HEAT REPLAY Corona Open Mexico presented by Quiksilver 2021 Round of 32 Kelly Slater vs Miguel Pupo
Fifteen years after one of the best events in WSL history, the Championship Tour makes its much-anticipated return to Barra De La Cruz and one of the most perfect right point breaks in the world. While the last event here was a novelty Search event, this year’s contest brings real gravity and stakes. As the second-to-last stop on the schedule, all eyes are on the WSL Final 5. Some surfers have already clinched their ticket to the World Title-deciding event at Trestles, so there are only a few precious spots left. Who will seize them?

Slater dominated that heat , way underscored or Miguel was over scored that's for sure. Kelly was original and creative lines

Kelly won, but he is underscored by the damn judges that don't want him to win. Second time he is underscored in this contest.

It's crazy to me how many amazing rides Kelly will have and if some other rider like Kanoa, Ciblic, all other Brazilians (outside of IF and GM) will score way higher doing the same thing. It's like it's too easy for Slater so he just gets scored less. Like when Andre kept doing his best move and the judges started to be like whatever, that's low score now. The robbery of Slater is preposterous. And he's still so humble about it all.

Damn, Kelly. If only he had a legit air attack he still would be contending for championships. Air performance is really the only thing that has changed in the last 30+ years( board technology, aside). He's still a Beast at Pipe though. Too good.

@@borednz2982 Legit air game( Italo, Gabriel). Not occasional air game. There is a difference. A game that could swing a heat with one wave. He doesn't have it like them. Yes he can do airs. But that is something he can't count on like other pros. You know exactly what I'm talking about.

@@borednz2982 guess what? He's in competition.😆 That's what we're talking about in this comment stream. We are not talking about free surfing here. Competition. Where it counts. Where you have to perform airs to win against others that can do the same. The ability to pull them off under pressure when you need it the most. Wow. This guy really doesn't get it?🤔 My bad. I assumed you were smart enough to figure that out.

kelly's always ahead of the game. it'll take a decade or so before judges score smooth, tasteful power with the odd beautiful carving 360 (if anyone else can do that). if the judges actually took heed to their criteria (speed/power/flow/innovation) kelly would have even more world titles no doubt.

It's insane that after all these years Slater is STILL underscored. NO ONE has as much variety, power, and flow on rail than Slater. Not even close. Unfortunately, the tour has become just hair away from an Air Show Tour, so they appear to be nudging him out. Stupid. Their viewership will go down, especially in the U.S., when he retires.

God, Slater underscored again and again and again. Does the WSL NOT want him on tour or something? No one surfs like him. Plenty of guys can launch or do newer school shit, but can they draw the lines that Kelly does with such speed, power, and flow? The judging is getting ugly these days.
