Former RV Technician here. Fun fact: If you don't have enough storage, make more! The "maintenance panels" that are held on with screws under the fridge or stove or sinks actually have a lot more space in them. If you don't mind setting stuff next to pipes or circuit boards, doing this will open up more storage options.
@KeepYourDaydream7 жыл бұрын
Great tip. We just discovered that yesterday. An entire area below the sink!

To help with space in the kitchen, swap out the faucet for one that uses one of the three holes. Use the remaining two holes to add built in hand soap and dish soap dispensers. Buy a butcher block cutting board add it to the end of the counter as a flip up countertop extension. Place your trash can under the flip up extension to free up under sink space. In the bathroom you can add hotel style towel rack. Just make sure to mount them to the studs on an interior wall. You never want to put any holes in the exterior walls. They are vacuum bonded with foam insulation and some have a special vapor barrier to ensure the interior stay comfortable. Any moisture seeping into these holes gets trapped and can cause issues over time. For even more space, use space saver bags. Even if you don't have a vacuum, you can still squeeze and roll most of the air out of bulky items like accent pillows, extra blankets and winter coats in these bags too allow more stuff to fit in the cabinet or storage space. When buying a new trailer or replacing tires always insist on Nitrogen filled tires. They are less likely to blow out due to heat from road friction or super hot road surfaces. Additionally make sure the tire is rated for your specific trailer and anticipated driving conditions. Not all trailer tires are equal. Spending more to upgrade your tires could save you thousands in repairs from a blowout. Many blowouts at freeway speeds do cause damage to the under side of the trailer. Depending on your floorplan, water lines, electrical, plumbing, and slide room motors/hydraulic lines could be torn apart by a blown tire. Trailers do not have wheel well liners or any protection from a blowout. Another possible cause for blow outs within the first few miles is being overloaded. The tires on trailers in this price point are not great to begin with. However, they should still last a few thousand miles in the first season. Granted, older tires with less miles are likely to blow out from dry rot if not stored and protected from environmental damage during the off season. Never use tires showing signs of rot or deterioration. These signs are cracking, bulging or bubbles in the sidewall or not holding air. Remember the sidewalls of the tire is what's carrying all the weight and absorbs all of the humps and bumps from the road. Our passenger vehicles have many components to our suspension to cope with the weight and bumps in the road. Most trailers are equipped with simple leaf springs. These leaf springs are designed to keep your trailer from going airborne when it hits potholes. It is the tires that do most of the work. Don't skimp when it comes to those seemingly insignificant tires. I hope this family sent their receipts in for reimbursement for the new tire and rim if it was damaged. Like everything else, the tires do have a warranty too. On the warranty side of things...... If you plan to go full-time, it's important to know only a few RVs are designed for and allow for full-time living while honoring the warranty. This is only important when purchasing an RV with a warranty. If the unit is not for full-time use and you file a warranty claim while living in the RV full-time the manufacturer may void the warranty completely. Full-time RVs are made to a higher standard in order to hold up to constant use. The voided warranty only applies to the RV manufacturer. Most, if not all, the appliances and other components with their own manufacturer warranties are still valid. Also not any modifications to any item being serviced under warranty must not be altered or taken apart by anyone other than the service individual authorized by the manufacturer. Do not ever attempt to repair any component under warranty. Even though it's not working, any sign of the component being tampered with could void the warranty. Thus leaving you with the repair bill. Once the sale is done, your relationship with the salesperson is over. Most don't live the RV lifestyle. And thus can't relate or even help when issues arise. However,li!e always, there are exceptions to the rule. On rare occasions you might get a sales individual who loves camping and/or RVing themselves or is someone who pride's themself on going above and beyond for their customers. This type of individual loves their job and will have ample product knowledge and experience. Which is what all of us want but most will never find. I still haven't found that magical, elusive, and desired sales person. Anywho..... back to the real topic of all your excellemt and creative solutions. Really great solutions. I don't know how you managed to prep and cook a meal in that closet size kitchen. It's small than most kitchenettes.😆. Cooking for two would be difficult. But cooking for five would be virtually impossible! Although, to be fair, a lot of meals are cooked outside during a typical camping trip. And to defend the manufacturer, this unit is not designed for full-time use for two, let alone five. To be honest, I don't know how the five of you, plus your golden managed so long in such a small trailer. It certainly makes me appreciate the tremendous space I have even more. Thank for sharing you tons and tricks. As well as sharing your journey! Cheers from Seattle... Oh and Happy Holidays. I think the Christmas tree will fit and look best on the roof. Wire those plastic ornaments on real good 😉

Best RV tour ever! Loved the movie out takes.. Especially the Jerk where he is going packing things... I laffed so hard! What a perfect analogy! Two tips I'm walking away with (thanks so much) The power strips with a USB! Of course, how brilliant. And the motion sensor lights in the over head cupboards... I too am short and can't see up in those upper cupboards in our Airstream, unless I get out the step stool, but sometimes it has to double as a step to get out of the trailer. Even if I installed a light up there I'd still have to "jump" up and switch on a light! Plus battery powered! Brilliant. Thanks guys... love your videos! Happy Trails...

I don't full-time RV< but I do bugout camping due to hurricane state and living on the coast w/ a camper. one tip I have is - pack your clothes in totes and keep stackable similar totes that are short height to neatly fold and store dirty in and swap them after laundry is done. the point is : you can store them in the tub/shower during travel, and keep them there when camping where shower facility is available. and use the entire shower as storage w/ low-cost shelving to separate everyones clothing supply - wrinkle free shirt requirements store in the closet spaces and more room for other stuff.

Excellent tips on storage solutions. We used tension rods too, when we were RVing years ago. Since you're don't seem excited about your stove, how about getting a slow cooker or instant pot? We used a slow cooker (instant pots weren't invented yet!) and that worked out very well. The other tip I would say is treat the RV as a second home and buy it it's own set of towels, sheets, pots and pans and all the rest. This way, when you are getting ready to go, all you have to pack into the RV is your clothes and food. Everything else is already packed! This will save you tons of time and stress wondering if you remembered everything. Also, another tip, make up a really good first aid kit and not with just band aides and first aid cream. Include safety pins, various sizes of bandages, clothes that can be made into slings and so on. I hope everyone can benefit from these tips. (The first aide kit should be in everyone's car plus water bottles in case you ever have to leave home in a hurry.)

Cory Bowes I completely agree. I really don't like when people add clips in... it cheapens the editing to me. Just my opinion!

Love the clips! They were short and really didn't distract from her tour. The clips helped to boost her points.

I started watching you all in season 6 I think, so I’m working my way back through previous videos and it is really fun to see how things have changed, all the places you’ve been and all the things you have done. But this one starting off with Marc being a “man” took me 10 min to quit laughing so I could even watch....The movie clips, the wine and command strips..... I think I’ll get a glass of wine and watch it again haha As fun and funny as you two are, I think this is the funniest I’ve seen yet !!! Well done :))

Yes, I am a stickler about organization. We have been reducing our stuff for years, but want the best way to organize everything. You have some wonderful tips in the walk-thru, but a video based on being minimal in an RV would be great!

I originally started with this video when I was doing research on being new to RVing and it was a great help. A few more videos later and I was hooked and have started at the beginning of season 1 and am up to Episode 26...Thanks for all the useful info & laughs :)

Lol. Welcome! Glad you're enjoying them. I'm glad you stared at the beg.... this way you'll see the improvement instead of the other way around! :)

Oh, I did hear of an idea of hanging a basic curtain rod low on the wall as your coming into the travel trailer and it will hold your shoes. I'm going to give it a try when we go camping next weekend. Our kids are grown and we have 5 grandkids but we travel with a 5 yr old Siberian Husky & a 9 month old deaf Great Dane!

I am so laughing, because I just posted and did not mention this...Your after "bloopers" so to speak are perfect. Your bloopers are like icing on the cake after a fabulous video sharing your lives and experiences leading to learning with all of us. YAY. Mike here with Mary Beth, living the dream too until we find a home to purchase in LA soon. Living full time and loving it while we home search

You guys are great. Thank you for sharing your trips. Just purchased a 2017 F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost. In the process of install the Firestone Air Bags and your previous video showing the mistakes the were made on the installation was very helpful. Thanks again. Your efforts are much appreciated. Very entertaining too...

Great video. Loved the tour. Movie pop-ins were super funny. We use commando hooks in the shower for hanging wet swim suits. Also we saw where people used suck cups with string to hang their paper towel roll outside of the RV. (When BBQing). Small Dewalt shop vac doubles as a vacuum cleaner. Love the double duty idea. I stick to that when purchasing anything for the trailer.

Hi Trish, Marc & Family, We total love your RV tour especially the end with the bloppers and the wine/Modello salute. You asked fir suggestions of making things easier. The smaller metal hook command strips placed on the inside door of cabinet or on wall by stove make great hangers for cooking utensils. Hugs to you and yours. Sandy & Jay Livesay

Thanks for taking the time to make a video about some of your inside space saving solutions, you have some very nice low cost ideas! My husband Dale and I just found your newbie videos and thought it would hurt too check them out. My husband is legally blind and between us we have seven kids (mine, yours, ours) We have been doing a lot of research just on what travel trailer or RV/fifth wheel etc. we think will work for us; without being too over the top. Window shopping for now but had to admit between the two of us we don't have much experience in boon docking or otherwise with a trailer. The biggest thing my husband ever owned was a tear drop! (Second wife before she passed away in 2008) I have only ever camped out in a tent or in a cabin so no on the road experience, zero, zip, nada! We have been looking into the pro's and con's of the length of the trailers since as someone mentioned in another vid. that longer trailers become a problem especially with available space with hook-ups and some of the roads are rather narrow for backing and turning around.Have you guys ever run into this while your changing campgrounds?

I. Can't. Stop. Watching!! Excellent video! She reminds me of Reese Witherspoon. And yes, Mark knows where the magic happens. Great clip cuts, too! It reminds me a lot of our 5th wheel, except where yer kids sleep, my Jeep sleeps . Great ideas/suggestion, too! Thanks!

Hey guys, been watching your vlog for a couple of months now, and I love it. Trish, I travel with accent pillows as well, but when we pack up the trailer, I stuff them in the cupboards with dishes and food to keep everything from shifting around. Enjoy yourselves, looking for more travel tips and tricks from Marc and Tory. Cheers!
