They WERE the show. Only time that was case with Sportscenter. People I knew planned around the start of the Big Show. The show Sports Night had Dan and Keith's inspiration all over it. It was too bad Robert Guillome fell ill and then passed. His character was as strong as anyone on television that first season.

"And...the whiff..." SportsCenter and ESPN revolutionized television sports. And these two guys were the best ever. Props also to Kenny Mayne, et al. And I will never understand the hatred for Chris Berman. I miss those old days when I watched every day. I still listen to Dan Patrick in the morning as his voice is an underscore to life. I love how these two are reflecting on the early days and how Dan brings up how they had a great owner back then, as if pretty much inferring that ESPN doesn't have that now. Cuz after all, Dan is right! ESPN was about sports back then, now it's more about the drama surrounding athletes and their lives off the court/field/etc. It sucks so bad now, i loved Kieth and Dan, and then adored the next duo almost as much, Stuart Scott and Rich Eisen, (i think that's how his name is spelled), who they took over as the new primary anchors for sports-center in the late 90's to early 2000's.

If the 90s version of SportsCenter were still a winning format in 2019, you can be certain ESPN would have stuck to it. But in an age where it's easy to find whatever highlights we want on KZbin and other websites, that's no longer the reality. I'm not a fan of opinion shows myself, but the days where SportsCenter could merely focus on highlights and post-game interviews and expect a large viewing audience are over.

The young ones will never know how entertaining Sportscenter was in the 90's. It was just a different world, and you may watch KZbin clips, but its just not the same. You have to put yourself in a mindset of a world with no internet, and if youre young, its just not possible.

All the anchors back then had such charming personalities. I remember it was maybe early 2010s when the old stalwarts went away and you just got a bunch of nobodies coming out of SU who were probably good on paper and could read a teleprompter. But they didn't have any charisma like the laundry list of stellar anchors from the 90s and 00s.
