This song was in the movie Notting Hill, and my mother had that soundtrack. My dad used to hold me as a baby & dance me around their modest little bedroom. I almost lost my dad last year, but he beat literally all odds & survived. I’m getting married this November, and by the grace of God, my father will be there to walk me down the aisle. This song holds so much weight in my heart & soul.

The first time I heard this song was in 1971 Billy Bob Thornton went to Philadelphia MS to visit Marty Stuart and he brought back a Demo Paul Overstreet had given him on a cassette tape. Billy Bob checked out a Panasonic cassette player from the library at Thomas Jefferson Academy and played this song until the tape wore out. One of my friends told me (Charley Pride's fiddle player) that Keith was recording a Paul Overstreet song, I knew he was working on Don't Close Your Eyes by John David Smith, but back then people did a lot of talking, I didn't think much about any of it. When Keith started getting some local airplay and I heard his version of When you say nothing at all, I said, Wait a minute, I've been playing and singing this song for friends and family since 1971. 😊now they'll tell me I've been doing it wrong for 20 +/- years. Keith killed it, that's for sure. Hope he found peace.

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart Without saying a word you can light up the dark Try as I may I could never explain What I hear when you don't say a thing The smile on your face lets me know that you need me There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me A touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall Now you say it best when you say nothing at all All day long I can hear people talking out loud But when you hold me near you drown out the crowd Old Mister Webster could never define What's being said between your heart and mine The smile on your face lets me know that you need me There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me A touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall Now you say it best when you say nothing at all The smile on your face lets me know that you need me There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me A touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall Now you say it best when you say nothing at all

Cathy Mcmenomy I know all about just how hard being an addict myself and having an addicted mother although she was the nicest lady you could meet and would never even guess she had addiction to opiates for legit physical pain issues at about half my life she just wasn't the same ever again. She divorced my Father bc she thought that he wasn't exciting enough they were married 22 year's. After she had gotten sober she was miserable bc she felt so guilty and missed my Dad greatly. Had she had tried sooner to get him back he would've. He does not do drugs not smoke or even take a prescription narcotic if it was prescribed for surgery..lol the reason I'm rambling is bc I know u are tired. I can sense it even though u love him. It's very hard myself I'm in recovery to forgive my mom now that she's passed I forgive her for having being defeated by her own battles with demons but she slowly just withered away and after her parents died in '09 she grieved until the day she died. She wouldn't go to therapy she seemed to enjoy misery and being the martyr/victim. This song she used to play in Allison's first CD I never knew it or forgot that HE HAD SANG IT AND WAS HIS.. BOY WAS I GLAD TO HEAR HIS VERSION..IT GIVES ME SUCH A GOOD FEELING LISTENING TO HJM AND ALOT OF MUSIC. IM 32 AND I LOVE OLD-SCHOOL COUNTRY. THESE DAYS IT'S JUST NOT WHAT I GREW UP TO..LOL. THESE WERE CLASSY, JUST SIMPLY WELL THOUGHT OUT LYRICS AND THE NEW SOUND THEY WERE TRYING TO FIND THE PRODUCER I BELIEVE SAID IN HIS INTERVIEW. I ALSO FEEL CONNECTION WITH HIS DEATH. ALMOST THE EXACT SAME WAY MY CHILDS FATHER DIED IN THE MATTER OF 2 HOURS AND FOUND OUT HE HAD BEEN SMOKING CRACK -COCAINE..HE HAD ME COME GET HIM TO GET AWAY FROM HIS NEW GIRLFRIEND THEY WERE FIGHTING ABOUT HOW A VIOLENT DRJNK GETS AND I REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO GO..I WAS ALMOST OVER HIM. I WAS SEEING SOMEONE MYSELF BUT I THOUGHT I HAD A FEELING A YANKING TUG IN MY GUT, CALL IT INTUITION..TO GO GET HIM. WELL I COULD TELL I'D NEVER SEEN HIM SO JUST OVERWHELMED AND NEW THAT THIS WAS BAD..SOMETHING WAS JUST GONE INSIDE HIM. HE WAS TROUBLED SOUL AND NEVER COULD SEE HOW MUCH HE WAS LOVED. HE AND I HAD BEEN SPLIT UP A YEAR HAD A 4YR OLD SON WE SPENT THAT WHOLE DAY WITH. HE WAS TRYING TO GET BACK WITH ME BUT THE SHIP DONE SAILED I COULDN'T HAVE THE DRUNK STUFF AND DOPE PEOPLE AROUND OUR KID. ALTHOUGH HE BINGED LIKE KEITH HE COULD GO A LONG TIME W/O IT. WELL TO MAKE THIS SHORTER..HE HAD ME DROP HIM OFF AND IT WAS AT HIS BUDDYS AND HIS WIFES APT. HE LIVED JUST A FEW BLOCKS DOWN I JUST KNEW HE WAS SO ENRAGED BY HER TANTALIZING HIM..THEY WERE KNOWN TO BE PARTYING HARD AND HE WAS OUT OF CONTROL. HE WAS A PERFECT FATHER AND GOOD PERSON EXCEPT IT WAS JECKYLL/HYDE. HE TRIED TO GET IN THEIR HOUSE AND PUNCHED A WINDOW SO HARD AND DEEP IT HIT A MAIN ARTERY IN HIS ARM. THEY HAD HIM TIED OFF BUT THE ALCOHOL THINNED THE BLOOD HE RAN BACK TO HIS BUDDIES AFTER HE DID IT..PANICKING. I GOT A CALL FROM THE BUDDY AND IT HAD ONLY BEEN 2 HOURS HE WAS ALIVE AND THEN GOT THAT CALL I WAS CONCERNED THOUGHT HE WOULD BD OK..HE LOST SO MUCH BLOOD HE BLED TO DEATH ON THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL. THATS WHAT TRIGGERED ME INTO PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE. GOD DOES THINGS FOR A REASON WE HAVE A SWEET CUTE CHARMING LIL' BOY HES GREATLY TALENTED INCREDIBLEY SMART...AND HE HAS MADE MY LIFE TURN FROM TRADGEDY TO KNOWING LOVE FOR MYSELF AND LOVING HIM INFINITELY. HE DOESN'T REMEMBER HIS DAD I HAVE TOLD HIM STORIES HE WAS A GOID DAD DESPITE HIS DRUG AND ALCOHOL. HE LOVED KIDS WAS GOOD WITH THEM AND MY SON INHERITED THAT AND COMPASSION HIS DAD LACKED BUT IM THANKFUL HE DIDNT SEE ME IN MY ADDICTION WITH PILLS. I HID IT AND MY MOM KEPT HIM ALOT. BUT I PRAY THE CYCLE IS BROKEN. HES A GOOD KID. IM JUST NOW TEACHING HIM ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD. HE IS MY ANGEL. THANKS FOR LISTENING I NEEDED TO WRITE THIS OUT,.LOL SORRY FOR JOURNALING ON HERE. IT'S JUST I FEEL THE CONNECTION WITH LORRIE SHE COULD'VE STAYED IT WOULD'VE BEEN WORSE. LEAST HE DIDNT SUFFER. HE WAS A GOOD PERSON THATS WHAT IM EMOHASIZING PPL THINK BC ADDICTS HAVE DONE BAD THINGS THAT ALL ARE BAD, IM SURE YOU KNOW ALL OF THIS. YOU SEEM LIKE STAND BY YOUR MAN WOMAN..MUCH RESPECT AND PRAYERS. THERES HOPE IT WILL ALL WORK OUT. FAITH HAS LOTS TO DO WITH THE DRIVE TO BE CLEAN. THE WORD..MEETINGS GROUPS. GOD BLESS..I WILL PRAY FOR YOU ALL. IM WRITING IT DOWN RIGHT NOW. GOOD LUCK.
