@@BloodSweatandFearsIt depends on the surgery. Implants can be removed. Permanent fillers can be dissolved. Short-term fillers simply go away. But there are side effects like saggy skin where there was filler or implants. Permanent filler moves around with time. Leakage, toxicity, etc... People may have to have other surgical and non-surgical procedures performed in order to fix the former or to stay on trend. It's ridiculous and exhausting.

Exactly. And it applies to fast fashion as well, now this shirt is out of fashion toss it and buy this . And with slow fashion where everyone wants to were classic all the time in neutrals and 2 accent colours . Some people love colours and Avant Garde others love colours and romantic, or neutral with one or the other style . The illusion of classic and oval or trendy and whatever the results of cosmetic surgery is for them not us . For us it is wear what you love with your feminine intuition and beauty instinct and do what makes you feel balanced regarding makeup, yours not the perfect symmetrical ideal . I miss 2016 makeup: color, glam, etc. All the creators were unique, and the makeup shops (Sephora and Morphe, especially) were so cutting edge in what they did. Maybe we’re thinking of different trends but I remember feeling frustrated with 2016 glam make up. Every single look ended up looking the same - same glittery brown and beige colors, cut crease and fake eyelashes. Lots of baking. I remember feeling the exact same way I do now - everyone looked the same. But that’s kind of the issue with trends I guess. A trend is something most people follow so it may start off fun and fresh, but can quickly become too much

We had to have contour, bronzer, blush, mascara, primer, pore filler, foundation, baking powder, concealer, brow products, highlighter, eyeshadow, plus a million brushes to put it all on. Not to mention every tutorial being so filtered that you couldn’t tell how it looked in natural lighting. Most 2016 makeup looked good in pictures, not in person. I’m grateful we have influencers today who actually show you how products look in person.

Jen Phelps talked about this in a recent video. She put bronzer across her nose and cheeks to mimic what the sun would do and said it doesn't make sense to put it in the hollows of the cheeks like everyone does on social media. She also kept her blush above her nose and it changed her entire look. It looked so good on her and balanced out her more oblong face. And on the other hand, boyfriend blush placement looks so good on you and your face shape/features. It's sad that everyone just follows the trends and doesn't do what looks good on their individual face.

For my first consultation the doctor asked me to bring pictures of myself at younger ages up until now, not celebrities I wanted to emulate. I thought it was weird. It’s because she wants me to look like the best version of myself, not everyone else. I love that approach and am so happy with my results. The problem is that a lot of celebs use the same surgeons, dermatologists and aestheticians that push the same procedures because they’re both popular and expensive, hence more money they make off pushing their services. The believe beauty is a formula, it’s about blending in and being associated with people of a certain status and lifestyle. Also, it’s funny because a lot of Bridgerton fans were commenting about Luke (who plays Colin) looking like he was on ozempic which being skinny during regency era (historically) meant that you were eating a restricted diet and was common for the poor, and now we associate being skinny/lean with being rich.

My go to colors are pink and purple and I tend to go for either heavy blush or focus on the eyes. I also tend to do 1 color (shimmer, glitter and/or matte) but that’s because my blending is bad lol.

In all this rush to be first using the latest 'trend', I think people have forgotten that make-up was invented to make us look better....so it really looks best to place it where it suits your face, colours that suit your skintone, and styles that suit what you are doing (we use different make-up colour, style, levels of layers, etc depending on if we are going to work, going out shopping, going to a party, going to a wedding, etc....)

I don't think this style dragged your face down at all! It just gives a very cute and youthful vibe, like Japanese makeup styles. Personally I try to work with my features regardless of trends, and since I have a fuller eyelid (not really hooded but I don't have that gigantic concave eyelid space), I've been doing my eyeliner 'downturned' for the longest time lol I'm a bit insecure about my eyelid space since I grew up in the 2010s where my eyeshape wasn't ''made for makeup'' and I even considered getting a brow lift because of that but recently I found out that freaking Audrey Hepburn has a similar eye configuration! That made me feel so much better!

carrie bradshaw is also such a good example to use for doing makeup techniques for YOUR features. the first thing i noticed is she have very prominent cheekbones and cheeks on the hollow side so blush placed higher up would really emphasize that feature. the boyfriend blush looks so good on round faces because it emphasizes and thus complements the roundness so well. i think you’re right on the money in saying that we should be emphasizing all our own individuality and uniqueness instead of trying to alter our features to fit one mold

I love this video so much! I've always loved blush on the apples of my cheeks. But the trend is so against emphasizing plumpness in the front of the face because "I have to lift." I've caught myself holding back on blush placement because of what it will look like to others, and it makes me sad thinking about it. I'm happy to see this conversation being had because beauty has never been one-dimensional. Seeing other women embrace themselves and not fall into the trends of staying youthful has inspired me to look at myself in a new light. Being 30 doesn't make me old, and if my face starts to sag and wrinkles start to show, I can also find the beauty in that. There's beauty in all stages of life. We should stop living in denial and embrace what makes us unique.

New to your channel as it was recommended by Jen, loved the discussion today. I am older (73) and I remember the days when women would try to make certain features stand out vs all being the same. Makes me want to try different blush placement and explore my eyebrows they’re horrible 😮 and realize I have to rethink shape and look 👀 Thanks ❤

I love the idea of emphasizing natural parts of us. The first time I heard someone talk about it was when I saw a video from Jenny Mustard saying she wanted to emphasize her broad shoulders with boxy blazers or shoulder pads. It was a very novel idea to me to not want to « correct » a part of my body. I’m not against emphasizing the roundness of my face now! And I love that you embrace your features as they are, it also makes me want to embrace mine, as I also have lips on the thinner side, with a very pronounced cupids bow.

Your make up looked great! I have a major issue that I'd like you to address. Why is a tan considered healthy looking? We are spending billions on fake tanning products yet we've been taught not to judge a person based on skin color. Shouldn't that apply to ourselves? I'm very fair, ok, strawberry blonde with freckles, but I get asked if I've ever tried a tanning bed quite frequently. Just as smoking was associated with being cool, having a tan is supposed to be better/healthier looking than white skin. Why? Real tanning leads to skin cancer. Why do we have to subscribe to such an outdated standard view of beauty? In previous times, tanning meant you were common and had to work outside. Carrying an umbrella to avoid exposure to the sun was quite accepted. Who sets these so called standards and how can we get them stopped. Natural tanning is as unhealthy as smoking! We were not encouraged to smoke fake cigarettes? So why are we encouraging fake tans?
@Isabel-lb9fg
@Isabel-lb9fg 19 күн бұрын
I've read that it started when rich people started taking vacations to warmer places and then the idea of summer vacations trickling down to the middle class. So tans for white people became associated not with working out in the fields, but instead status and leisure. And now with desk jobs and screens, I think even when it's fake it might give the illusion of someone who spends time outside, working out (since tans also emphasize muscle a lil more) And then I think the ig face makeup is pretty intense and looks more blended on tan/medium skin. But totally agree that more diversity should be celebrated- Nicola Coughlin bas super fair skin and it's beautiful!

Tan skin is perceived as being healthy because, typically, people who do a lot of outdoor activities have tans. People equate outdoor activities with physical health and or wealth. For example, if you've spent time in San Tropez, you'll typically have a beautiful bronze glow because you've been outside enjoying the weather and the lovely activities. Still, if you are an office worker, you will appear paler, which points out your status. It is true that in East Asian and other cultures where people are darker naturally, people don't want to be tan because they don't want to perceived as field workers.I lived in Thailand for two years, and every time I went in for a massage, they asked me if I wanted a skin-lightening treatments.

It's funny how much I can believe (subconsciously) I'm not being sucked into beauty trends...only to realize while watching you, "oh yea, I do my makeup ENTIRELY the recommend "lifting" way". Thank you for this, it’s so easy to get caught up in trends and also to be sold on the idea that there’s a best face out there we should all be aiming for, when in reality everyone I know in my own life looks different from this and are still happy and quite beautiful. If we’re happy with what we have and who we are we don’t buy as much, and that’s bad for the shareholders but good for the rest of us that would profit more from being content and not feeling like we’re missing out on looking like a media star 💫

I don't usually comment but this video was such an eyeopener for me! I love the way you talk about the subject and I honestly LOVE the way your makeup turned out, especially comparing it to another makeup look you've done! It really emphasizes your features and I will definitely start playing around more with my makeup. Thank you so much for highlighting this, it's so important especially since I believe most beauty trends, and always trying to reach a certain "face-look", is very damaging to peoples selfe image, particularly for children.

I feel like you look more fresh-faced ("younger") with this style than the other pic you put up for comparison. I really like this one. I agree with your thoughts of everyone looking the same. I found out some years ago that less is more for me. Every time i tried to match the style everyone else was doing of extremely glam, I thought I looked like a drag-queen, lol. So yeah, I like to play with makeup, but at the end of the day a more calm glam works best for me, or even the more natural/less is more look. 💚

Kelly, I've always liked that you kept your lips with your pointed Cupid bow and never did a lot of over lining. once I heard you say your skin is naturally dry so you still like powder and going slightly matte. I also like that you don't overdraw/reshape your brows. I love your slightly downturned eyes, they are absolutely gorgeous. I've always been impressed that you stay on top of trends and keep up with things, but you don't completely change your features, and therefore you look like you! 😍

It’s interesting what you were saying about lifting the face and how that relates with the illusion of age, because I feel like it’s now almost the opposite - where someone who lifts their face too much through makeup/filler/surgery may actually end up looking older, as previously it was an older demographic who sought to affect their appearance like that. An overly-exaggerated lifting effect makes it seem like the person is TRYING to compensate or ‘look young’, which may only end up having the opposite effect, if that makes sense?

This was such a thoughtful provoking video topic because a previous video by the channel UnBlah Yourself touched base on unique makeup is gone. (Or something similar) That really made me more aware of how much has changed regarding beauty, beauty trends, and overall makeup products. There is no uniqueness, there is no being different anymore, there is no more of us as individuals we are all turning into look-a-like robots. It's shameful how we can't appreciate each other's features as they are and embrace them as such.

I love the finished look! Im so tired of all these trends in makeup and fashion. It's all part of consumerism and overconsumption. I predict that once everyone gets tired of the snatched look we'll swing in the opposite direction into a "cuter" look. All trends are a reaction to the previous trends at this point lol. In an ideal world, we would be able to look up our different features and learn how to emphasize or deemphasize them instead of trying to make everyone look the same.
