I remember back on the late night show after one of his visits, I was watching an unrelated episode (he wasn’t a guest that night) Anyway, the guests are playing a game and they ask the audience what number they should pick and it cuts to a shot from the crowd where if you pay attention you can see Keith picking a number 🤣🤣🤣

It's not the first time The Stones have played a small club by surprise. In 1981 (Wikipedia) they popped up at Sir Morgan's Cove in Worcester, MA.

Keith lives up the street from me in semi-rural Ct and at one time he would stop by a local bar on open mic night to have a beer. A few times he sat in with the house band for a few songs and then finished his beer before just walking out. IOW, he's well practiced at doing this quick pass-through. I have also heard that he likes to practice on his patio, which borders on a local forest preserve. If you are lucky enough to be walking the trails, you might stumble on some music.

The Stones were in the Worcester MA area years ago to practice at a farm west of the city. Just before they left to go on tour, they surprised everyone by playing at a small club called Sir Morgan’s Cove. A lucky few got in that night. I just heard about it. The Cove has been torn down now, but that was an awesome thing that they did & are still doing.

The Stones made the mistake of Not coming out for an encore in 1978 at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. The fans threw bottles and tore up the stage. A memorable experience.

So was I soooo close at Brixton Academy in London a very low stage I was 10 feet from them ! UNFORGETTABLE GOT MY FREE TICKET The Virgin radio announced the location early morning it was crazy my friend was already in the line I had to find the guy who gives the stamp could not find the guy when I am nearly to the stamp inspector the guy showed up got inside got my ticket and the rest is history !!!❤

I like that Fallon is at least attempting to feign the sort of spontaneity David Letterman used to have naturally (and nightly) on his original show. He even kind of does a Letterman-style “oh now! I’m befuddled by what’s just occurred” after Keith exits stage right. It doesn’t fit the persona, but it does show an effort at showmanship and the host trying to age gracefully in a role he’s had for close to a decade now. He can’t keep the “I’m the young, zany host” shtick up forever; so good on him for trying something new. Very cool of Keith to play along for some extra camera time to promote the record. Savvy businessmen all around.
