some tips for you.. `. go to Bunnings and get some insulation for those pipes. Will help stop those condensation/icing issues and also ensure your cold glycol is acting on the wort, not the air. 2. I've also cracked open my G20 and removed the cable ties from the pumps that held them against the coils. The pumps are sooo much quieter now. 3. The provided front panel temp controllers are trash. I've hooked the pumps in mine up to independent arduino controllers with fermentrack. So much more accurate. 4. Lastly.... Build an enclosure for your fermenters. You'll get much better temp consistency and have less condensation to worry about. And the noisy g20 fans won't keep you awake so much :)

I would definitely recommend getting some lagging (pipe insulation) from Bunnings with an ID that matches up to your tubing. That will help reduce both the condensation issue and improve the cooling efficiency of the chiller. Another one I would look at is taping the probe for the other line to the pipe in front of it, and it setting the target temp to whatever the ambient temperature is, so that pump isn’t running coolant out of the reservoir all the time (should help with cooling as well). The difference between the set temp and the actual temp in your fermenter is probably due to the lack of lagging on the pipe into your fermenter as well as due to the way immersion chilling a tank of water works. If you want to hit -1°C, you would need to have a coolant temp of at least -6°C with a setup like that. (Just some educated guesswork and back of the envelope math, IANAE)

Yep, definitely going to grab some insulation, I reckon you're right. The other line is suggested to be moving to keep the main tank from potential icing, but I'm not sure if it needs to be on 100% of the time. Agreed on temp diff, I'm sure it's also due to the probe being inside the coil, it's probably hard to get the temp of the fermenter even throughout. Thanks for the help :)

Mash Hacks I also thought about the noise issue too, it might be worth looking into to have a look at a few pieces of egg carton foam (the black, wavey-patterned foam they sell at Clark rubber) and putting them behind and beside the chiller to absorb some of the sound from the compressor

Some of the temp loss will be due to the fact that part of the coil is cooling just air. Also you can buy insulation for the lines, Helps reduce the condensation. Good to see you back 👍🏻

Cheers! Will definitely be looking for some insulation to help with condensation and temp regulation.

very helpful. I don't have the same fermenter as yourself choosing to go with two Speidel Braumeister conicals, but a great look at the G20. Thank you

Thanks for the vid. I wondered how these glycol chillers worked. Definitely for the shed. Great info again. Cheers 🍻

The G20 is a fantastic machine. Does its job superbly, but may be not for in your home. Its not quiet. Mine is out in shed, but I so is my home office. Going to try and replace the supplied fan with one I've stolen out of a PC. Hoping I can reduce the noise down below current jet engine levels.

Looks awesome mate, I'm very tempted, I've heard you can use just water as well. Any idea how cold you could bump the temps down with water? Still good enough for a cold crash?

Dude, I'm glad to see you back. Does pressure rating change with so many holes, I run mine at 2 bar? Aren't those duo-tight hard to sanitize properly? Cheers!
@mashhacks
@mashhacks 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah not sure. I think the pressure rating should still be fine as the fittings are all designed for it. Should only need to be sanitised once and then taken apart periodically, much like a spigot. Good to be back :)

Hello how are you? Can I set the temperature to 20 degrees or 18? It is for the first stage of fermentation, then during maturation I will lower it to approximately 5 degrees.

So currently the Ss Brewtech glycol chillers are out of stock and have been for a while in the UK. I have a 7 gal unitank with the FTSs heating pad and controller but i’m unsure if i’d be able to use the G20 as it has it’s own pump to circulate the glycol and a temperature probe. The FTSs already has a temperature probe and only has a port for the pump. I’m stuck on solutions on how i can have both heating and cooling to switch and maintain a stable temperature without getting an Ss Brewtech glycol chiller where you put the FTSs pump inside the chiller. I am aware the G20 has a way of being able to heat as well but i’m not sure what i’d need and what’s compatible for it. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Hi LM, to be honest it's usually better to wait for the correct and compatible components to come in stock. Jerry-rigging stuff together can just be a pain sometimes. Having said that, if you're looking to get the G20 to do the glycol chilling, you could easily put the FTSs submersible pump inside the G20 unit (you can access the tank directly via a ~3" hole at the top). For heating I'd use the FTSs too, as the G20 does not have any heating capability. Hope this helps :)

Dude you really need to head over to home brew talk and look up the icemaster. There is a temperature differential you can adjust on it, also you can turn off the glycol pump on the one you are using my by holding the set button for 5 seconds, im not sure but i think thats how. I got the max4 btw.

Hmmmm $1000 glycol chiller or a $50 used mini fridge ?
@chop13bt
@chop13bt 2 жыл бұрын
Retail price is $599 and many people don't have room for a fermentation fridge that will fit a standard fermenter (most mini fridges will not fit a decent fermenter due to the compressor bulge in the bottom of the fridge). So there's that.

@@chop13bt I think a unitank and a glycol system takes up more room then a soda cooler. That’s just my opinion. 2 items take up more then just one
