Talk about an ultimate bar band! I have fond memories of going to Hedgen’s Bar in Buckhead in Atlanta on Saturday nights in the mid 80’s where they regularly played. What a party! By the way, they were originally going to call themselves the Satellites but a British group already claimed that name hence the Georgia part was added. This song was their big hit but there were many other rockers such as “Battleship Chains,” “Railroad Steel,” “Sheila,” “ “The Myth of Love,” “Hippy Hippy Shake,” “Bring Down the Hammer,” and a great version of Joe South’s “ The Games People Play.” Rock on!

@@taradevine6026 I've seen both, though not together. The Scorchers were by far my favorite of the two shows, but they both put on a good show. But Jason with his rhinestone suit and skinny six foot-plus-whatever gangly body was just a dynamo. He came out and body surfed with the crowd, just a great showman. The Satellites just couldn't compare to that show.

This song and "Black Betty" by Ram Jam have the best videos that go with their songs. For Black Betty they are all standing out in somebody's grandma's back yard jamming their hearts out. This one, the Georgia Satellites are set up on a flat bed 18 wheeler going down the road jamming it out. Check 'em out if you haven't yet. [Okay I had to go back and rewatch their video for nostalgia's sake and I need to add that they're NOT on the flatbed trailer of an 18 wheeler, but in the back of a truck, jamming away, and end up at Grandma's place where a country wedding is set up. No joke, CHECK IT OUT!

Okay guys. I have played this song about 1,000 times in our cover band.A few years ago, we went to Nashville to spend a few days in a great studio recording some of our favorite songs. This was one of them. We are running through it before recording the basic tracks and somebody started singing in my headphones. The ending kind of fell apart and I walked out and asked the drummer what happened. He said, "Somebody started singing and screwed it up!" Our bass player, who is a Nashville pro, said, "He can't screw it up. He wrote it!" In walks Dan Baird! He punked us! He is a fantastic guy. He told us we were doing what everybody does, playing it too fast. The studio staff set him up with a Princeton Reverb and he pulled a Telecaster out of a gig bag. He sat down and played it with us! The highlight of my music career. Let me tell you, there has never been a single time, in a bar, a party, anywhere we every played this, that people didn't get up and dance and sing along. I got up with a college band at a packed bar a couple of years ago and did this and the kids went nuts. I asked Dan about this. He said that a few years ago, he had come to grips with the fact that he had written a bar classic. Thanks for doing this one!

For straight ahead R&R, there is a ton of material of course. For a slightly modern twist on the genre, try Ring of Fire by Social Distortion, Blues from a Gun by The Jesus and Mary Chain, A Good Idea by Sugar, Disconnected by Face To Face, Mistaken by Save Ferris, Soulmate by No Use For A Name, and some of the Cult's stuff, among many, many others.

Usually I can't stand that vocal "pitch break", but Dan Baird makes it enjoyable. For me in the 90s, Alanis Morrisette and Delores O'Riordon (RIP, of The Cranberries) were unlistenable. No offense intended to fans. I still can't listen to "Lovesick Blues" by Hank Williams or most of Wilf Carter's records for same reasons.
