Steve was rated #70 on Rolling Stones' Top 100 Guitarists.... number 69 was Jerry Miller (in Moby Grape).... he's from Tacoma. Have played with him many times for 30 years. (Eric Clapton's favorite guitarist) But it's so funny that Steve Howe (my fave)... is "below" Jerry. I told him that... and Jerry just laughed. "Yeah, some like some... and others like others".

Steve Howe was voted best rock guitar player 5 years in a row by "Guitar Player Magazine", and when you consider David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and many others are all in the running, that is an amazing feat. I think Guitar Player Magazine is the ultimate judge of guitar players, since most everyone that voted was a guitar player themselves, and hence, it was not just a popularity contest.

Kel N Rich, you made my night. This song by YES is what made me the person I am today. I was in the choir when this came out. It struck a chord within my soul that I picked up a guitar and learned to play this very song for the first time. When other people heard me play this and a few Beatles tunes, my musical career began to take off in the Southern Rock era. If I was in a coma, and someone played this tune for me; I would awaken from my deep slumber. Thanks guys. :-)

So wonderful watching Kel enjoy this! I was raised in a classical/choral family. Just out of HS 1978, I visited an old tennis team buddy in South Pasadena on a cul de sac way up in a canyon. Ronnie rolled 5ft. high Klipsch speakers out onto the patio & blasted this song for the whole neighborhood. It was surreal!

The first time I heard this band was in high school ,a friend of mine had the best stereo system you could have at the time in a car.Jenson 3-ways thru a kenwood system. We smoked a doobie and he said check this out and I could not move. I was mezmerized and paralized at the same time. Thank you for taking me back to the days when music was fantastic and pot was enjoyable but did not completely kick your backside.Circa 1976?The album cover from the one I was exposed to was a green photo with the band and a maniquin head kinda floating between them.This brought back memories of high school friends past, I have tears running down my face. brought up some good memories as well as a few sorrows. When this song first came out, the top 40 radio stations only played the first part of the song. I loved it as it was until I heard the WHOLE song on FM radio. Then I was completely blown away and, right there, became a Yes fan for life.

I have been a yes fan since they came on the scene in 1972, I saw a legendary performance of this song at the LA Forum when the stage was set up to be a chess board. Every down beat of the base the band would move onto a new square on the floor! Black squares and Neon Green squares that would pulse with every beat as they moved. UNREAL. Great reaction Kell. ternana foscoli - And they also didn’t utilize Roger Dean’s talents until Fragile. So maybe they should have used the original artwork that went with The Yes Album. Not as important as the correct personnel but I remember experiencing this album with the original artwork and it had its own vibe that went with the music. This Album was a lot Chunkier especially with Steve Howe’s guitar approach on this record... It also being his first Yes record. I know he just grabbed a greatest hits type compilation that probably contains this song but to me showing newbies the original artwork is somewhat important. They’re less likely to be confused about the personnel when they can read the credits on the physical album.

I saw YES back in the 1980s at Reunion Arena in Dallas. The band Berlin was supposed to be the opening act but they broke up during that tour. So instead of Berlin they showed a couple of Bugs Bunny cartoons on a big screen. It was great.

Ok, this is the first time I've ever heard that first part. Awesome! First time I heard this song, it was on a VHS tape of "MTV's closet classics". It had The Grateful Dead (One More Saturday Night) Black Sabbath (Paranoid) and Cream (Sunshine of your Love) among others.

I really enjoy seeing Kel's innocent, unbridled joy, when she's really enjoying something for the first time. It makes me appreciate this music that I've had with me for decades, that much more! The Yes Album is pure gold, start to finish! "Yours Is No Disgrace" "Clap" (she would love Howe stretching out on this piece!!) and "Starship Trooper" are essential Yes tunes for me. Jon Anderson is the brother of Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, I know you've done some of that. Chris Squire is a phenomenal bass player, and made me see and think of the bass as so much more than a background rhythm instrument! Chris played "Lead Bass" and really carries the melodies in so much of their material. Seeing them live on the "Close to the Edge" tour is still a highlight in my musical life. A little "unknown" band, at the time, opened for them.......The Eagles! Strange bedfellows indeed!
