When the seller of the good receives the money, they turn around and spend it by paying someone else. That person then takes that money and pays someone else. That's how it works. The government here is simply another consumer that stands by and, in the middle of the exchange, takes the money from both parties, removes a certain percentage of the money from the transaction (sales tax) and allows the transfer to occur. This makes the goods effectively more expensive, and it stifles spending to a degree. Now, you say that this helps the economy grow by having this other consumer doing this. But it only does so if you think that the other person who took the money would then redistribute the money effectively back into he economy. This was the original intent, by the way, of the child tax credits etc, to redisrtibute wealth from the rich to the poor. They pay no taxes, but they get thousands.... Anyway, this would only work if there were a seamless transfer of wealth, and if the country were a closed loop economy, because those people would, in theory, spend their money for more goods, and it would benefit their neighbor. Except there isn't a seamless transfer of money between the government and individuals, as special interests collect a large part of that money, enriching corporations. Also, we trade goods and services with the rest of the world. So, while the government gives the money to the poor, thanks to free trade and trade deficits, the goods they are buying are from China and other countries, which effectively is a payment to foreign nations. Wonder why inflation is what it is? Thank the government for borrowing so much money and for people spending money on goods that are from foreign nations--enriching them and making us poorer by the year. You should get the picture by now...
