Repairs and a little upgrade to these KEF CODA III speakers. Turned out to be ok in the end.

I own a pair of these and also the dual 8” version called Carina II. I used to work at a used goods store and was able to audition a huge number of various and vintage used speakers that came through the doors over the years. Out of all of them, I found these to be one of the best for midrange detail and musical transparency. It seems that the sheer thinness and lightness of these 8” paper woofers just allow the music to come to come straight through with amazing detail, uninhibited by weight. I also owned a set of Kef C60 reference speakers and found the 8” polypropylene woofers in those to sound more dull and muted compared to the paper cones.

I have re-filled and re-sealed several of those tweeters with new ferrofluid and replacement tweeters, nice satisfying job, love the sound of these speakers.

I have a pair and they sound fine for their size in my system with both solid state or tube gear.

After I'd finished them I was pleasantly surprised. Upgrading the tweeter circuit is well worth it. I always set speakers I've worked on for a quick listen after the work. I know I like them when 3 hours later I'm still listening to them 🤣

Now watching, glad you’ve fixed the driver.. did you check ferro fluid in the tweeters? I can’t remember if they were cooled or not?

I didn't. I'll have a look Tomorrow if I get chance.

@@haycrossaudio5474 they are indeed ferrofluid cooled. the tweeters in mine sound fine in frequency response tests up my hearing level of 14kHz. I guess that means that they do not ned fluid replacement, or am I wrong?

I just found a pair of these speakers today, my partner is quite pleased with the soft sound of it. I want to open it to see how is the state of the inside as these were left neglected in the open (under a roof but still .. outside). What should I look for to replace the foam (just in case I need to) and i read another comment about ferrofluid, what are they and how do I know it needs to be replaced? I’m quite intrigued to know if they just sound like this or they need some love. Ah and I’d like to change the binding posts later, but it seems you got a bit of a trouble there because they are long? Thank you for your video
