Koh Kood in low season having just returned,........a lot of places and amenities in the resorts are closed (i.e on-site convenience shops, room service) dining hours are also restricted to around 8pm for last orders. If the weather is poor there isn't a great deal to do it is also one of the most sparsely populated islands so on the flip side very little traffic and it is a paradise.

So we will see what happens with that. I do Porsche, have a few great ones over here in California, I’ll move full time to Bangkok soon (I hope). I’d hate to leave all my cars at home and buy a lesser car for more money in Thailand but that is the curse of car addiction. Leaving your keys with your motorcycle is just asking for trouble. What's the point? How hard is it to put your keys in your pocket? Things are better than they used to be; that's partly because of cameras being everywhere, but things do get stolen here. A helmet of mine got stolen. Luckily, it was just a cheap one. I had a friend whose motorcycle was stolen from the parking lot of the building he lived in. There was a guard posted 24/7 and he didn't leave the keys with the vehicle. That means the thieves came in with a pick-up truck and lifted the bike onto the bed. The guard on duty was fired, and my friend received some compensation from the building owner, but it took months to get it straightened out.

I really think there is no need to learn Thai as it is very difficult like you mentioned. That little translator unit you had on your channel a few times is the perfect way to communicate and if you need a backup you can use your phone. It is nice to learn some simple phrases as the locals like it but the better you are at speaking Thai the more they assume you understand the language and it is almost impossible to understand if spoken quickly.
@davidmann25246 ай бұрын
Thats the biggest issue with Thailand. You can't really go anywhere as an expat and fit in with locals until you learn the language. Nobody wants to communicate through translator units. I don't understand why Aussies go and live permanently in Thailand. To start with, a male at 67 years of age can retire and receive a pension for the rest of his or her life. No pension in Thailand . In Australia if you need to see a doctor or need to be admitted to hospital for a operation etc again this is free. In Thailand, if you don't have medical insurance, you are in trouble. My wife was admitted at Bangkok hospital for Dengi fever and thank God we had travel insurance as no doctor or nurse would see my wife until the hospital staff were guaranteed their money If I had no insurance or money to pay for her medical expenses the hospital couldn't care less and turn her away. We are lucky enough to own our own home. In Thailand, you never own the land, the king of Thailand does, which is so ridiculous to me. When receiving the pension 95% of medication will only cost you a few dollars for each script. For low income families the Australian government will give you a house or unit with very low rent depending on how much you earn. No such thing in Thailand. From what I can see ,the King of Thailand gives the local Thai people jack shit. I don't understand why the Thai people think sun shines from the rear of the royal family as the royal family or King does jack shit to help the people. I mean, I can go on and write a book about this subject so for me to pack up and go and live in Thailand, and give up all the benefits from theAustralian government, I would have to have brain damage or similar Don't get me wrong, my wife and myself travel to Thailand twice each year and we love it. Nice weather, nice food, nice people, lots to do etc, great country for a holiday but NO way would I live there permanently
