When grilling, I kindly suggest leaving some distance between items so that air flow isn't blocked. Otherwise embers may suffocate. A handheld fan makes huge difference. From time to time revitalizing the embers shortens the cooking time. Nice video and delicious meats. Have fun with your Kelly Kettle.

the newer ones come with a green cap that's safe to keep in when boiling---and actually recommended--it has a vent (that prevents catastrophic failures) and will whistle when the water boils.

It looks a bit unstable being so tall and shaking a bit while cooking esp with a heavy pan on top. Any comments on that?
@northernembersoutdoors1045
@northernembersoutdoors1045 9 ай бұрын
Yes, it's one method of cooking but I personally don't like that part because you have to use it with water and when it starts boiling it shakes, so thats why I just reheated up some food rather than cooking from scratch,much quicker, there's no need to cook like that as you can use the hobo accessory but you need to buy that as part of the kit, so cost's extra. Thanks
@neilgulati7918
@neilgulati7918 9 ай бұрын
@@northernembersoutdoors1045 thanks that's really good perspective. It sounds like it's top role is heating water but that's the main reason I'm interested in it because there's many a time you just want a hot cuppa and it looks like this thing can cook it up cheap and quick. I presume it's a good accessory just for that.

@@neilgulati7918 Hi again. There are also different sizes so this is the base camp one and you can get a smaller one called the scout, so that could be better if it's primary role is just for boiling water. I dont have the other sizes but I think the accessories on this would fit them if they are universal. the hobo accessory is what I use the most. I recently went camping with a friend and the cold made it hard for him to heat up his water using gas, I pulled the kelly kettle out and we had hot water fast, then filled up a flask too, then i took the kettle off and we had a small fire in the base. it is quite useful. cheers for commentng and watching, Chris

I am new to all of this stuff :).....since you always need to use water to cook on top of it and if you were to use water from a lake/river etc instead of using precious clean water for cooking (but not ingesting the water) how would you clean the kettle to ensure there was no lingering bacteria etc for the next time you used it to drink from?
@northernembersoutdoors1045
@northernembersoutdoors1045 Жыл бұрын
Hi Catharine. When you bring water to the boil it kills any bacteria present. Basicially if i were lost and needed to drink river or lake water I would be taking a risk by drinking it, if I had the abilty to boil it it would eliminate any risks by killing any harmful bacteria. Hope that helps, great question, many thanks, Chris
