Very helpful, kelly. Good timing. I have just gotten a piece off the loom that i will be turning into a vest, and need to do exactly that to sew the two back pieces together. The explanation of why to use warp threads was quite invaluable. Thanks for all you share.

Is there any equivalent technique to join panels by the warp threads as well? Im thinking if taking a bunch of little lap loom pieces and making them into one big piece of fabric

@@madeliner1682 The thing is that you would need a way to secure/finish the warp ends to prevent unravelling, prior to joining them.

@@KellyCasanova oh yeah, I definitely do that. I could do a half damascus edge if I need to, but my favorite easy way is to literally just pull the warp ends flush to the weft and feel all the excess through until I only have two ends to hide

Marilyn, by "2 lengths" do you mean that you want to join the raw ends rather than selvedges? 🤔

It shouldn't really matter because the idea is to have the edges butting up against each other. There may be a small ridge created, depending on how tightly you pull up your stitches so if it's your first time you might want to try stitching from the "wrong side" 😊

This was really helpful! Seeing you finish it until the end gave enough for me to really get it down. Thanks, as always! If I were to skip every other warp thread, do you think the seam would still be strong enough after wet finishing? I know they "rungs" of the ladder would be wider apart and probably more visible, but it would also go faster. Curious to know your thoughts!

You could do that David, but would want to be careful about a couple of things. 1. That the extra space between stitches doesn't create lumps and bumps. 2. That the weight of the fabric (say like a blanket, which can be pretty weighty once all sewn together) doesn't drag too much on the stitches, making them vulnerable to stretching and breaking and also stretching those warp threads and distorting them 😊

Great video! If you are using the fusible cloth on weaving, should you was the fabric first? I have a cloth woolven from 8/ 2 cotton. I am concerned about shrinkage. Will the interface shrink with the cotton? Or will the cotton shrink more than the interfacing leaving the interface with unwanted texture?

My personal rule is to always wet finish/wash any fabric (that includes commercial fabric) before I sew with it. You just can't be sure of the rate of shrinkage until you've done that. Once it's completely dry, then you can progress with your fusible interfacing 😊

I can’t say I really like the way this looks. I have just recently lost my ability to knit and thought weaving might be a good substitute. I have a lot of yarn. I guess I’ll keep looking.

Remember she is using contrasting thread, also if she had used thinner thread, you hardly will see it. Don’t give up on it yet:) this will work great for scarves, shawls, types. Foe garments it’s best to sew it together and or use binders

When this happens to me I match them up as best I can (particularly if the pattern matching is important), sew the panels together and then hem at the raw edges. In the hemming process I cut off any excess to make the panels equal, ( a serger makes a quick and easy job of that) then hem.
