Honestly, I breathed a sigh of relief for you both. I don't know how you kept up with all of that! At least you can say you tried it. You will always have your memories and videos to look back on. I started watching after I caught you on one of those "Tiny Home" tour videos. My favourite moment from the Surf Shack was the New Years Day polar plunge. I just went back and watched it again. It's still funny! Seems like a smart decision to sell now. Maybe not an easy decision, but smart. Better to sell now than before. If you sold it when you got your new house, you would have always wondered if you should have kept it as a rental. Now you tried it - it worked - great success - then you sold at a good price while you were still winning. It's a good result and gives you good closure. Well played Joneses!

You absolutely made the right choice! Plus, you tried it first so you know exactly what it was like. That’s the best way to make a decision-so you won’t be questioning yourself the whole time had you sold it right away. Running an Airbnb or bed and breakfast always sounds amazing-and even when people are prepared for the work that goes into it-you’re never really prepared for all the work that goes into it. So you guys can now know you made the right choice for sure! I’m really happy for you and all the free time you’re going to have on your hands to do things that you really want to do, more so than those things you always need to do. My wife started a "Scary Bear Attack" (SBA) for me. I requested she put up one if your vids. She looked at me and said. I picked the SBA for you, thought you would like it. Well I did. Story was from a true story of 1916 where a mule train with supply and oats. A blk bear killed the mule train guy. His buddies set up a trap with dynamite and a long fuze..Fuze... B○○m! No more bear. My wife Hates the water! I love it!! I grew up racing Bmx and traveling the Country as a kid racing and living in my parents Motorhome. I finally got her camping and we have a permanent site at the Campground with our Travel Trailer! Aww wish we could have had the chance to host you. That is definitely the bummer side of this bittersweet sale. 💙 There is only 1 other floating cabin we know of that rents out on this lake. It’s not in our harbor but we’ve been there and it’s super cute. It’s on VRBO & books up pretty far in advance so check it out soon for next year! No single best way to find these for sale… sometimes they’re on facebook marketplace around here, sometimes just word of mouth. maybe calling the marinas on this lake periodically and asking if they know if anyone in their harbor that’s looking to sell!

Sounds like you just realized how lucrative building those out can be. Buy and rent it out for a year and then sell for 2-3x what it cost you. Do that every few years and youre golden

Floating Homes, I expect the price to increase to being unrealistic and nic named Billionaire's Row. We bought a home on land at Fontana near a boat launch,will move in soon. Myself I prefer powered water craft instead . You Had a nice thing going on but sadly all things come to end. I wish you both the best of blessings.

It can definitely be tricky! We searched for 2 yrs for our first, and that was while we were living 5 min down the road. 😮 That being said we’ll have one for sale sometime around or soon after the new year! The one we’re renovating right now.

Really could not tell you even a general range without knowing the location and condition of the house! very much like with normal real estate. on our lake a house this size that is newly renovated and has new floats like this one could probably sell in the $125k-$175k range. that would likely be the cheapest you’d find it on any body of water though, these are triple or more the price most other places

Why not just set it up as a long term rental? That would still generate moderate income... Without the strain on your time.... Or.... Let a land locked soul run the air bnb.. Amd let them take most of the profit... The you keep your asset, and enough. Money to cover upkeep/a little profit.... And I think you could rent it out at 249 a night... So it would be a good full time job for a local willing to run it...

A long term rental would take us decades to earn what we earned in 1 day selling it haha. I think we’ll pass on that. & if we had anyone else in this area who would be able to run it, we would have hired them to run it. We’ve got a population of 7 full time residents in this town and we are 2 of them 😅 unfortunately it’s just not that simple or easy to find help with anything out here. which is ok! We chose to live in a very rural area and love it here. We’re happy we gave renting a shot & now we’ve been even more happy with our decision to sell. 🙂

NC. there are other folks that live here in the summer or come on weekends but they dont count as full time residents I guess. We are about 40 min away from nearest small town, 2 hrs from a city @@leslie6189

@@KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses I so had not pictured that!! Wow it must be so quiet and peaceful on weekdays during most of the year. Our family had property in the Shuswap, in the north Okanagan in BC, and I used to go up for summers... It was so peaceful on the last weekend of summer for our labour day weekend, when everybody was back to school shopping and had forgotten about the lake. I used to drink in the silence, and revel in the gentle ripples of water at the shore with no boats stirring waves.... The peacefulness just fed the soul... And the connection with the lake. I think that's what resonated for me the first time I saw one of your videos.. And I was hooked :) im so glad you got a good price on your beautiful creation of a house... The labour of love sure worked out financially... And it was such a gift for your viewers on your channel to be able to the stillness, presence, time and place of building/revamping that 1st home. I love your new home, but honestly really loved watching you re-working a diamond in the rough. I powerwatched/binge watched that whole process after just finding you guys online, and came away inspired by the creativity, dedication, authenticity and the genuineness /vulnerability of you and your husband to be willing to share your experience with the rest of us, such that we all got to come along for the ride. As a person with significant disabilities and overlapping health complications I miss my old self. I was crafty, creative, handy, and loved projects... So watching you guys build gave the freedom of getting out of my own head to experience a taste of my old life, as I would have been there swinging a hammer, holding a rope, or running supplies... Your videos often really portray the feeling and sense of being there.... So.... I will miss your house, even though I never actually set foot in it, your videos really made it feel like a home away from home. However, I so had pictured a town around the corner... Lol... I had that wrong :) anyways, I wish you all the luck on your new adventures in these next few chapters in life. And I hope someday you still might be able to connect with the other Jones I follow on you tube(incredible tiny homes) Newport Tennessee . Randy Jones of incredible tiny homes. We have bought one of his incrediboxes 8x20, and we have 3 lots at Incredible Tiny Homes. I have hopes of running 2 or 3 rentals... So I'm discouraged hearing it was so tough on you guys... I'm really hoping we will still be able to pull it off. We are off site, so operating costs might be as much as profits... But I don't want to have a regret of not trying. Anyways, Randy has a potential desire to create a tiny home on floats... Potentially as a production home. I sent him your videos and had hoped he would get some much needed R&R, and come check out your rental, and take some time with his dog Ace, to just soak in (pun intended) the gorgeous setting where you are, and let his creative juices flow on how he might create a float house, or a production float house.... And just unwind and unplug and enjoy your natural scenery. They are in Newport Tennessee.. I hope someday he might still connect... But if you were to reach out, I know he'd be keen to pick your brain about float houses, and your experience. They meet with folks by appointment on Thursdays if you ever were heading that way, do reach out. They're in Newport Tennessee... And he or his colleague Tom... Or even Lucas who runs the solar, he would be more than able to take down ideas, techniques, supply names/sources... He is a wealth of knowledge... Anyways hope they connect with you in some way... You dont EVER get a seller like your husband! I would buy from him in a heart beat if I currently wasnt full time RVing. I'm an angler and when I retire, my next move is the lake. Dont know if my teen daughter is down with that yet though...LOL.
