Woman Living in a Beautiful Floating Tiny House - Full Tour & How It Works

Tour this bright little floating home on a river in Portland, Oregon! It has a big deck surrounding it on two sides, and when you walk in through the bright yellow door, it's surprising how spacious it feels despite the small size. It has an open concept kitchen, living room and dining room with high ceilings and an amazing view on the river. And there's also a lovely bedroom with incredible wall-to-wall built-in closets for storage, a nook for a desk, and an ensuite bathroom with bright pops of colour.
This tiny float home is just 550 square feet (51 square meters) and was originally a small old float home in desperate need of a remodel. But when they opened up the walls, they realized they'd have to take it all the way down to the float and build new from there. In this video we get to see the before and after of the stunning renovation!
The float is made with logs and stringers, and additional flotation can be added as needed to balance out the weight of the boat, by adding foam blocks wrapped in plastic underneath.
Amy Sedgwick has been living here for 2 years, and she previously lived in 2 other float homes in Seattle and Portland. She sells float homes and she has written an ebook about float homes!

A houseboat has always been a dream for me, though I never lived anywhere where it would have been possible. So seeing this was just lovely. Amy has made herself some lovely floating homes, and now that the dream moves forward I hope she finds a beautiful life in Merida! Buena suerte!

I'd love to understand how utilities are setup and maintained - especially in freezing temperatures. And moisture/humidity - is there more issues with moisture (mold/mildew) in and around the home when it's floating?

Wow. Beautiful. By our UK standard, it is a very roomy house. We can make a one-bed property 37 Sqm (min requirement but we managed in the past do away with 28-30 Sqm. You are so blessed with such awesome big floating house for one person!!!

Just wanted to jump in to say that the price includes buying and owning the slip at the marina (some float home prices don’t include this which is why they are cheaper, but without slip ownership, they have to pay to rent the slip which can be expensive in a different way). Lovely home which is average size of a one bedroom home. Very doable. I live in Minnesota and my little home, though paid, is only worth about $200K. Coastal states have heavily inflated real estate prices so it’s beyond my ability to purchase. I can, however, admire from a distance. I’ve always thought living on the water in these homes would be quite romantic. Be safe in Mexico. I have a friend who owns a second home in Belize and she says the entire place is primarily English speaking and she’s never mentioned any problems. Not for me, but diversity makes the world go round.

I've been aware of floating homes in the PDX area for several years. It didn't occur to me until now that I'm unaware of floating homes further south on the Willamette. I live in a town on the river and I guarantee there aren't any floating homes on it.
