Sometimes you get caught cold by a fighter and it wasn’t your day. It knocks you back for sure when you get dropped. After the first knockdown when hit hard on the head you go Back to your fundamentals or fight or flight. Also if you are not hydrated enough when you get a head shot you have more chance of being dropped and not getting up. P.s. I’m not a pro fighter or anything, just a novice who spars sometimes. Ive beaten people who have dropped me on a day and just ruffed me up but I beat them on a day when I believed I could aswell which makes a massive difference as effects how you spar on the day. Lots of psychology on boxing out there.

Give Jack his jacket. AJ achieved a lot and laid the foundation on which many others built. Whyte wobbled him but he went on to punish him and delivered a spectacular KO. Dr Steel Hammer floored him which would have KO most heavyweights, but AJ showed grit to rise, take the fight to Klitschko and eventually stopped him. Being hurt or decked is not the issue, but showing heart and drive to rise and win most certainly is. Ruiz beat and humiliated AJ and planted doubt in his mind which he never fully eradicated. Let me tell you something. I'm 63 and still sparring 4 nights a week with 25 year olds and I feel the punches believe me. Especially on the chin. I can still take a punch but not as I once used to obviously. So I try to spar more smartly so I don't have my head in the line. Joshua's punch resistance for a heavyweight has gone but so has his ability to get his head off the line and moving his feet and no defensive skills.When all these things happen at the same time on a regular basis it's time to stop. It's not just about his lack of punch resistance is a combination of things. Any can take a punch or not take a punch. Its how your mind and body receive the punch and how you react to it. Joshua has lost the ability to react in the way he should by defensive work and he moves back in straight lines not knowing where he should be in the ring. He's done. He was never world level but manufactured in a way that we all expected him to be world level. He won the title from Charles Martin for God sake. Fought a load of older men past their sell by date, fought British fighters who are British level. Got sparked against anyone with fast hands and better ring iq. Now he's done. Will he become a stepping stone for others if he continues? Yes definitely. Who wants to see that?
