As a Bucurestean I dont recommend ending a trip here but rather start it here. From bustling night life to beautiful scenery in transilvania to warm and blue waters of the sea side. Bucharest is mainly a business center and a party town.

in brief, Vlad Tepes or Vlad the Impaler was a legend in Romania as he protected Europe and Tara Romaneasca from Ottoman/Muslim invasion. While his methods were indeed scary and cruel, if it wasn't for him and a few like him, perhaps Europe would have looked a bit different economically, religiously and culturally than it does today
@LevisH21
@LevisH21 Ай бұрын
Vlad Tepes was a normal ruler by the standards of the past. everyone was cruel and tyrannical. I don't blame him for what he did. Romania being Christian instead of Islamic is much better. under Islam, having freedom to think and equal rights for women or other religious groups is extremely prohibited or taboo. just look at how the Taliban or Iran is treating women. pretty damn barbaric culture. stuck in 7th century. not all Islamic countries are the same of course. mayn of the rich Gulf countries are in some sense much more open but still not equal. also the only reason why these oil rich Gulf countries are more open is because they are rich and can afford themselves to be ope minded. of the Gulf states didn't have oil money, they would be no different to a fundamentalist theocratic regime like Iran. and still Saudi Arabia is a Gulf country and extremely theocratic. at least Saudi Arabia isn't into creating chaos in the Middle East, unlike Iran that sponsors terrorists like Hezbollah or the Houtis in Yemen. the Middle East is like the TV show Game Of Thrones. lots of fundamentalists that play dangerous games and kill in the name of religious sectarianism. and Islam is a war and conquest based cult. very different to Christianity in which Jesus is kinda considered a hippie peace loving guru by secular left leaning white people in America. making Jesus into some kind of Buddha figure which is extremely condescending. in America and Western Europe Christianity has become a joke. having gay marriage inside a church is beyond ridiculous. I don't have a problem against gay people but to insist having gay marriage in the church is against everything Christianity stands for. in the West, certain "Protestant" denominations are anything but Christian. they only use the image of Jesus to push left wing politics. luckily Eastern European countries are sane and not suicidal with mass migration either.

1. Tourism is good for the economy but it can also bring problems, we don't want to be visited by certain people who can create problems, western europeans knows better 2. In August is the most beautiful to visit Sighisoara, there are festivals with people dressed from the old times, instruments of torture are provided so you can take pictures and stuff like this, it's incredible. It is also very beautiful in December with the snow and the specific holiday decorations. 3. That lady is like probably 99% of our grandmothers, if you don't eat something when you visit them, you will be in trouble 4. Loved your attention to detail. Most Transylvanian cemeteries are like that. Some of the best peaceful parks to spend time in. I also had a great teenage time, in a peaceful north Transylvanian park like cemetery. Best for learning, preparing for exams! As for the past, good to know that there was a time when indigenous Romanian majority was not even allowed to enter towns.. Or were forced to become one of the 3 privileged Transylvanian ethnic groups ( Hungarians, Saxons, Szeklers) and abandon Orthodox Christian faith, in order to keep estates and nobility titles. Like the Romanian houses of Corvin aka Hunyad, turning Hungarian in late 14 early 15 century or the house of Dragos, becoming the Saxon/Hungarian house of Dragfy. That's why you wont find many Romanian names in such Saxon or Hungarian cemeteries, even though many of those people were mostly Romanian or Slavic people in the past. In Transylvania there are entire former Croatian, Czech, Slovak settlements, fully Hungarian today, or most Szekler towns were Moldovan Romanian miners and wood cutters in the past, assimilated during the Austrian - Hungarian times. Resulting in paradox towns like Remetea or Vlahitza, which means 'the Romanians' and "little Romanian town", fully Romanian in the past, are fully Szeklers today. So that's why.

I think cities in Western parts of Romania like Oradea are worth visiting. Oradea is very modern looking because of recent renovations in the city center and having much better funded local government. also local people care about the city and insist politicians to take care of the city, unlike other parts of Romania. the problem in Romania is how much corruption there is in Eastern regions of the country. not all of them. for example the city of Iasi which is the 5th biggest in the country looks well funded and I think the politicians have renovated the city quite a lot. also lots of young people move to Iasi because of better schools and university. and job market. Romania is slowly urbanizing because young people wish to go to university and live in big cities. have careers that involves technology and the internet. this is the future. I hope Romania reaches the level of Austria, Estonia, Czech Republic in the next 20 years. by 2050 Eastern European countries will be on the same level as Western Europe, I hope.

Romania would already be a major travel destination if Ceausescu didnt destroy a majority of traditional romanian buildings and if our government actually tried restoring old buildings. Ceausescu did the worst stuff to our traditions. There was a big earthquake in Bucharest that destroyed a majority of very beautiful historic buildings. For Ceausescu this was a good thing because he could have an excuse to not rebuild them and build communist blocks in their place. The worst thing he did by far was destroying entire neighbourhoods for his massive building which is half empty. Romania's traditions suffered a lot recently. Whats sad is that Romania has so many beautiful traditions and architecture but sadly all there is left is just ugly communist blocks. And otherwise there are beautiful towns and castles that werent even built by Romanians.

Why? Because of Erdély (Transylvania), which is basically historical Hungary (has been a part of Hungary for 1000 years until the Entent powers forcefully gave it to the Vlachs/today Romanians) and whatever cultural heritage you find there is Hungarian and Saxon (settlers invited by medieval Hungarian king Bela IV). Erdély still has very strong Hungarian cultural presence and while Romanians might show them as it was theirs, but all it's built heritage: castles, churches, tows, cities and traditional villages were built during the time of Hungarian Kingdom. The rest of today's Romania or rather the real Romania east and south of the Carpathians is ... well go there, see it for yourself and you'll know it.

My dear, no one disputes that Hungarians and Saxons founded most of the cities in Transylvania! I am familiar with this subject. So I know that over the course of Time, certain Hungarian historians have developed a number of theories regarding the origin of Romanians to justify Hungarian hegemony in Transylvania. Such as the "empty space theory" - when the Hungarians came from Asia to Europe, Transylvania was an uninhabited territory! This theory is rather comical. At that time, all of Europe was inhabited, including Northern Europe where environmental conditions are harsher. Or that some Hungarians claim other ineptitudes such as that ALL the population of Dacia retreated south of the Danube with Roman legions to protect the external borders of the Roman Empire. And then, the Romanians went back, but what to see, the Hungarians occupied their territory while they were absent or that Romanians came from Albania and settled in the Carpathian-Danubian-Pontic area. I also think you should debate with Bulgarians. When Hungarians came to Europe, all the territory of Romania, including Transylvania, was integrated into the Bulgarian Empire, even this territory was predominantly inhabited by Romanians.

My favorite is when the King of Hungary sent them to colonize Romania with a Letter from the King...why would they need a Letter if it was their own back yard? Whom were they presenting the Letter to? To the Trees?

@@valentinzota8835 You are not too big on law and legislation, are you? Why would you, your state is one of the newest ones in Europe and was constructed by the contemporary powers of Europe and not by you, while Hungary has a 1000 years advantage in the building and managing its own state founded by its own people and in the practice of law. That teerritory of the country had been depopulated by the bloody Tatar (Mongol) invasion, so king Béla IV invited in settlers (Saxons) and gave that land to them. The letter was a legislatory move from the king which by he granted the Saxons rights to settle there, own land there and trade.

@@GimmeDaGun Bro...we were fighting the Roman Empire 1000 years before Hungary ever existed...the only law you know is the law of lawlessness...you have been deceived by your teachers that LIE about your history by obscuring the truth, we were first a country in the 1600 when Michael the Brave first united the 3 provinces by election and your people assainated him. But you don't know that history because you have been lied to.

@@GimmeDaGun my previous rebuttal was deleted, so I'm giving it another shot: go look for Michael the Brave, he united Romania first in the 1600, but your rulers decided he was inconvenient, so ...they don't teach you that in school.
