Bought a pair at the start of lockdown, £90 for a decent working pair. I'm tempted to take them apart and have a tinker with the wiring and crossover. Although I'm comfortable with a soldering iron, I've never taken speakers apart. Thanks for the nudge, I will have a go now I've seen what's inside.

It happened to me once! Now I always buy on site and insist on hearing them play before showing the money. If it doesn't satisfy me, the transaction is a no go. Maybe you should try to find 2 new woofers of better quality and rework the x-over to make a decent pair and keep them for yourself. Of course, the time and expenses will be greater, but who knows, you might enjoy the result. In any case, good luck !

Thanks Yves. I problem have a pair of woofers which would work but yeah the crossover would need revoicing. Not an issue but then what do I do with them. Don't think there worth a great deal even if they were in good condition. If the seller refunds me a bit then I might have a plan? Watch this space 😄

The 450 cap is probably in series with the woofer to increase the rolloff of the closed box from a second to a third order. I can recoil the woofer for you but I live in France.

Yeah it is so that's probably the reason. It's after the inductor in series with the woofer. Don't think I'd do anything with these woofers as the pretty naff. If the seller offers some for of refund then I might do something with them as the tweeter is 'ok'? Will see 😃

I'm confused. I have a pair but the cabinets are so much bigger than these. Was there 2 different models?

@@haycrossaudio5474 Yep. Are you a big lad? Perhaps they just look small next to them. I can't imagine mine being classed as bookshelf. I found mine on the street yesterday. They look in great condition but one has zero sound from tweeter and bass speaker sounds distorted. The other sounds great in my room as bass can be too boomy. I'll no doubt find a replacement cheap. I would have no idea how to fix it.
