Great tips, I would recommend that you also close up the large gapping hole at the bottom of the door where that a/c unit condensation hose is run through, you will or have already had rats, snakes and other critters that are looking for food and comfort from the heat or cold!

I already have a portable a/c. It is nice. Toshiba. I have two cats that I put in the garage at night. I do not have a window in my garage. I am not sure how to do all this but I think I know a man at my church that has his own air condition business. I live in Arkansas and it get so hot in garage for my cats. This is great idea. Thank you for sharing.

I see these insulation kits on Amazon for the garage. Are they safe? I hear they add extra weight on the door and may put stress on the motors, but then if that’s so, wouldn’t it have bad reviews?

Adding foam to the door is a great idea But there are things you need to consider when doing so You do add weight to the door And if you don’t have the right door springs for that added weight The additional load will be put on your door opener And either the springs fail or the door lift Ask me how I know

Cool tip fact: if people have their garage from the outside painted white their inside garage will stay 11 to 17°C/20 to 30°F cooler automatically compared to a darker colour garage because white is a great reflector of the sunlight that reflects 80 to 90% of sunlight meanwhile darker colours absorb more heat radiating it everywhere making it hotter and that something they are not going to want in hot climates so they need to go with white garages instead. On the other hand if they are in colder climates where they get mostly winter, then a darker colour or black coloured garage would be more acceptable because it absorbs a lot more heat to keep their garage warmer but if they get both summer and winter which basically most of us do then they all should get a colour garage that is between a lighter and darker colour to even out the temperature for all four seasons 👍. Great video by the way 😊

Glad you showed your 3D Printer, because that's one of my main reasons for wanting to make my garage a workshop! I also want to be able to access my saws and have a workbench to actually do projects. Now I have to check Craigslist for a mini-bike. Would be awesome for my daughter who's 2! Well, with how long it takes me to do things she'll be old enough to ride it when it's done 🤘🤘

I don't think there is a solution. In FL as well (unfortunately). Even if you tried running a portable a/c, as soon as you open the garage door, all that air escapes and will take a long time to re-cool. Plus, it would have to be really insulated.

Swamp coolers no, air conditioners yes.
@markm3.16

A swamp cooler like an A/C unit cool the air drawn through it. If your swamp cooler is drawing from outside it will need a place to discharge the extra air now in your home, however a standalone swamp cooler draws air from & discharges within the same room therefore no external venting is needed (better cooling but maybe more humidity.) A/C units discharge the heat through the refrigerant lines to the condenser where a standalone unit will need to vent outside because the condenser is inside. A window unit has the condenser sitting outside the window. I hope this helps.

You really need those portable air conditioners to exhaust upwards, not downwards because the hot air. Considering it's a garage I doubt that portable a/c cools very well. I live in the northeast and am more concerned with keeping it warmer in there but as it sits it never gets colder than 35° being an attached garage. Would insulated board improve that temp enough to make it warmer so I can work in there during the winter? Say 40° plus?

My understanding is that type of air conditioner, where it’s one unit and the evaporator and the condenser are not split, is not the best idea. Because the unit draws air from inside the room, that creates low pressure that is filled by air from the outside through gaps and cracks, which is not conditioned. A mini-split would be more appropriate for this application, but likely even more expensive as well. May be good for your dry climate, but in the south, it’s not good and chews up electricity.

A ton of these videos have been showing up on my YT feed and I'll say it AGAIN. Insulating your garage door is cool, but anytime you add weight to a garage door. ANY GARAGE DOOR, OR ANY AMOUNT OF WEIGHT, it changes your spring calculation. Which means you make your garage door significantly heavier and it screws up the entire balance of the door. Your door becomes heavier, and it now will fall down to ground like a rock. And if you have an opener, plan on purchasing a new one as well because you most likely just destroyed it. What your supposed to do is call a pro and have the springs changed to the next size up. Because your existing springs can't handle that added weight. Nor can the opener. I was a pro 25 years.

well im screwed,first off im in texas,like the north county of houston located in a real national forest,im surrounded by huge tree's its deep deep woods,so there is not even a breeze at all,and if there were from the south in the summer my garage door is facing east,it reaches over a hundred here but,,,ok the humidity here can be up to 90 something percent all year long,making summers so hot you melt just sitting in the shade,your shirt is soaking wet,i can take it off and literally ring it out,im not lying guys,so my yard and garage is a sauna.in the winter it gets super cold again because of the humidity.if i had a air conditioner/heater in my garage i would have to tear down a wall to build a door to walk in & out so my air wont escape and a hole in the wall for a window and window unit.so this is pretty much out of the question.because if i dont add a door then every time you need to walk outside i would have to open the big door letting all my cool air out.its sept 3rd and its so hot and humid omg,were actually cutting back alot of small tree's to try and get a breeze in the yard but im soaking wet sweating in the process.

I dunno how you have all the little gaps and places around your doors and windows n such and dont have a problem with mice or bugs n stuff.. hell i have damn near the whole thing air tight and still have all kinds of spiders (the big kind that like to go to where the noise is happening) and beetles .. all kinds of em.. yesterday i smashed 6 little black ground beetles and 4 big ole spiders and one little one.. today i had ants come in trying to eat the ones i smashed yesterday... if i dont keep it sprayed every season it gets worse..

From your silver insulation installed in trusses, I can say , you are not a roofer. Think about condensation , moisture building on bottom of plywood and life of your roof shingles
@DoItYourselfDad
@DoItYourselfDad Жыл бұрын
I can tell you aren't either if your calling radiant barrier "silver insulation". When installing this stuff you vent it at the top and bottom to combat moisture. This stiff is very common.
