Thank you for taking the time to do these videos and answer questions. There is so much bad information out there and videos of people doing bridge exercises and these muscles are so important for health and wellness. What do you think about the kegel apparatus that sit inside the vagina? Are they any good? Helpful or even misleading?
@michellephysio3 жыл бұрын
Hi AB great question! I think there is some apparatus that may assist if used correctly for example some weights may be of benefit if actively lifted doing Kegels however I think that just placing weighted objects within the vagina and hoping for the best is a waste of time and potentially dangerous for the pelvic floor particulalry if its weak, all the best

I gave birth 3 months ago with c cection, and my problem is constant constipation and trapped gas which is hard to let go, so i am bloated and full of gas even that i use glycerine sticks as laxatives... I realised i am unconsciously tightning my pelvic mussels... I also pee very often, waking up in the night for it also... I have anxiety disorder which is under treatment.. So my question is what should i do, would kegel exercises help?

Would you recommend an application for kegels exercises? It helps in regulating it and coaching through it.. any recommendations? Ideas?

What happens if a person is on medication, Lyrica, would kegels help to improve the muscles? I noticed during my resistance band training/low impact cardio I am leaking way more than usual! Or any other activity like cleaning. OR is it impossible to strengthen those muscles for your pelvis when you are on medication, cause you would be working against it? ...and Thank you for putting this video together & the time near the questions, it's very helpful.,

Hi Michelle, I have been recommending your videos to the women in my post natal exercise class to aid them in exercising at home. I was wondering what your thoughts are on using activation of the pelvic floor for finding and learning to activate the transverse abdominal muscles? Some of the moms in my class have not gotten normal rigidity back in the ligament between the two sides of their rectus abdominis, and every now and then I get a new student with a pronounced diastasis recti, so for that reason we have been working on proper activation of the pelvic floor as a means to activate the transversus. The students have expressed liking to learn how to activate the transverse abs, even the ones who are cleared for regular ab exercises seem to enjoy it, but I'm beginning to think that I've left the concept of continence and how to activate the urethral opening out of the picture, so to say. Sorry for rambling, and thank you for putting out such excellent information!
@michellephysio3 жыл бұрын
Hey Emma yes PF activation is a good way to activate the deep abdominals (Transverse Abdominis) however it relies on the woman being able to correctly activate her pelvic floor. If she can’t she might overactive the abs in an effort to contract her pelvic floor if this makes sense. I prefer to get a woman to side lying or 4 point kneeling and palpate TA and teach in this position because I want her to learn specific activation of this muscle first before working towards coactivation of pelvic floor and TA muscles. I hope this makes good sense Emma let me know if you need clarification, cheers
@emmamemma41623 жыл бұрын
@@michellephysio That was a very clear explanation, thank you Michelle! I agree, some students tense all kinds of other muscles, especially when they don't have a lot of "contact" with the pelvic floor. For me, finding the deep abs through pelvic floor activation was a piece of cake, but it has not been easy for all of my students. I will explore deep ab activation in the sideways and four point kneeling positions, I know you have some great videos for that. It's great to have more than one tool to use and I'm sure some of my students will be better served by your suggestion. Thanks a lot!

I sometimes strain my sciatic or piriformis when doing Kegle‘s so I’m obviously doing something wrong. It doesn’t happen all the time and always on the left side. Am I contracting the Kegel too forcefully?
@michellephysio3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim it sounds as though you’re activating your buttocks in the process of doing your exercises when they should remain relaxed throughout. Yes try doing the exercises more gently at first to revive your technique without using your glutes. Once you can do this, then increase your contraction strength, cheers

I noticed in the comments you made that kegels were contraindicated in cases of vaginismus. What about menopausal vaginal atrophy? Women are sometimes told they have vaginismus when it is actually vaginal atrophy due to estrogen level drop due to menopause. Are kegels ok with vaginal atrophy?

Can cycling and walking help with the pelvic muscle?
@michellephysio3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah cycling and walking are good low impact exercises for your whole body that are unlikely to injure or strain your pelvic floor however they won’t specifically strengthen it either - you need to do Kegels to achieve this so all the best!

Thank you so much for all your videos… I’m feel much less afraid after finding you. I have a prolapsed bladder and my gyno recommended I try kegels for a few weeks to see what happens before moving forward. I can’t isolate the anus from the vagina from the urethra… when I do the kegel, it feels like I’m squeezing and lifting all of them, or maybe the anus and vagina but not the urethra… so now I’m wondering if I’m doing them right at all. I’m also wondering if I can overdo the exercise and if I’ll end up doing g more damage than good. Thank you so much!!!
