If the record labels would've let him be himself, he would've been more successful. Of course, they tried the whole "sex sells" tactic with XXL and when that didn't work they went to love songs and when that didn't work they went to Tailgate Music with Pickin' Wildflowers. I blame the "Music Mafia" coming to Nashville and changing the whole town. Big & Rich, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, etc... That changed the whole industry. Country music used to be about real life, now it's just about what Madison Avenue thinks country life is. Madison Avenue doesn't know dick about country life. They ruined pure music. A very talented artist in his own right. I think he got caught up in the stigma of Big and Rich by association. Everybody who was associated with them Gretchen Wilson, James Otto, Randy Houser and Keith Anderson suffered the career kiss of death. Every artist in the so called "Music Mafia" is pretty much gone. The only one that hasn't got away from John Rich in particular was Jason Aldean.
