Hello Mr. Cooper, Ive been enjoying and learning from your videos. I just purchased an Epson P900 and am very excited to get started using it. We had an Epson 2880 for years and loved it.

Thanks - the 900 is a good printer, and you don't have to swap black inks

Thanks for all your learning videos They are very helpful Can you make a video comparing canon pro 300 and epson p700 in picture quality and colour accuracy.
@KeithCooper2 жыл бұрын
Glad they are helpful, but no, I'm afraid I don't ever make comparisons between brands. Without a lot of explanation and context, the answer would always be "It depends" My reasons... www.northlight-images.co.uk/video-which-photo-printer/ Picture quality and colour accuracy are essentially meaningless terms, without a rigorous and well defined test methodology - even then I'd question its actual value.

Hey Keith! Do you happen to know if the canon pixma pro 200 tells you when you are running low on ink? On the little screen? PM looks really low for me, and I haven’t seen anything warning me that the ink is low. Is this something I will have to figure out myself?
@KeithCooper2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it will alert when low and then again when it absolutely insists on changing

@@KeithCooper I received the “Notice⚠️” Warning on my printer screen. Warning for 2 low ink colors. After this, every time I printed something out, even my computer would tell me that ink is low. The warning doesn’t look like it’s going away on my computer or printer screen. How long do you think I can go printing? Is it dangerous for my printer? Or will the warning change and let me know that It’s finally at its limit? I already ordered ink. I just want to know if it’s totally safe to keep printing even with the warning unable to leave my screen?
@KeithCooper2 жыл бұрын
The low warnings are, for me, just a reminder to have spares ready. It will say when it really won't go further - the 'low' warnings can last for ages - it depends on the colour and what sort of images you print

Why do you use p700 instead of p900 ? I think p700 is more expensive to maintain(ink cost) (low quantity ink -25ml)
@KeithCooper2 жыл бұрын
Ah - there is a difference between what I personally use and what I happen to have on loan from Canon or Epson for testing at any particular time... I have a P700 here because after my initial P700 and P900 reviews they went back. The P700 is back here for me to do some tests regarding papers and printing. From a print quality (and profiling) POV the 700 and 900 are identical. You are correct in the relative ink costs. Of the two, I'd prefer a P900 because I like to make big prints. Ink costs are not a concern from my POV, but I appreciate they are for many people. Personally, I prefer to use much much larger printers ;-) I'm hoping to get some in this category for review later this year

Hi Keith loving your videos full of so much information, just taken delivery of the P900 using Pinnacle cotton rag bright white (your recommendation) presume the setting is Ultra Smooth fine art paper with the supplied profile - can you recommend any other settings to follow or do you have another video with any other info on it - hope this makes sense and thanks in advance - Adrian

See the main [written] review - the videos are usually supplements to the written stuff - you can also see the profiles I made for the P900 review [the P700 review is also worth reading, since the two are identical from a profiling POV] USFA is a good default - I always include the media settings in the profile name, just to be sure. www.northlight-images.co.uk/epson-sc-p900-printer-review/ My written articles are always the place to go to see everything I've produced for a particular printer [videos and articles]

Hello. I just found your channel and I'm very impressed. I'm an amateur photographer of 50 years (I'm 70) but no real experience with printing my own photos. I need a printer that can do the usual stuff, scan documents, make copies, print 2 sided, print from my Mac, iPad or iPhone and also make a good (great?) photo print. I shoot both color and B/W. My budget is around a grand (under is better). I want to print at least 11x14. I have spent the last 3 days researching and it's a little bewildering. And there's the dye or pigment thing. Ouch! Could you make some recommendations to help narrow it down for me a bit? And if you'd rather not, I understand. Thank you!
@KeithCooper2 жыл бұрын
Your answer is in wanting 'the usual stuff' as well... The ET-8550 is the only higher end printer that I've looked at recently which also does this. That 'usual stuff' is normally an automatic indication (to me) that the printer is a basic consumer printer, not a photo printer. Have a read of my ET-8550 review - my written reviews are where the 'real detail' lives... www.northlight-images.co.uk/epson-et-8550-printer-review/ The videos are generally produced to supplement the written works. Oh, and look at the mention of the free EPL software - high quality and printing from mobile devices are pretty much mutually exclusive ;-)

Have you tried arches cold paper or warm press? Do you think it will work with heavy paper (300gr) ?
@KeithCooper2 жыл бұрын
Sorry not those, but very similar - I can only test what I can get hold of for testing - I cannot afford to buy boxes of expensive paper just to test a few sheets - see the list in the review (both P700 and P900 reviews - they are very similar in this respect) It easily works with thicker paper - right up to board See the actual review for more www.northlight-images.co.uk/epson-sc-p700-printer-review/

G'day Keith, I just picked up your book. I'm looking to get an Epson ET-8550 but I've noticed that you seem to have reservations about it's quality (or to be fair, it's quality without specific configuration). I'm very much a beginner to both Photography and Printing and would like the opportunity to experiment with an Ecotank before I look into investing in a more expensive per-print pigment based printer. However, if a pigment based printer is the bare minimum cost of entry, it would be useful to know before-hand so I can calibrate my expectations. Do I need a P900 to produce prints without significant experience with printing? Will it be of benefit to 'cut my teeth' on an ET-8550 and make a lot of prints before I look at getting a pigment printer? Recently, in another area of art, with painting miniatures I discovered the sheer improvement expensive brushes and paints make to the learning process. Would a P900 accelerate my learning, or, would it be better to get an ET-8550 and accept there is just a certain amount of practice and volume of printing that needs to be done before I can advance in skill. I understand that in photography, you recommend taking many photos and taking them often as opposed to relying on any particular piece of 'kit' beyond the fundamentals. Is printing like that too?
@KeithCooper2 жыл бұрын
Hope the book is worthwhile! If you're new to printing the 8550 is a great place to start - but as you spotted, does need profiles to get the very best out of it (see the ones I've produced - listed in the main written review). Check some local paper suppliers and see if they have or will make profiles for it. Epson do include profiles for many of their papers The P900 is a very good printer - profiles are much more widely available, but there is the cost. Printing is very much a 'try it and see' set of skills to acquire and one of the things I did like about the 8550 was that with a basic good paper to start with, you could be much freer in experimenting - such as making use of test images. I'd also suggest that much like giving a top end camera to someone starting out, you need to hone basic skills to start with. So as with the tilt/shift lenses you need to have a certain amount of photographic experience to see and appreciate the differences they can make.
@beyond.wudge135792 жыл бұрын
I've followed your advice to 'take more photos' and 'make more prints'. While I'm waiting to assemble the basic kit together, I used what I had on hand to get some images I've taken together, edit them and make a few prints. It's been quite illuminating. I appreciate the importance of color profiles, the issues of soft-proofing and centrality of paper choice for getting a print you are happy to put up on a wall or give to someone. And yes, my first print was too dark! I'm going to sort out the lighting in my room now.

Hello Keith :) I looked all of your videos concerning the P900 (and P700) which I bought end of last year. Is it possible for you to show how to feed thick paper from the front? I have 310g/sm in A2+ from Capture X (Rag Smooth) which I cut from a 10m role. Thanks in advance. HaJo from Freising (Bavaria)
@KeithCooper2 жыл бұрын
OK, I'll look into that on the 700 I have here at the moment. I've only used the front feed for poster board - all my papers have worked via the top. What sizes of paper are you using?
@hans-joachimrode14502 жыл бұрын
@@KeithCooper Thank you for the reply. I cut the paper of the role and it is 17x25.5 inches (A2+ format). The top feed only works with help of my fingers ;-) therefore I look for the front load.

@@KeithCooper Thank you... One other remark. If I use sheet paper from the box (for example A2+ from Hahnemühle) and put let's say 2 sheets in the top feed it work very well. Maybe it is because I cut the paper from the role. I leave the paper 2 or more days on the floor with books on the edges.
