If you've only seen Slater surf the last few years, you have no clue why he kept winning so much and is the GOAT. He would just demolish the waves and find ways over and around sections. He did this in big or small waves and always managed to find the score or blow away expectations in all conditions. It was amazing to watch.

He still does on his day, watch his pipe master/pro win in 2022!

@@ymatT601 I think he can win at pipe for a long time. I'm talking about performance surfing. He would streak across huge 10 + ft (hwn scale) Lanis like it was just head high. This was during prominance of Hawaiian heavy water surfing with names like Poncho and Sunny standardizing big gaffs under giant walls. In performance waves, he would torque turns under and through the lip with tail towards shore and land like a cat, while still flying down the line. During pipe contests that were small he would surf gums and streak through what seemed like 50yds of barrels and get pinched and not get the score but, who else could do that. He's going to rip for a while but if you never saw him in his prime, you cannot fully understand why he was so dominant.

@@ymatT601 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWXKeZ59nbOZn5I The man just evolved through the years of surfing and put it all together - from classic lines, small to big waves, radical to modern. I see JJ's and JRobo turns influenced here.
