I watched Season #1 of Idol and TBH that was really the only one. I remember how much I adored Kelly. That bubbly and very likable personality that she had and the fact that she was NOT SHY whatsoever was great. She was totally the mirror image of myself. She just glowed. She was only 20 (I think) so I wasn't sure what to expect. She was wonderful though. Also, when Simon insulted her a few times I thought "Hey! He's being mean and she seems like such a great girl!". I didn't like Simon at all because of that but it seemed like she just took his insults as honest critique. It really didn't seem to bother her. He also wasn't all that impressed with her until she had performed quite a few times and I remember him saying that she finally performed a song that escalated her to the level that he needed to see and it impressed him. If I'd had been her I'm not so sure I would've handled his harshness toward her in the beginning in the same way. I would've been hurt. I think she just took it as a challenge to be better. She really hasn't seemed to have changed all that much in the last 21 years. She takes so many hits about her weight and that's not fair. She's not a model, she is a singer. Yeah sure its a plus to look super pretty too (and I've always thought she was) but... in her "thin times" OK sure...she was eye candy too but its about the singing. She was super hot in the "People like Us" video for example but it didn't make her a better singer. She also had an alter-ego nerdy counterpart in the black & white part of the video as the 'scientist'. I also remember all the girls being gaga over Justin but she was clearly the better singer. I think it was 56%/44% so she could've easily lost to Justin and while Justin might've been an awesome guy..Kelly was clearly the better singer. The tween voters liked Justin though so Kelly (who was/is also very pretty) could've easily lost! Like Simon said though "If America got it right.. the winner would be Kelly". The rest is history.

I think sonically it’s so different. That guitar chord that is the main backing is so interesting and melancholy. The melody of the chorus is like dragging feet because she’s overwhelmed. Then the tempo change in the bridge plus the melody of the bridge is just insane. I do think the production is detailed. It’s just different. No one has put out anything that sounds like this. It still hasn’t cracked the top 100 on any streaming platform. My fear is that she won’t get the commercial success that she deserves. The label isn’t pushing it. She doesn’t have a banner on Apple Music or iTunes. Even grease has a promo banner up. She deserves her flowers. It’s upsetting
