Question what's considered mid travel and long travel at what point does it switch? What are stock trxs and raptors considered?
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad7 ай бұрын
Stock is stock. Both TRX and Raptor are considered stock because they come from the factory. Mid travel is when you increase the width for more travel but keep the stock coilover stroke and the stock shock bucket. Long travel is when you go wider, and run longer shocks, at least 10in stroke, and cut off the stock shock bucket and replace it with a tower to support the longer shocks. Long travel kits also have the ability to run the shocks at a wider angle closer to the spindle allowing for better control. You cant do that with a stock shock bucket. Long travel also usually needs a brace over the engine to connect the 2 new shock towers. Hope that helps.
@ze_german29217 ай бұрын
When you do the front, what about the rear?
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad7 ай бұрын
The rear has a ton more options depending on how you want to use the truck. He has traditional options with a bed cage and Deavers, but all his kits are based on 18in stroke shocks. There is also option for sprung under, wider axles, fuel cell, custom bed racks and soon we will show you guys a linked options as part of the recon build that is about 2 months out from being done

@KeepItDirtyOffRoad I know it's $25k for front suspension and I was trying to add up the rest on the fly. 40" tires and spares and fitment, fiberglass front and rear, rear suspension, rear cage, fuel cell, lighting, bumpers, axel, drive lines, etc... at least $75k?
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad7 ай бұрын
@Alexander450R it does add up yes, but not that high no. It all depends on what you want. Not everyone needs a fuel cell. Not everyone needs the 11k rear end of a 2 peice drive shaft. Not everyone needs a $7k Marty Mcfly rack like I would want. So realistically if you just focus on suspension and fenders with 37s or 40s and be much, much lower

I remember we praised SVC for keeping inner tie rods factory in order to save the rack. What upgrades to the steering did they do on the silver scab of any? I built a 2003 screw cab back in the day with an HM kit and loved it. I currently have a Gen 2 Raptor and I’ve been on a Mojave run of yours 😉… great content btw
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad7 ай бұрын
Here the tie rods are replaced end to end and it’s required because of what the truck can do. The stock tie rods can’t take it. With a mid travel you limited by the stock shock bucket. So even with the extra travel, you’re still within what the stock tie rod joints can do, and they last longer and are easier to replace. With long travel you’re getting more up and down travel, and you have to replace the joints end to end. And if you get the geometry right, like HM has, the steering is tighter and it has little to no bump steer so the stock rack will last a bit longer. But eventually you’ll want a swing set kit to go faster. But the cost of those is through the roof
@cameronschilling-ti9ot7 ай бұрын
Yeah copy. I’m aware they have custom tie rods with heim rod ends on both inner and outer with an adapter that goes on the end of the rack. I was just hoping they had something you didn’t mention involving a rack upgrade. Again great content and you do a steller job explaining things for the newer crowd.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad7 ай бұрын
No option yet. I was hoping the new housing being used to reinforce the bronco racks could be used, but I’m told it won’t work. So electronic racks will require regular replacement every few years in offroad trucks or switching to swing set. Neither are cost effective unfortunately.
@markbeier38317 ай бұрын
HM’s geometry, has been dialed in throughout the years of racing to put the least amount of stress on the rack. Granted, running 40’s will add stress to it. The steering feels better than when it was stock.

How much are their other kits? They don't have pricing on their website.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad7 ай бұрын
He’s still building it all up, but the cost difference is the shock price between all 4 of the long travel kits. They all share the same geometry it’s mainly about how wide the kit is. They all get the same level of reinforcement and fabrication. Only difference is if they use 10in stroke or 12in stroke shocks. He will be releasing a mid travel option later this year that will be more affordable and can be bolted on with only minor welding. As soon as that kit is out, we will do a video on it.

Or you can buy a BOLT kit from Blitz, add some reinforcements yourself and install everything yourself and save about 10-15k. 1” of extra travel isn’t worth that much to me. Although I love Kevin’s products the price isn’t close as you say. Kevin’s kit requires WAY more install work since the buckets and cage is involved. Apples to oranges…
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad6 ай бұрын
Blitz has the lowest install price in the industry. I still don’t know how they do it. But if you do similar reinforcement you going to be closer in price. Not exactly because you’re not chopping off the shock bucket, but close. But it’s not just about suspension travel. The tuning options either a longer shock as well as being able to put them out farther out in the arm makes a huge difference for handling. Blitz also has a comparable long travel kit that is very impressive too. But that kit is way more expensive because it requires a full engine cage. We’ve featured that kit too and it was beyond impressive

I totally agree with you there. I started on a budget and wheel how you can. What I don’t like is when someone takes a mid travel kit and calls it long travel. That’s a trend growing in the industry. Because it’s tricking customers and since they are new, they don’t know any better.

But why would you want to do that? You could easily loose the tuning you just set and that’s extra work everytime you go from off-roading to towing.
@Shabobidhuffy2 ай бұрын
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad the solution really is to have two different trucks one for towing and one for beating. Alternatively, you can have maybe like an airbag set up to where you only install the airbag or inflate when towing giving you the spring rate you need. One things for sure , leaf under is the only way to go for maximum up travel and generally not having a shitty ass ride, off-road or on road. I don’t know why people stay leaf over, so stupid just pure ignorance. like hello, you can have the same amount of up travel while not being donkey high stink bug.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad2 ай бұрын
Yeah, 2 trucks would be my choice. Towing air bags will just get ripped up. But for sprung under, it’s not for everyone. You can’t carry much weight with a sprung under truck. Had this same conversation with Kevin at HM and for higher loads sprung over is the only option to carry any kind of weight. You also get a bit more clearance in the rocks. Sprung under is for the dedicated toy that won’t have much weight and primary does deserts only.

And all the plating and reinforcement, and the bump stop, engine brace, all the stuff included with this kit is optional or not available everywhere else and costs more in some shops because of the labor involved and to some shops, it’s custom work so they have to develop it or just say no. Also man, how is this a promotion? This is me geeking out again on HM work. Just like I did 2 years ago on the elite pre-runner build.
