That story with your mom was killer Leon. My mom is the same way. I was suspended for wearing my Kill'em all shirt in third grade and they took it from me (made me wear a shitty school shirt). My mom went up there PISSED OFF, told them to give it back to me. The school said my parents needed to be more aware of what I was into/listening to and my mom lost her shit, something along the lines of ," AWARE!?!? I got the god damn shirt for him for Christmas!!" Same Christmas I got my Cowboys From Hell CD. Her and my dad always took up for me when I'd catch shit at school for being into metal as deep as I was. They knew it wasn't dangerous, exact opposite, it was (still is) constructive for me, it's the reason I picked up guitar at age 7. .... God damn Louisiana bible belt stupidity.

It all made sense when you said bible belt. Middle-American boomers hate our kind in most cases. Although, I had a Tomb of the Mutilated shirt taken right off my back by a teacher in 7th grade, in California. That shirt was pretty gnarly, though.

Love that you took the time to think about my question and discuss it with friends/family. I actually had Kyle in mind while writing it, so I'm glad he chimed in too. For the record though, I wasn't trying to imply that metal incites violent behavior, but rather I was just interested in hearing y'all's thoughts on metal's fascination with the darker side of life so to speak. Hope you are safe, and now I'm going to your merch store to support the show because this is my new favorite thing to look forward to every week!

I love how life works in coincidences, a couple days before you released part 1, I heard a Slayer song and was like “you know, I should relisten to some Slayer again” then you drop part 1 and was like oh yeah, it’s Slayer time lol I had like 13 hours of driving to do in between the two parts so I listened to a good chunk of their discography during my drive and it was good to remember how kick ass they are lol

Haunting the Chapel was my first Slayer. In high school, my buddies and I would drop acid, pile into a friends Buick and pop the Haunting the Chapel tape into the Spark-O-Matic tape deck, crank it up, turn off the headlights and go hauling ass thru this under construction subdivision that didn't have any street lights installed yet.

Grip Inc is/was massively underrated. Everyone talks about Dave, but Waldemar Sorchyta influenced metal so much with both his guitar playing and productions (Moonspell, Samael, Tiamat, Sentenced, to name a few... ), Gus was a really unique vocalist. rip.

Damn, you still got the bass, that’s so sick. I recall when you showed it in one of your earlier studio walkthroughs you mentioned that you might get rid of it. So cool to see you still got it 😍😍😍 Now, for the real challenge. Instead of getting a sicker Slayer tone than you guys got out of the Kerry King plugin, get a sicker Slayer tone from the LePou plugins and feature that 😂😂😂 Hmm, I wonder if you could run the LePou, King, Granophyre etc. plugins out of your interface into the power amp section of one of your heads and into a cab?. Or maybe run it into the little Revv head with the onboard two notes gear? 🤔🤔🤔

I'm glad that your are back. Down To The Merrow is awesome. I follow your channel since was called "diabolic 5150", if I remember it right. A production related question: I'm in audio production, home studio of course, and stereo widening has become an obsession since I began specially on guitars. How do you deal with this? Some use send on the guitars bus to reverbs or delays and/or mid/side EQ in the master bus.. Do you use some process to guitar widening? And other question... Thinks on the Driftwood Purple Nightmare? I've seen your have one. Thanks.

Question for Keith. I've found myself becoming a stepfather to three amazing children. Their father is in jail and he doesn't have anything to do with them. This is something I take very seriously. I love these three so much. The question I wanted to ask is how has having children changed your view of the world? I know for me it's definitely made it more important to practice what I preach and to do the best I can to have a positive effect on the world. Thanks for your time. You're my favorite riff writer of all time 🖤

Not that I am super into listening to the radio these days. But, I think it is such a bummer that Portland doesn't even have a MODERN rock station anymore. #bringback101KUFO! It was nice to "occasionally" hear some heavier music on terrestrial radio. I remember staying up late as a teen in the mid 90's and waiting for them to play some heavier stuff, like Pantera, Slayer, and Korn. You would even hear some death metal once in a blue moon. I also miss the Rockfest concerts and contests they used to put on. IIRC the Slayerized Lullabies thing was when they came with Lamb of god on the unholy alliance tour. Some of the contests even gave local bands the chance to play with national acts in front of very large crowds. A few of them were pretty wild. One year they made a bunch of the bands lead singers actually enter a boxing tournament and the winning singers band got to open at Rockfest. They set up a full size boxing ring inside of a local bar, it was pretty nuts. I feel like the younger local rock and metal fans missed out.. So sad that Rock/metal music although definitely not dead, has had to move to the internet to survive.

Love these videos. I seriously look forward to them every week. Question: have you ever used a small preamp pedal for demoing your songs? I realize it takes a while to dial in some killer tones, but for on the fly recording, I find something like a Horizon Devices Apex Preamp or a KSR Ceres gets the tone I need super easy. Thoughts?

Keith... You are not alone, brother. I'm also not proud to admit, my very first CD ever was a stolen copy of South of Heaven I acquired @ the "Ware-House" Music Store in Ontario, Ca. However, I AM proud to admit, having paid for every one of at least 40 concert tickets to see them live, most of Jeff's Signature guitars, and not less than $100,000 worth of collectables of ALL types. Kerry is only, likely, surpassed by Gene as the true "King" of merch... and they definitely got it outta me eventually!

I honestly just stick to a combination of BIAS amp (if I need to make a custom amp to import into FX) and FX plus my library of IRs. A lot more fiddling around but I have just as much fun trying to build a tone as I do actually using it so yknow, I can put hours into fiddling around with tones and have enjoyed every minute...often finding new tones I like and getting distracted and coming up with stuff for later songs
