Keith, that tool with a piece of soapstone on the end is a pipe marker. You lay the body of it on a pipe and set the angle you need. It will mark all the way around the pipe. You can make saddles, elbows, etc by marking the pipe and then cutting with a torch. Used one of those and one way bigger for years doing pipe fitting. You can even mark smooth turn elbows for fit ups.

Mr. Rucker, I grew up in MN, learned self reliance from my mother and father. Thus we were taught to take responsibility for our choices and the consequences of our actions. I moved to California about 20 years ago, and the first thing I notices was the WARNING... "This item contains material know to cause..." I have never understood this, but it is so common as to be ubiquitous. I personally have thought California should remove all of the warning labels from packages and just put up signs at every point of entry (land, air or sea) that state "California is know to cause cancer. Enter at your own risk." Strange state with a complete absence of common sense. Thank you for you channel it your efforts teach us something new each week. -Annie

They even have to make different formulations of gasoline for summer and winter! Welcome to the wonderful state of California . . . where all the nuts don't grow on almond or walnut trees!

We have it in Maine but there's a huge difference between winters in those 2 states. I understand WD-40 has a special formulation for CA because the regular blend is illegal in CA for some reason. I'd like to know who has been drinking it ....

Keith that gizmo with the soapstone is a curve-o-mark You lay it on a pipe or tube with the angle you need and swing the soapstone around the piece till all the way around The body acts like a v block. I have one I can do up to 24" pipe Curve-o-mark makes lots of lay out tool for fabrication . Your tap handle is chromium plated dont lick it And yes nice L bracket now you just need some hold down bolts for it.

The item with the chalk on it is called a Curv-O-Mark, it is layed along the pipe and lines are struck around used for making joints on pipes like branches and Y joints on pipe about 2" to 12" there is a larger model for larger pipe sizes too.

+Mentorcase I was just about to post this same explanation. I've got one of each size, and they work like a champ for coping big pipe for weld joints. You lay the thing you stood on end down onto the long axis of the pipe like a v-block, which keeps the tool aligned with the pipe lengthwise, then you use the arm to mark out the projection of an angled plane around the OD of the pipe. In my experience, a really large hose clamp or really small ratchet strap (or another guy) can be used to hold the v-block portion to the pipe securely, so you can spend your time focused on making a good line. They work really well and are just about the only good way to lay out an exact angle on the OD of a big pipe.

Keith, it is for marking pipe, to be cut with a torch. If you want to make two piece 90*, then you set it at 45*. If you want a three piece, you set it 22.5*.You set the angle, you lay it on the pipe ( works somewhat like a "V" block in reverse) so that it is straight with the length of the pipe, and you can reach all the way around the pipe. That size will work up to about 12" pipe.On larger pipe, you mark your pipe, top and bottom. Then set up to mark top half as far as it will reach, then set up on bottom (up side down) and mark up each side.Hey, maybe I need to dig mine out and make a movie.

Wow that square is awesome! I was thinking that faucet handle is chrome covered, thats probably why the warning label was put on. Also before you dip that ceramic cover into your crucible it might be handy to preheat the ceramic with a torch. My aunt used to handle ceramic items and I've seen her on more than one occasion preheat ceramic to prevent thermal shock.

Keith. I can see there are some bends on that Pyrometer. That is why it doesn't fit the sheath. I would try to roll it on the table with a piece of wood on top and straighten it out. Just as you would straighten a piece of tubing. Shouldn't affect it's operation as the sensing element is at the tip.

The Morse taper adaptor is also for using a draw bar in the taper that's inserted into it. I need one so I can still use my MT3 ER32 collet chuck with the M12 drawbar. A normal Morse taper adaptor would be useless for anything with a drawbar.

The pyrometer cover won't fit because the pyrometer has some bends in it. I would suggest roll-straightening the pyrometer between two plates to straighten it before doing any grinding at all. It looks to me that the cover will go if the blade is straightened.

your protractor thingy is used for doing pipe lay out or I beam. i think if you us it right will help you cope big pipe if you know a welder or pipeliner he could show you how to use it very similar thing are used for lay out of logs in log cabin construction.

I had some Balsamic Vinegar (used for cooking) that had a California lead warning on it. I contacted the manufacturer and they told me that it naturally occurs in the grapes, they also told me it was perfectly safe to consume. The label was intended only for California and somehow some of the bottles were shipped to my state.

In my time spent working here (www.specialmetalswiggin.co.uk/ - a company that just happens to manufacture Inconel tubing) I did, on the odd occasion, fabricate batch furnace thermocouples - usually type R, but sometimes type K and N (and survey thermocouples, but we'll not go there). Depending upon application, we made what we called "half sheath," "2 inch tip" and "blank end," but in all cases when replacing broken thermocouples the replacements were fitted SLOWLY to avoid the aforementioned thermal shock. Ceramic sheaths were not used on the melting furnaces due to this issue; they used disposable pyrometer tips instead (heraeus-electro-nite.com/en/sensorsformoltenmetals/sensors_molten_metals.aspx). NB Half Sheath - a ceramic sheath mounted into a shortish Inconel 600 tube, for fixed position, furnace sidewall mounting. 2 inch tip - a ceramic sheath mounted into a longer Inconel 600 tube, for furnace sidewall mounting, but with extra mechanical support when withdrawing the thermocouple for charge/discharging of the furnace. Blank end - a full-length Inconel 600 tube, sealed at one end, with a ceramic sheath liner, for mounting in furnace roofs. A typical example can be seen here... Another good video Keith. We live in California and have lived with the cancer warning labels for so long you become oblivious to them. They are everywhere on everything so after a while you don't even notice them anymore. Despite the government's good intentions I suspect the incidence of cancer in California is similar to surrounding states. Can't afford to repair our roads or build water storage but we can afford to harass those trying to conduct business here.

HI Keith, That reducer is clearly jinxing you. A dead centre rotating in the spindle of a lathe is a live centre. Note to others, a live centre should be soft and trued up in situ before each job for best repeatability. Some sources state that a live centre has to be driven and a rotating centre used in a tailstock is a bearing centre or running centre.

Heh, a Curv-O-Mark, i use one whenever i have something very precise, but complicated to join on an in-situ job. Had a three H beams that had to meet, this tool made it all easier. It has to sit on the pipe section (tho, you can also use it for when you want to intersect pipes with flat surfaces). You're missing the strap and another piece of metal that's supposed to help you set up your "x edge" on to square stock (or square edges). That's what it comes with in the kit. FYI, there's other parts you can buy (or well, could, not sure what's up with that). Here's the PDF parts and other tools in the series, it also has a few pics that show how you can use it. www.lencocanada.com/files_800-05/800-5.pdf Frankly, one of the best tools as far as versatility goes. If you need something marked precisely, chances are you can do it with one variant and position of this tool.

The first handful are all on replacing and flushing, even one on diagnosing heater problems. I also know there are a lot on brakes and electrical problems.

Knowing Cali? Probably (due to the Chromium in it). The reason chrome plating is "harmful" is primarily due to the chemicals used in the plating process.
