For the last 20 years of my work, I travelled every week. I felt I lived in hotels. Nice hotels, but still need to check in, lug your bags or get the bellhop. I can't tell you how many times I woke up and didn't remember what city I was in or why. Usually a look out the window cured that. I had a huge fear I'd wander out into the hallway thinking I was entering the bathroom. Thus the RV. My clothes in the locker, my food in the fridge, the same bed every night. Wonderful.

You guys have been such a big inspiration to me and my wife starting this journey ourselves. Unfortunately she passed suddenly on Wed. She was 39. We where just 3 weeks away from hitting the road. I can't think of a better way to celebrate her life than to continue this journey with our pups. It was both of our dream after all. And we worked to hard to get this far, it would feel like a waste! Thanks again for all the inspiration and helpful info! Its a bit scary to think of going it alone, but I like to think of it as an opportunity to write a beautiful ending to this tragedy!

Ebikes are so much fun whether you have a throttle (AKA motorcycle) or if you have a pedalec (you have pedal to get any assistance). I recommend the latter because you get some amazing exercise, no longer worry about hills and can cover dozens of miles quickly as needed. They are amazing scout vehicles for larger rigs.

I had the same issue with my 2.5" receiver and the 2" reducer sleeve on my 2019 F250. I ended up inserting plastic shims (purchased from Home Depot for a previous DIY project.... 1 on top near the opening of the receiver and 1 on the bottom rear...next to spare tire) and trimmed to length. This solved the wobble. I thought plastic shims would work better than wood, since there would be very little compression. I have not noticed any side-to-side wobble. So problem solved for now.

Spent an entire winter as well, Snowmobile Heaven!!! Did you know? The school is K-12 and has roughly 75-100 students total! When we upgraded from an F150 to our 250 we tried our old dropout but were never happy with the spacer. We finally swapped our ball mount onto a 2.5" drop (using the original ball mount) and it has been wonderful! It took a good bit of research to find the exact drop we needed and still be able to open the tailgate, but finally got if from eTrailer. Just getting rid of the little bit of slop has made towing our AS much more stable ( I should know since I do all the driving with the trailer! LOL). Safe travels!

Regarding your receiver hitch handles: Perhaps wrap electrical tape on the all thread to help keep the grips on the all thread. Make sure it is a tight fit. When installing the grips: Hair spray liberally applied to the inside of the grips. Shove the grips on quickly, twisting cw/ccw. After the grips are installed, the hair spray will evaporate and leave the grips very well secured. This is done in the cycling world routinely to add grips to handlebars.

If you want to observe your hitch from your driver's seat while driving forward, on Sync you can set the backup camera to delay off. With this enabled, shift to reverse, then you can shift to drive and drive forward under 5MPH and your backup camera stays on. I use this when I've unhooked the trailer and I'm about to pull my truck forward. Simply put the truck in reverse to activate the camera, then shift to drive and slowly pull forward while the camera remains activated.

Being a traveler by trade, none of the switch overs bother me much. But that said, I would much rather be in my RV than in a hotel. There’s something to be said for being in your own space when I’m other locations.

Unless you plan on hauling a 20 thousand lb backhoe where you would need a two and one half inch receiver with a pinto hook, which you probably won't, why don't you get the two inch spot welded on each side. Then if you do need too haul that said backhoe, you can have the tac or spot welds cut off. That will keep your two inch from rattling.

My 2 cents-worth on slack in the hitch. Drill and tap the hitch for a 1/2" thread bolt. Drill a 9/16" hole in the sleeve adapter so it will be lined up with the drilled & tapped hole. Using a section of all-thread long enough to be double-nutted, tighten it up to the receiver, then tighten the nuts up to keep it snug. This will allow a future owner of the truck to be able to use the 2.5" hitch capability without having to undo the welds you plan to use.

Glad you guys are having fun, you all seem well suited for this life style, how long do you think you will continue? I like seeing this great country, did a fair amount on two wheels, get recharged and than home sweet home. I retired from the Army after 21 years. and then another 20 years with the state police, While working for the state police i bought a small 30 acre pine farm, have lived here for about 30 years. So for the past 30 years i have really enjoyed the privacy and quiet and doing everything from golf, to shooting, hiking and running the trails that I've cut thru the farm. The KZbin video's I've seen show that many of the popular camp ground look like Trailer Parks, i couldn't deal very well with that. So that is a big negative for me, couldn't give this up for that, i don't mind meeting new people but i really don't want to bunk next to them, it just seems too close. I'm probably very spoiled from being out here in the country with only cows and horses for neighbors, i don't think this would be a good fit for me, maybe 30 years ago, lol. Unbelievable to me we got FIOS last year, 1 Gig service, off the grid but on the grid. Boon dogging (sp)? would probably be better fit, but I've spent many a night in lean two's, pup tents, no tents and having to make my supplies last so I'm not really up for that either, i think the true RV life passed me by. Anyway your video's as well as other's that i have watched have been informative and interesting and i know you provide a great service to those contemplating RVing, and those that are currently living the life. All the best, you have a nice family, and i know experiencing the Grand Canyon is better than reading about it, hope all continues to go well. God Bless. Safe travels.

Steve I think you're shackles on your receiver that you hook your chains too are probably undersized for the trailer weight. I use 5/8 galvanized shackles that are rated to 3.5 tons each on my 2019 F350. They are the largest I can find that fit through the receiver slots but still may undersized for your trailer weight. Install them upside down with the bolt going through the shackle and the receiver slots.

Just some more food for thought. E-Trailer makes a 2.5 inch shank and distribution hitch system. That might take care of most of the movement your getting in your hitch system as well as offering much more strength. Of course the tolerances can't be too tight or you would probably run into problems getting the thing apart. Other companies may offer the systems in aluminum so the whole family can easily install the hitch. Hope this info helps you as much as some of your earlier info has helped me.

I had the wobbling issue with the same Kuat bike rack on my F250. Got a u-bolt designed for that. It is similar to a u-bolt that you can buy at a hardware store but heavier duty and works well. Got it at a local trailer and hitch store and they were familiar with the issue with the inner sleeve. Make sure it is large enough to go over the larger hitch. I take my bikes between Texas and New Mexico and it works great.

The bronoc is nice but its not a real bronco its more of a bronco 3 as its more related to the bronco 2 as that was also on the ranger platform. Plus the super duty will make the new bronco look like a child's little trike. Brute force... now for the jeep wrangler with a hallcat engine

I love Mackinaw! A friend of our family inherited a very old house up there (one of the original houses on the island) and we used to go there for 1-2 nights every summer. I always rented a horse at Cindy’s riding stable every time. We even watched fireworks and big ship’s going thru from the porch at the fort for Michigan’s Birthday almost 30 years ago. That was awesome.

It’s so fun watching you guys explore the beautiful state I call home! If you guys are coming down to southeastern Michigan, I definitely recommend checking out The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village - you guys really seem to enjoy history (or at least it looked like it in some of your previous videos) and this place is amazing!

You can add set screws to your hitch that will stabilize the sleeve. Abom Adventures (machinist with Abom79 channel) has some videos adding a bike rack to the back of his camper that include his process for adding the set screws.

I've seen them, but looking for something more elegant. I think I'm going to weld the reducer in place as this truck will never need the larger receiver.

@@KeepYourDaydream I actually made some shims out of stainless steel stock for my hitch. One for up and down, one for side to side. The side to side has a hole drilled in it so the hitch pin holds it in place. The up and down shim has a 90 degree bend in it to hold it in place and provide a "tab" to hold onto. Works great, cheap to make.

Can’t you drill a hole in top of receiver weld a nut on top of hole and use a bolt to hold the sleeve? Seems like I have seen this setup on the back of RV trailer for holding spare tire bracket

Use metal tie wire for the grips like how dirt bike rides do when the grip glue isn't doing it. Simply loop it around and use linesmen plyers to twist tighten/snip.

We couldn't agree more with you on the RV to hotel comparison. In my corporate career I spent literally thousands of nights in hotels and nothing on this earth makes me feel like I've gotten so little for my money than staying in a hotel. I would often arrive mid to late evening, maybe grab a bite to eat and then go to bed, only to be on the road early the next morning. Spending $90 to $125 just to sleep in a bed always seemed like such a rip off. I rarely found a hotel bed as comfortable as the ones we've put in our campers. My hotel room horror stories are far worse than my RV horror stories. Our first year of retirement travel we drove coast to coast through 16 states visiting 8 National Parks and seeing friends and families along the way. We drove an efficient Honda Accord but spent nights in hotels and ate in restaurants. It cost us about $6500. We made a very similar trip in our first travel trailer a year later for less than half that :-)

My son and I always carry a small pocket knife. They come in handy. But having to give one up to fly has happened and fortunately the airport saved it to be picked up on the return trip.

Hitch stabilizer works great but wish someone would make one that was quick on/quick off without dragging out the toolbox. They are a pita when you have to, for example, put on and take off a bike rack frequently. Guys, GREAT video.

Use plastic wedges and 3m two sided tape on that hitch to make it fit tight. I used plastic wedges from homedepot that I used to install floating floors to space off the wall. Seems to work well. But I do think they make rubber wedges for that.

We absolutely love Mackinac Island. We have been going almost yearly. The last two years we have flown our C-TR182 RG up to the island. Taking the ferry is one thing, but landing at the airport takes it to a whole new level. We were just there with the plane 4-6 Oct 20. Beautiful weather and the fall colors from up above and on the ground were spectacular. I would agree with you that Mackinac can be done in 1-2 days. As many times as Misty and I have been; we have decided that October is the best month to go. The island is transitioning into hibernation. Not nearly as many tourists, yet most business', restaurants, and stores are all still open. The temps are nice and cool, and for us that frequent the island often. It's the best time to do those 1-2 day trips to get our island fix. If you really want to experience solitude. Go in the dead of winter. Catch a flight over with Great Lakes Air and stay in a condo or one of 2 places that stays open year round. Granted 98% of everything is closed but there are some neat things to enjoy if you research things to do there in the winter. Cheers! Great episode.

New subscriber here. Love your channel. We own a class A diesel pusher, and yes; what you tow can make all the difference what you can carry when you leave the rig. Ideally we’d flat tow a 4x4 pickup truck, but our current flat tow vehicle is a Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel 4x4. It works well for us, especially because with its air suspension we can lower the vehicle so our 74 lbs rescue dog can more easily board the Jeep.

If you think the brakes aren't working as well as they should on the RV, get up to 40-50mph and use the brake controller to get the trailer to slow down the whole rig almost to a stop. Do that 2-3 times... The brake linings literally may not have yet fully bedded in and need to be heated up real good.
