I have to tell you that a couple years ago I got interested in doing water color. I followed this tutorial and copied the image of this girl that you taught. A couple years before this I became great friends with my neighbor. My husband was working a ton and she was a single mom so our relationship grew into more of a co-parenting relationship with our combined 7 children. Her 3 girls and my 4 boys. For a while I had the kids do water color with me. The youngest girl discovered her love for art and was always drawing after that. She was 6 at the time. A couple months ago the girls were traveling with their dad and got in a car accident and all 3 girls passed away. I found the water color image I made and realized the version I did resembled the oldest girl. It was also special to me because I made that image while I was with them. It inspired me to make a water color image for the other 2 girls. I put it on a 4”x 4” canvas and glued the dried flowers from their funeral to make up their clothing, bouquets, and put a flower in their hair and then I gave the canvases to their mom. Such a small and simple thing, but it was a ripple effect of you sharing your talent.

I started studying art a few years ago and got so frustrated because I hated the way I was being taught so I gave up and I haven't picked up a brush since then (except from makeup brushes, I'm a makeup artist lol). It was my dream for a big part of my life to be an artist, and I guess I am in a different way, but It still makes me so sad when I think about how something I loved so so much suddenly got asociated to a negative feeling in my mind... I've tried to retake it so many times and failed, I never felt inspired enough.. And your video just made me really wanna try again and be creative so thank you so much, I'm gonna get some paper and find my old watercolor palette and start creating again :) Thank you so much, this video really made a difference to me

I guess you have figured it out, since your comment is 1 year old, but I'll say it anyways: It's a matter of the paper you're using. Special watercolour paper doesn't absorb the water too quickly, so you have a tiny bit more time to work with it.

This is super late but anyway, you don't need many brushes. Just make sure they have enough snap (they keep their shape better idk how to explain it but there are yt videos on snap of brushes) and get maybe one super thin, one medium and one bigger round brush. Obv it depends on what you want to paint but those 3 should suffice for most things. Maybe get one flat brsuh too for harsh edges.

This cheerful and relaxed approach was just the little push I needed to actually pick up one of my brand-new brushes and finally begin on my own path with this medium that has fascinated me since the day as a child when I used the only materials at hand. I employed a piece of slick card stock paper from a package of silk stockings, diluted food coloring and blended colors, a wooden toothpick, and a Q-tip to paint a rainbow trout. It was the best result, surprisingly enough and my mother could barely believe I'd done it with those supplies. Now 72 years later, I'll try to do it 'right.' Thanks for this video and your enthusiasm.

This is actually really helpful, even for such a simple video. I've been using a lot more watercolors than before lately. Once I thought I would use it for my drawing because I was sure the effect watercolors create would be the best and it reminded me how much of a fun it is (before that, I hadn't been using watercolors for years actually), so I am willing to learn more about them. Thank you for helping :)

Thank you so much for making these tutorial videos! I got a tutorial book for watercolor recently and it assumed people already knew these techniques, and were using tube watercolor. I use a pallete of watercolor paints and felt like I was missing so many steps! I also love how inclusive this is of any budget or type of watercolor paint, it doesn't assume only some paints/papers are being used by us.

this was a great intro to watercolors! I've been trying to start for a long time but can rarely get the motivation to do it...but this made it seem so...not easy, but not-pressured? Idk if that makes sense, but anyway, I think I'll give it another go :)

You need to use watercolor paper ... the thicker the paper the better!
@user-jk1lb5cg1z7 жыл бұрын
You don't necessarily need watercolor paper, if you use regular sketch paper it will more than likely warp, but you can always correct it by pressing it between heavy books. While pressing it won't exactly get every single warp out of your paper, it works well enough for display. Also, if you're working with thinner or even sketch paper, be mindful of the amount of layers you're applying. Make sure not to overwork your paper and you'll be alright. When I don't have access to watercolor paper, I'll use sketch paper and sometimes I'll put a thin layer of water over the entire sheet and then let it warp, etc. I'll press it for about a day then come back and apply the actual painting. Make sure your paper is completely dry before you apply another layer of paint just to make sure your paper stays intact. ! (Edit) Like the video said, watercolor is all about experimenting, so have fun, test all sorts of papers. Hope I could help!

You are an amazing artist! My daughter is 14 and she loves to paint. I get her canvases and water color paper to help her along. She was so discouraged because she really enjoys it and I really think she is great at it. Some kid at school told her she should do something else because she sucked at art and wasn't good enough to be an artist and that little turd hurt her feelings and she stopped painting because she thought she was no good. We all know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but she really is great at it! have no problem with her art hanging anywhere in my home.

No way. You can do this. Like he says, you just need to practice and experiment. The good thing about watercolors is how easy it is to hide the evidence of your less-than-masterful experiments. It's a bit harder to trash your huge canvas without people seeing it in your garbage can.

want to say something. In theory,when you use watercolor you need start at the light color then dark color like you need draw skin firt when your hair is black, but if the skin is blue and hair is gray you need color hair first, because dark color can cover light color. but people aways color skin first (XD ........ just want t say st (in my memory people aways do that)
