@@lrlavalais2068 my deepest sympathy for the loss of your son. My daughter took her life at the age of 32 in March of 2020. She was married and her husband found her in her office upstairs. But I have to disagree with comment that your son knew he didn't belong here? That really is my opinion so not true. The problem with the completed suicides is that their brain tells them that they're a burden and that they have no future and that they're in so much pain that ending in life is the only solution. I don't think my daughter ever thought she didn't belong here on Earth. Her notes to her husband or more of her as a failure which she wasn't. She was accomplished she had her Masters in nutrition she was a registered dietitian she climbed mountains in Peru she was an ice climber and a rock climber she ran marathons. Those were her most amazing times those 12 years between 20 and 32. What happened at the last year of her life only she knows that her husband said she was struggling and he never told us and she never told us. She would just make comments like oh I'm seeing a therapist for my anger or I'm so depressed because I can't find a job that was after she interned for a whole year. She started isolating herself she started overly buying things from Amazon. Her husband said she couldn't control or calm herself down when she was angry. She instigated arguments between them and she admitted that in her notes. She never once said she didn't belong here. She said she was sick and that she was in pain and it was her only solution. Do I believe suicide is preventable? Maybe with those who are impulsive and take the time to think it out and pick up the phone and call the hotline. But I've done enough reading and research on suicide for the last 2 years on people who studied it for over 30 years. And Meghan met the criteria for someone who crosses the line between being a burden and Having the courage to face death. She planned it she researched it you bought what she needed and she was prepared 3 months in advance. I'm sorry this is turning out to be so long but I wish at Christmas time I could remember every moment with her but it was a bunch of people and she sat next to me she put my necklace on the kids bought for me she was sweet and peaceful and she had already knew that she had a way to end her life. She waited until her brother came home from France and March of 2020 and her father came back from a cruise. She called me and then two days later her husband found her. And as I am sure everyone who has had a child die from suicide or suddenly from any sort of incident you look in the mirror and you don't even know who you are anymore. You will never be who you were. Again so sorry this is long

He is one who "beat himself up" but learned to deal with things in a "healthy way". The words he describes seems while he has gone through tough times, he has been able to heal. He is quite rich because of the support and love he has received from his community.

Me too. My youngest daughter took her life March 25th 2020 at the home she shared with her husband. He found her and was out of the blue. Its painful, devastating, and to see her older siblings struggling with the same thing, why did we miss it, why didnt she say something..the list goes on and on and on... I wish her husband had said something to us, she was 32. And was determined to leave this world.

My daughter was 32 as well. She died June 2016 of mental health issues caused by drug addiction. She refused help but that does not stop me from missing her every day. My heart is still broken 💔
@202triciae2 жыл бұрын
@@rubyhopper6751 of course, there is no shame in drug addiction and the mental pain it causes the addict and the family. Drug addiction changes the brain and decision making. Funny thing is my daughter was a heroin addict from age 19 to 21, and had overdosed countless times because she hated herself n her addiction and that it burdened our family, we did not enable her, we were always there any time she was ready, they have to be ready, and one day in 2009 she called me from a shelter in Paterson NJ and said mom please bring me to ARC in Syracuse which is a 7 hour drive. We made a deal you sign the title of your car to you dad , she lived in that car, and I drove her there the next day, it's free room and board, Christian based program for recovering addicts but it was 7 months, she was free to leave anytime, but she stuck it out , turned her entire life around, it also was a full time work program, bible study, church every Sunday and NA meetings and a personal counselor, cost her and us nothing but they are extremely regimented but fair and caring. She graduated may 2010 , she was fit, tanned and her teeth looked amazing, all her medical was taken care of thru Medicaid, and they had a gym, so she worked out everyday, they set her up in sober living house here in a beautiful home in NJ , 500 a month, got a job, she got her car back, stayed there for another 8 months...became a born again Christian and was in total recovery for the rest of her life. Had her Masters in nutrition, was a board certified registered dietitian, had a loving husband of 3 years, rock and ice climbed, went to Peru, Africa, ran the philly marathon, she was amazing. Yet it obviously was covering up the pain and depression that the drugs used to do, but now she was addicted to constantly going at full speed. Refused to tell a therapist she did not want to take any drugs, she completed her suicide by ingestion of a life ending substance as told to us by the medical examiner. If she had died at 21 I would have believed it, but not when she worked so hard to get to where she was.....she I think had BPD. She had all the 9 criteria. She may have had it during her drug years and we thought her behavior was the drugs...obviously it wasn't. My condolences to you, I know your pain, heartbreak and sadness that will always be with us, Meghan is at peace and hopefully playing with our dog sammy who died at age 17 in 2021 she loved him. ❤❤❤❤❤❤💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

The thing he said about the guilt...is so painfully relatable. I lost both my parents by the time I was 26, I lost my mom in 1999 and my dad in 2020. and with my dad, he was diagnosed with inoperable and terminal cancer and given 3 to 6 months. he made it 6. but I couldn't talk about it with him, I didn't want to cry in front of him. Thankfully, I had expressed how much love and appreciation I had for him multiple times before he got diagnosed with cancer so I know he knew how I felt about him. but I still feel an intense amount of guilt that I couldn't have that conversation with him one more time before he left this earth. If I could do it over again, I'd cry and cry with him and reminisce and comfort him and I wouldn't care about looking so tough because that wasn't tough. That was cowardly of me. I know that sounds like a pretty harsh critique but I know it to be the truth, it doesn't matter how anyone else feels about it because they wouldn't know. I'm thankful my grandmother was still here to be the shoulder for her oldest son, but I hate that she had to go through that pain. I got to hold his hand as he passed away and I sat with him alone for almost an hour crying after they declared time of death at 9:23pm on January 19, 2020. They say the goal for any man should be to be the strongest man at their fathers funeral. And I was, I gave a fantastic speech that had everybody laughing then crying then standing and applauding. We gave the mic to anyone who wanted to speak and all of his high school best friends broke down telling stories, some if me and my brothers friends even spoke and hell even my dead mothers ex husband and father of my older sister got up and sang his praises for my dad for treating her like his own kid. I patted people on the back, I told them how much he cared for them and I smiled. I do not regret that at all. I just wish I had the wisdom to know it was all an act that I was making myself believe. because the grief didn't hit me until a full year later and I haven't been able to cope very well since. Now, my dad's mother is dying and I've been fighting having this conversation yet again with her. But no more, I'm going to visit her at the home tomorrow and I'm not leaving anything left unsaid. I can't let her leave this world without that conversation and some words to take with her to her beloved son, my father

Very touching, the guilt after being strong is the hard part. I lost my husband in a logging accident on the job when I was 25 and our daughter was 3, I left so many things unsaid. I am sorry for what you are feeling now, but I just know your Dad is looking down on you and is very proud of you, he knows your heart.

I just lost my mom to Cancer almost two weeks ago July 27th 2:32AM. When you hold a parent’s hand as they go off to heaven, it’s so tough. I remember walking outside to call family and my legs went completely numb and I fell to my knees just thinking about how I’ll never be able to speak or spend time with my mom anymore. That morning when I got home I prayed for her and tried to get some sleep but I was up until 8AM just holding her blanket tight and crying looking at one of her pictures. It still doesn’t feel real, almost like I can just go and see her anytime I’m just choosing not to. When you keep reliving that final chest rise as their body gasps for air, its like PTSD. You think about your loved ones in such a different light when you lose someone so close to you. I think about her every single day, and I do my best to honor and pray for her. I hope you keep their memories close and do your best to honor your parents as well.

I helped my mom plan my funeral a few years ago because I was given 12 to 18 month fighting two primary cancers squamous cell carcinoma that spread to my bones and (terminal)and endometrial cancer. I tried to take as much pressure off my mom as possible and I wanted a natural burial myself. I was blessed to beat my cancers especially the terminal cancer even though I'm still at home and in bed most days. I'm also blessed for that time roughly 4 years to spend with my mom day and night even though it was some really dark, very painful days because having my mom was the only thing I needed besides God. I got saved again and babtized. Don't wait too long because we're not guaranteed tomorrow and eternity is forever. God bless.

I definitely get what Chris was saying about how the burial was bittersweet in that it was sad but also cathartic, because that's how I felt being with my grandma when she died in the hospital. Holding her hand as she drifted off was other-worldly and I was very glad to be there to know that she died peacefully, it made death seem more humane in a way I guess. I hope his daughter was able to pass peacefully and that she has found peace in eternal rest, and that his family can find healing with such tragedy. I struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts but the thought of how it would wreck my family always stops me before it gets to that point.

I love the burial concept. Very personal and it reminds me of what people would do centuries ago. I know it's not a snap of a finger fix but I wish people young and old would feel they could reach out to family, friends, counselors, anyone for help before suicide thoughts take over. Many different reasons and It's often hidden. Breaks my heart. ❤️

This breaks my heart. When I was 17 I lost my mother to anorexia. And even though it wasn’t suicide, my mother did slowly kill herself. For many many years I carried the guild. What if I had done this, what if I had said that… But then last year I read my mothers journal from her last hospital stay, and it was a huge relief, even though it was rough and heartbreaking. But I finally realized that there was absolutely nothing I could have done. She was too sick to be saved. I’ve tried my best to live a life that would make her proud. I’ve worked my way through depression, anxiety, self destructive behavior and an eating disorder. On the other side of my mental disorders, I have created a beautiful life. I got my dog, met the love of my life, got my bachelors degree and got a beautiful daughter. I’m now engaged and expecting our son and working as a social educator. I couldn’t save my mother, but all I can do now is to be happy, work hard and make her proud.

My heart is heavy for him and anybody else dealing with mental illness. Or the collateral damage of it. My mom committed suicide when I was 19 back in 2011. The guilt is very real. Aside from the things I could've done better or the times I could've handled myself better. The ongoing "I didn't appreciate my mom until she was gone" kinda thing is very present. Her taking her own life could've left me hateful and all that. Fortunately for me, I was hateful up to the moment she died. It humbled me through and through and taught me to be kind and appreciative and it taught me that nobody is here forever and nobody is expendable. Time is the only thing we don't get back. Yet "free" time is something we so willingly give away. I love you Kelly. Your music got me through some of the hardest times of my life and are still on my present day Playlist.
