I think those Pinocchio shrimp at 5:25 are _Caridina gracilirostris_ -which is an appropriate specific name, meaning "thin-snouted", or "gracile rostrum" lol. I read that they’re a brackish species from Japan. But I guess many shrimp and crustaceans are "brackish", at certain points in their development?

@AquariumCoop there is a spot in this video where you are talking about a live barer that the body isn’t how you would like it to be. The sponge filter in the shot appears to be buried in the gravel. Is that just the camera angle, or is this a thing that can be done and still have effective filtration?

You need plant density and the plant to photosynthesize fast enough to maximize oxygen. You won't see pearling until the water has hit super saturation. This also needs enough light and nutrients in each tank to achieve it. Not always the easiest thing to balance when you have a lot of systems all going at once and aren't just flooding the water column with nutrients, injected co2 and lights.

Today, for the first time, my dwarf lilies from you pearled 🎉 I recently changed my lighting schedule to 8 hours off/ 3 hours on/4 hours off/ 3 hours on/3 hours off/3 hours on to keep the algae from coming back. The plants are definitely competing with the algae, and based on the number of plants pearling, I hope they will now be *outcompeting* the algae 😅

That story about the little turtles in Florida adapting to being smaller is BS. That particular species is called a “Stinkpot,” the smallest species of Musk turtles (there are many species.) They only grow to 4 - 5” max and should be offered a dry place (branch, rock) to crawl out and bask even if they seldom use it. There are certain states (like Florida) where turtles under 5” can be sold, it varies from state to state, every state has it’s own laws.
@The_Crucible7142 ай бұрын
I also find it strange that a businessman would waste time & effort breeding a turtle species he’s unable to sell, rather to simply “give them away(?)” His resources would be better utilized if he became involved in a “breed-to-release” program of an endemic, CITES-listed, endangered chelonian -of which there are many. Species such as Gopher Tortoises, Wood turtles, Blandings turtles, Alligator snapping turtles & Diamondback terrapins are all on the decline. Obtaining a “breed-to-release” license from the Turtle & Tortoise Conservancy or the local Fish & Game Dept isn’t difficult (I’ve done it.) Programs whose goal is to repopulate newly protected areas by reintroducing breeding colonies already exist and guidelines for species specific implementation are available.

Really wish he would remove coop from the branding since it isn't a coop.
@Lazy_Fish_Keeper3 ай бұрын
It's the registered name of the company, for over a decade. It's a recognized brand, and Cory has addressed why he selected the name **and** if he had known then what he knew 10 years later, he would have selected a different name. That being said, his program that rewards school aged kids for getting into the hobby and learning how to responsibly breed is very true to the cooperative concept he named his business for. I'm really glad he doesn't charge membership fees like the food co-op does, and doesn't exploit people like another co-op I was in.
@toriwilson69613 ай бұрын
I gently disagree with Cory and with Kaarataka because I think it • IS • a co-op. The way Cory focuses on local breeders, local clubs, improving the hobby, bringing in other experts, not just profits. In my opinion, this makes it very co-op-ish.
@Lazy_Fish_Keeper3 ай бұрын
@@toriwilson6961 I too think it is exactly what Cory envisioned: a co-op The reason he wished he'd named it differently, is after Edmonds started doing charter schools, people assumed it was an education co-op 😂 He's talked about it in a few videos. It's very much a co-operative aquarium store, focusing on sustainability, buy local, and supporting new breeders in the business. How many corporate stores tell people, "don't buy from us, unless you have no option to buy local"?

Very cool video! I don’t hardly watch KZbin any longer, because, almost all of it is for brand new fish keepers. I don’t find too many videos of people with experience, just shooting the bowl looking at fish and talking every day fish talk. Being blind, I can’t do live streams because I can’t follow Along, so I have to depend on videos as far as finding content that is more my level and speed and experience, and those things are very hard to find these days. Thanks again! Very cool.🐠🦯
