This is a look back on Kelly Tripucka's career. Kelly Tripucka was a four starter at Notre Dame where his jersey is retired. Then went on to play in the NBA where he had tremendous success in his career earning two all-star appearances.

Tripucka's Pistons years were a lot of fun and paved the way to Pistons future championships.

Tripucka never was a defensive star, and when Chuck Daily came to town that became a problem. The style of play Daily wanted, and what Kelly could deliver, never matched up. As Kelly saw his playing time evaporate, he became a locker room problem and trading him at the end of the season was an easy call for Daily. Mark Acquire was a better fit in the Piston scheme. He was as good a shooter as Tripucka, but was much more willing to play the hard hitting defense and own the sixth man roll the Pistons needed.

8:12 - For anyone who grew up hating Laimbeer, here's a treat: Bill Laimbeer getting elbowed in the face by Parish, bouncing up to start a fight, immediately getting sucker-punched in the face (again!) by Parish, and then totally backing down and giving up.

To show you where, when and how I grew up: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. Meaning, I grew up in the pre-internet days, and had mostly books to read about Kelly Tapioca. From what I was able to watch, he was a fun player to watch!

Tripucka was a legit all-star level talent, at his best. Very good scorer, could really shoot, and was big, strong and bulky while mobile. Also a solid passer. Didn’t rebound much and wasn’t all that on defense (could use his strength there but also gambled plenty), though…….

Awesome. I always remember his Charlotte basketball card when I was a kid, but have never seen one highlight of him till now. I had no idea he was that potent of a scorer or an all star.

i think Tripucka 56 pts is in 1983 season when he average his career best of 26.50 pts per game .. not in 1984

Almost 50% of nba players have a parent or sibling who is a pro athlete, D1 or national team. The number for nfl is 15%. MLB about 15%

Don’t you mean Ben stiller is a kelly Tripucka. When you come first. You are the standard. Not the second. Just like Stalin is the second Ivan IV Vasilyevich.

Being a Jazz fan, I depise Tripuka. He came to the jazz and was just a cancer, demanding a larger role on a team with Stockton and Malone. I was so glad when the jazz got rid of him.

Hahaha. Your title Brought me in. If Ben Stiller had come to fame before Tripuka he never would have lived that down. He was a great scourer. The Pistons traded him for Dantley in the late 80s which made the Pistons contenders. Unfortunately for Tripuka in Utah Karl Malone was just coming on and he was having a hard time getting minutes and he was getting along with the coach Frank Laydon.
