marker called a Rub-a-Dub that stays on for me, also called a laundry marker.

I use impresso tags from McKenzie. I cut them in half and get two out of one.

we use the 1 gallon plastic ice cream buckets I have a lot of them my better half says I have an addiction lol 🤣 they also work very well with permeant markers free free free well not for me though

Hey man if you sew a deer up and after it dries you can see the sew is there any way to fix it and do you have any tips on sewing holes up no matter what I do you can still see it

You can use flocking to pack the seam and then paint to match. Depending on where the hole is, sometimes using a brad pusher works better to make a cleaner seam

I got a question for ya. Have you ever tried Dan rinehart deer mannikins with preset eyes you don’t need any clay around the eyes. I’m not sure that I like that the glue is the only thing that holds the eye in place besides a few pins.

I never have. I will say though that I have done a few heads without tucking any of the eye skin and only gluing and it works really well if the hide is thinned enough

Question. How do I measure how big of an eye to purchase? I'm going to be attempting my very first mount and have all the materials sorted that I need except eyes.

If you will look on the description of the form you order, they usually list the eye size needed for that form size

I use to use the old Dan Chase supplies years ago when I did some taxidermy. I used his dry tan preservative. I thought it was easy and seems to still be holding up well on my mounts. What are your thoughts on the dry tan rub on procedure? I’ve been out of this for several years now but thinking about getting back into it. I feel like I may be behind in the times🤔?

The chemicals around now are safer and easier to use for sure and create a really nice tanned product. I like a tan better than a dry preservative myself because it allows a much slower drying process so you have more control over how everything sets up as the glue dries
