I always use a beer can and a hose clamp for piston ring compressor. But that's just me

I would ditch the ring and use a brass bushing. Quite a bit of friction, and really low surface area for an oring. The bore is way to small to consider a piston ring.

Brass is no good at all for such parts and wears out very quickly. The existing Piston ring is perfectly fine and works well.
