Thank you for the honesty! Genetically, I grow (and keep) nearly 16 inches of hair each year, so I cut it off to about 2 inches every year or so. I’ve grown 2 sets of locs to a little shorter than yours, but unravel/cut once mature because I missed the frizz. 😂 I plan to start a new set before the year is over, but Lord knows they may be gone by year two. Also, your hair is beautiful!!

I'm 16.5 months (16 as of Oct 1). I would have been further but I took out first set because they were a little too big (280). At 350 now and this last retwist was so easy - just a few stubborn ones that are slipping but the rest are finally acting right. I do not miss loose natural hair at all and am looking forward to the coming drop. Seeing you ahead of me gives me lots to look forward to while enjoying this current bob. Thank you again for documenting and sharing your journey as you've really helped me DIY my own and stick with it especially in the early days of constant marrying. PS I'm team don't pull when doing length checks this way when your hanging length looks like you just made the goal you then pull and show you're already past the mark!

I love love love this! I’m 21 months in, and my locs are growing faster than I thought! They are starting to creep down my back, and I just finessed (aka using several Bobby pins) a center part low bun today. Can’t nobody tell me nothing 🤣 I’m becoming more curious as to how my would look at bra strap length. It might take some time since they’re pretty much in layers

Congratulations!!! It's creeping down your back & you're still talking to us?! Lol I've been following for a couple of years, so thank you for being an inspiration! I have complicated my journey a lil bit...I started mine in March of last year but wasn't happy with the size in the back/crown area, so I combed all of those out over the summer, re-did them smaller, but kept the rest. Now it looks like I have a graduated bob with the front being almost a year & a half mature & hanging & the back kind of looking stacked. Technically I have 2 locaversaries now 😫 lol I'm loving my journey & only regret not starting years ago. Congrats again on your gorgeous journey💜🙌🏽🫶🏽🎉

I don’t think I can get past doing a 8hr-2 day retie though…I typically wash and retwist my 80 locs in two hours and love this lifestyle lol. Congratulations on making it 3 years!!! Congrats on 3 yrs! I’ll be 1 yr locd in December and I can’t wait! I have traditional locs and I absolutely love them but like you mentioned, as someone who works out, retwists only last so long and you don’t always wanna get a style just to prolong it. That would be the big reason I think microlocs and getting reties instead would be beneficial for me, but I’m just glad I’ve reached the point in my journey where I embrace the frizz and don’t mind the no retwist look

To thicken my locs and give them the appearance of thickness I section hair out every 3 rows and while using a soft wave brush, brush them both downward and up wards then afterwards I mist my hair with a spray bottle running my fingers through it all for styling. I do this maybe once or twice a month❤

Hmm lets see. Where am I in my lock journey... I started wearing locks in 1998. They were done pretty shity. So before I reached my 2 year journey, I cut them off while backpacking through Australia. I missed them, but wanted to do a proper job this time. So I let my hair grow for a little over a year and went to Amsterdam. Hoping that this shop new what they were doing. It was still a very old school method with a perm, wax and all the things. One thing I admit as being worth it, whas the binding of the roots. It gave the root development a boost and I started keeping my own locks maintained by reminding with tiny rubberbanden. Back then interlocking and crocheting wasn't a thing still. For 5 years I lett my locks grow and I became a proud wearer. I didn't have many (55), but they were a nice volume and they became a nice length for styles like buns and headwraps. Then unfortunately I got unfortunately got headlice. I tried everything to get rid of them, but because of me being a locktician, I became paranoid and cut them off just to make sure they were gone. I cried so hard. I was so devastated that I needed some time to recover. Around 2 years I kept my hair really short. Because off being a locktician myself I still worked on other people 's hair, but kept missing my own. I lost my identity. So in the end I decided on doing my own hair this time. After all the years that had passed I became pretty good as a locktician and started using interlocking and crochet techniques. I was very proud of my new head of locks. I've never has as many as 72. (OK no micro's) I maintained them regularly and kept them for another 10 years. The last two years of which I didn't maintain them anymore. The started free forming and I didn't really mind. Accept for the frizz. Every once in a while I started maintaining some, but always ended up not getting too the end. And so I always wore it in a bun so no one saw the lack off maintaining. Then after Covid I looked at myself in the mirror and knew that I was done. I took my hair scissors and called my mom haha. I explained to her of me, standing in front of the mirror with the scissors. She started laughing 'cause she knew what was up. I cut my hair to shoulder length this time and started combing out what was left. I never regretted the decision, and never cried. My customers never understood, but they just started their journey. Soon after, I put a tiny rubberbanden in a tiny piece of hair in the back. This one tiny tail developed into a new dreadlocks that is now 2 years old and it became my businesscard. I am still not thinking of growing them back, but it has been a great journey nevertheless, for over 25 years. ❤❤❤
