Have a good work ethics goes along way in any field. It’s one thing if someone doesn’t know how to do something but they give it their all and fail versus someone who did not even try. Seeing some of the amazing things that were built by our great ancestors With the limited tools really makes me wonder that they must have been a different breed back then. But yes always try your best. The customer remember stuff like this and same with your employer. I remember when I was 16 years old stocking shelves at a local supermarket in winter. The one manager would always buy me lunch and I asked him one day how come you only buy me lunch and nobody else and he replied with “You’re the only one that does anything around here and smiled at me” It definitely made me feel good. Had a question involving Liebert. The Variable speed motor that works with the P66 on the condensers that always seem to go bad. It seems like a bad design using heat from the condenser to cool it, then if not running at fully speed the amps go beyond RLA. Any thoughts why they used this for many years?

hey, good service call albeit a rudimentary one. I like your plan to use3 sprinkler to get the through the night, but I see they wanted to go the expensive rout. Hey, I look at it like this, when your making time and half that's the only time you're really making what your worth, Regular time is just to pay the bills and wife. My company is taking on server farm service, and I'm taking notes as I don't usually work on Liebert units, I think the solution is to get a big box fan with a multi tap motor. set it on top to get them by. I think per policy any critical system should have parts on site or be willing to pay the premium to get supply house open over nights or weekends.
@hvacexplained9341
@hvacexplained9341 3 жыл бұрын
I have used a Garden hose nozzle aimed at a coil quite a few times if I am running out to pick up a condenser fan motor on some equipment. This will maintain the head pressure just enough to keep it running while I grab that new motor. I honestly was thinking about putting a box fan possibly on top but I don’t think it will pull hard enough with those small motors. Also hearing Pennsylvania we get a lot of rain randomly sometimes so that found may not hold up overnight but I like the idea though. Yes time and a half is always good I take a good bit of on call for the extra money. But I tell the apprentices the more service calls you take the sharper he will get…. Liebert units are very reliable it’s definitely worth taking a class factory trained from them. I can possibly email you some literature from a local rep in my area they are very good. Good luck with that server farm there’s many different type of the Lieberts out there for different applications. Always have spare parts on site this customer I am assuming will from now on especially since this Covid fiasco has caused such a problem with getting parts. Have a great day and thank you for commenting.

Also the rain shield comes with them but yes I will make sure I point that out in the future. I did go to use a sprinkler and it was so hot out it would run roughly 10 minutes before tripping out so it was almost working good enough. 4:40 what would be the downside of not having a LLSV in a system like this that (assumingly) has a long line set?
@hvacexplained9341
@hvacexplained9341 Жыл бұрын
Yeah Jackson your on the right track. By not having it, you could shorten your lifespan of the compressor. Always follow manufacture specifications. It will help take the load off the compressor on startup. Also to protect the compressor from “Liquid Migration” starting up full of liquid. Usually a Crank Case heater prevents this. I don’t see them too much on Residential Systems, but if there is a long line set or if the air handler is located in somebody’s attic and the condensers on the ground then yes they do get used. I mostly do Commercial/Industrial, HVAC. I try to steer away from Residential. Lol. Have a great day. Hopefully that helped you out a little bit.

I dont know what the big rush was on getting that up. It couldnt have been that important. Any and all vital air conditioning has redundancy times two as a miminimum or it can wait. We had a customer that had a complete set of redundantant Lieberts, through the floor, and then also a Catapillar generator that ran on both diesel and natu4al gas, for power outages. and for a backup again it had a Hoshizaki ammonia absorber the size of a grain silo. If they dont have at least two portable coolers, of their own, the management is irresponsible and should be replaced. Its been said, Jack Welch (the GE CEO) fired the bottom ten percent of his employees every year. Only top notch guys could work there, stayin on your toes, top of your game.

This facility does have more than enough cooling but the problem is the layout of the units verse the servers. I really wish I could show the full layout but I don’t want to get anybody in trouble. They will be having a company come in to install a containment system to allow the servers to have their own hot/cold Aisle in a few weeks. This will allow one of the units to be back up and let everything work a lot more Efficiently. But yes it does amaze me when there isn’t any extra back up for some of these rooms. This room in particular has an 8 to 10° temperature difference from one side of the room to the other. That is one reason why there is a blower fan in the center of the floor to transfer that air a little bit better. There’s only so much room in a work van but I do like that idea. I do carry a spare condensate pump in my vehicle because that’s pretty common to go bad in the middle of the night and takes up such a small space. There’s nothing wrong with the customer having spare components on site for their facility. The data centers i deal with usually stock spare parts for emergency repairs .
@bohanger6315
@bohanger6315 3 жыл бұрын
We do a ton of Liebert work and most well engineered rooms have 100% redundancy in regard to cooling capacity. Rotation to keep runtime even. Air distribution might not be ideal but they can get by for awhile. I think the argument of customers stocking spare parts is kind of silly, if a big Copeland semi herm is bad, would we expect the customer to stock that as well? Liebert has local reps with part stocking requirements so normally this would be no big deal outside of the covid shortages he talked about. If the factory isn't shipping them out, not much you can do except get the hose with a single fan condenser.
@hvacexplained9341

@@bohanger6315 : yes, Bo. A majority of the places also have redundancy the problem with this facility was they are not equipped at this time with a separate hot / cold Aisle. There’s more than enough tonnage of cooling to cool the room if they use that containment system but at this time they do not have it so therefore it’s struggles to maintain temp and it scares me. That equipment looks fairly new. The oil trap on the vapor line tells me you’re a couple stories up or so. Was that the original motor on the RT? Or a replacement (anti seize on motor shaft). Do you have any ideas about mode of failure or maybe just a bad apple in the lot? I understand the bearings failed, but why? Bad cap, blade out of balance, current issue, maybe high wind or Gremlins did it. I know in a server room that equip can run all year or most of it.
@hvacexplained9341
@hvacexplained9341 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not exactly sure of the age of the unit I never really paid much attention. That definitely was a replacement motor seeing that anti-seize on there I know the previous technician who retired who used to take care of it. Believe me that guy was like Sherlock Holmes when he would investigate a problem with a piece of equipment. You are correct sir, the unit is a couple stories up. The oil trap it’s always a good idea to use if it’s above 20 feet elevation from the compressor to the condenser. Anytime I pipe in a new air-conditioning system residential I always make sure I put in traps because that’s the last thing I want is a call back due to oil failure. Those motors are very common to go bad with the bearings then fail. I can’t tell you how many I have changed over the years. Same situation just different location. They do have an upgrade for these I forget with that all includes other than a total different motor set up but apparently they haven’t had a motor go bad yet. I have to get the name of it and I will get back to you and a couple other people. I’m all about reliability. I think I’ve only seen one bad capacitor on these particular type of units do you think I typically keep the other one as a spare on site. I have seen different types of units condenser fans go bad because of wind. One in particular up in Erie PA real close to the lakes with all the high winds. I’ll find out what that motor is on Monday and I’ll let you and a few other people know what the upgrade is. Have a great day thank you for your comment and stay safe.

I can’t tell you how many of those motors I’ve changed but Liebert has an option where you can put in I believe it’s a VRF motor to replace that standard one that fails constantly.

Special motors are always required for speed control applications. They don’t lubricate correctly at low speed. It’s not the control, it’s the motor they use. Just like VFD has to have a VFD rated motor. I think the manufacturer knows this, but are two cheap to provide the correct motor. Back in my day, I guess liebert was providing the proper motor as standard, because I don’t remember having a lot of failures
