It follows an episodic format with characters that aren't that notable even when compared to other slice of life anime. It did horribly over in Japan and the anime studio just wanted to get some type of profit out of the show when anime was starting to go through a Western popularity boom in the 2000s. On a side note the studio that made Ghost Stories is the same one that made Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto and Bleach as well other popular anime.
