If you are scared to leave the states then you will never fully understand the world we live in. We love traveling to other countries and have been in Mexico three times. The first two times we flew and the last time we drove. Driving into Mexico was an experience like none other. We found the people warm, generous and caring. Loved it. Our next trip will be in our RV and likely in 2018. You guys rock! Love your videos, love your style, love your editing skills. Keep on, keepin on.

Yes...if you feel it's not right...move! Did that in Stockton California, where we where staying at the Walmart. My wife & I both had a 'gut feeling' that we where not feeling safe there (no other RV's in the lot either) so, at 11:00 PM at night, we decided to hit the road, and drove to the next rest area that allowed overnighters! Slept much better, even with the odd trucker and the noise they can make! Unsure if we'll ever go to Mexico, but I enjoyed this video, and hope to find more on the topic!

Your comments are spot on. I've travelled, and worked, in multiple countries including Mexico, Belize, Nicaragua, and the Philippines. Yes, I tend to be more vigilant, but the fun is when you build a relationship with folks you otherwise would have never met. Learn about their lifestyles, experience their points of view, and help them understand the really, reallies of American lives. Just as we receive a skewed perspective of their countries, they tend to also receive a skewed perspective of ours.

I really appreciate your comments, summary, and especially you taking the time to list your resources, links, and lessons learned which allows the viewer some kind of "index" of the information contained. We joined the Escapees and went to San Filipe last year with about 55 other campers! Crossed into Mexico through Mexicali and had a police escort through town. Our caravan was well over a mile long and all of us had a FRS walkie-talkie so we had great communication. We stayed at Victor's RV Park along the beach with full hookups, had a wonderful experience.

Yes, there are some unsafe areas, like in any other country, but as these friends say: If something happens in one area of Chicago, you must take care of that area, but if something happens in one area of Mexico, they say that Mexico is unsafe ! And yes, you can also call the "Angeles Verdes" (Green Angels), they help tourists on every road here. Welcome to Mexico !

This video is great! We teach mountaineering to kids and the rules are almost identical. Use the buddy system. Plan to be back to your shelter well before dark. If you get separated you STOP! *stop *think *observe *plan! Carry the right tools with you so you have them when you need them most. Generally we recommend Swedish fire steel, but leaf springs are good too. :) Great lessons for all ages.

Trish and Mark, I recently came across your videos which in my humble opinion they're very well put together, you guys have truly shown the side of my native Mexico most people would never see much less explore, I applaud the extensive research you must have done prior to crossing into the unknown, I was a Federal Highway Patrolman in the now disolved Policía Federal de Caminos for over six years and then switched to the Mexican version of US DEA, as you can imagine I've seen what most folks would only see during their worst nightmare or the latest Jason movie with a new chainsaw...there's no end to the extend the cartels would go to pursue their agenda so please be extremely cautious..trust no one !!

Given your extensive experience, what recommendations would you make for travelers driving around Mexico? What precautions do you recommend they take? I know a great many snow birds and expats who believe it's very safe in most of Mexico. My current information leads me to believe that your biggest safety issue in most of Mexico is driving at night due to unmarked topes, livestock on the highway and cars driving with no lights. Certain areas have human risks including risk of kidnapping. The information I have indicates that Tamaulipas between Ciudad Victoria and the border is high risk (kidnappings, murders, car hijacking), as is Hwy 199 between San Cristobal de las Casas and Palenque in Chiapas (road blocks demanding money). Some dangers from carjacking in Sonora/SInaloa at night. Are these concerns realistic or overblown? Are there other areas to avoid? My personal experience (only 6 visits totaling around 14 weeks) have all been positive and my mother, who lives in Mazatlan 5 months a year for 15 years has also never had a problem.

Yeah, that's a tough one. Seems like everyone is open to it for different reasons at different times. Pushing harder doesn't always help. If your family watches KZbin... that helps a lot. If they go before they are ready, it could be a disaster. It's pretty easy to get overwhelmed being fulltime. It's a great Q&A topic that Trish and I will start thinking about.

I love what you said about Chicago, Illinois, Midwest :) I've said the similar things about Mexico. Travel advisories condemn whole states in Mexico... quite a few in fact. Super ridiculous. I've been all over Mexico by bus or car... never robbed or hassled (except that one time with corrupt cops but the vast majority of cops I encountered were friendly and even sometimes fun).

Just for the record. Professional caravans should have a wagon master who leads and a tail gunner who brings up the rear. The tail gunner is supposed to watch out for stopped units and most of the time he/she is a mechanic. He calls the wagon master to inform them if someone breaks down and stays with the broken down unit to help.

We'll put and objectively spoken! We've travelled to and through Mexico for nearly 25years, 1-3 times per year, and the experience has been similar to yours. Just like any new country/city/or state you travel to, there are areas you should avoid so the onus is on each of us to do research or stick to touristy or open very public areas and avoid being out at night. Also thanks for the resources. We will try a similar route in a few years when we are empty nesters and have more time! For now we eagerly await to hear about your next Mexican adventure...

I drove thru Mexico down to Panama when I was just out of High School, when the civil War was getting started in El Salvador and the Civil War in Nicaragua was ending. Now I am a retired Cop. The reason I won't go to Mexico, but will go to some place like Chicago is because I can get disappeared down there without a trace, but in Chicago I have Rights and am (still) allowed to defend myself.

My hubby and I just went to Puerto Vallarta for the 1st time this month. We flew, but stayed in 2 different areas of the city. I never felt unsafe. We also met several couples that RV from Canada to Mexico. We want to go to bring our RV to Rocky Point. Have you been there?

I must say you make it all look so easy. How did you find your caravan group? How far in advance did you have to make a reservation at your final RV park? Did you stay at the same one the whole time? (I was drooling over this whole series, looked so awesome) Did you ever find out what they used on the laundry??

Thank you for posting this well thought out video. Just FYI the word is tope, not topo, in Mexico. Each country seems to have its own term for speed bumps. In some places they call them policia dormilon (sleeping policeman); and Paraguay they call them lomo de burro, (donkey’s back) which I’ve always found funny. Here in Peru they are call Rompemuelles (axle breakers), which seems about the most apt name for these crimes against drivers. I’m down here many times there are no reflectors or special paint or signs warning you that a speed bump Is lurking in the dark, lugubrious shadows of pavement

Excellent and helpful. Esply that last one got my attention about Americans not getting involved in Mexican issues when in their country. I appreciate that one bc it is so normal to be normally yourself and respond, even in another country! Thanks for the continual "ride." BTW, missing Phoenix as I lived there for some years and my last daughter was born there. Great place! Hey, do you ever get the feeling that things aren't happening just for the circle of your family anymore but also for your "newly extended family" ?? :) Happy Travels!

This one is in English, lol! I agree with traveling early in the day. Always try to travel on the toll roads, since they are monitored by federal authorities. Most of the times, when you get your "caseta" ticket, emergency phones and contact info are printed on the tickets for those roads in particular. Good advice on not trying to be heroes or interfere in "certain" situations, just move along, this is not Hollywood!

Glad it was in English. The people looking to RV to Mexico read the comments. Yes, it would have been good to mention that the toll roads are monitored by the military. Thanks for your comment as always.

No please! No! the last thing we need is a rv-ing "reality" show inventing stuff that would probably never happen or exist. You guys are doing great on your own & have a wonderful sense for vlogging, your videos are great! Now if say goodyear, michelin or any company wants to become a sponsor I see np there just read the fine print CAREFULY. cheers & may the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face. And may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars. :)

:) We're working with a few RV related companies next season. Stuff we REALLY want to share with everyone. Can't wait to install and share! I agree. We RV for the freedom and would only work with TV if we felt it was aligned with our purpose. 9 times out of 10... it's not a fit.

Great safety tips!!! My parents used to drive that same route when coming from Querétaro to Az, And they never had a problem either. Mexicans are very friendly and they are always happy to practice their English and be helpful !! I just have to say that In México they don't understand the point of driving an RV yet, because it's not common over there. Did you noticed? We are always looking forward to your new videos!!!! Thank you!!!

Another great video with terrific info. Have you posted more info about the baseball corn hole game? Would like to create them for our RV rally in Oct. also, love the backdrop (golf course)... Where is this? Curious since we are heading to Arizona in May to check out relocation cities from SF Bay Area...

My dad relocated from the Bay Area in the early 70's. SF is great. Tricia and I were engaged there... but AZ is unbeatable (if you have a plan for the summer). We're in Carefree, AZ. Not too far north of Pinnacle Peak, which you should hike when you're here. Phoenix is Meh, but Scottsdale and Carefree are amazing (keep in mind, we like to hike and mt. bike). Hit me up on fbook before you come. I'll see if we can post more on the corn hole baseball game.

Love all of you guys bubbly entusiasm. Makes watching the videos fun and interesting. Learning a bunch of good tips along the way, and ideas for our RV-plans. What type of drone are you guys using for the aerial shots? Seems to have great range and I assume you attach something like a GoPro to it? Looking forward to your next videos.

Thanks! Yes, we're having a great time and even more fun sharing the adventure. I have the DJI Phantom 3 Pro. It has about a mile range (to transmit the video back to my phone), but it has 12 satellites on it at all times. it comes with a 4k camera and gimbal built in. I paid about 1k. You can get Phantoms for 500 or 1,500 depending on the options.

I do appreciate your video. Confirming that considering all the headache, precautions, caravans, roads, language barriers, warnings, over and over again? Southern Az is about as good as Mexico. *LOL* Just not worth it. I'll stay in the US. Still love you guys. Stay Safe!!!

We are signed up to do the caravan with the La Penita group and are getting our reservations settled for next winter! Shirley sent us a link to your channel when we mentioned we are doing the crossing with our toddler. Thank you so much for posting the videos of your crossing and of the rv park and surrounding areas. I just want to skip Alaska and head to Mexico now! Fantastic videos.
