A 1000 round review of the Keltec P15 Metal chambered in 9mm. I was fairly impressed with the gun in my initial review. Did it live up to the intial promise? This is a rather lengthy video, despite editing it for time; however, I wanted to be as thorough and transparent as possible with this review.

Well it wouldn't be a Keltec if it didn't come to market with some issues. Maybe in a few months to a couple of years newly manufactured P15s will be good to go. Thank you for your research and experience.

@@Preacher357 Keltec should know better about those screws. Keltec is innovative but the guns have to work. Their designs are severely flawed as you have just demonstrated and that is why I stay away from them. Loose permanent screws, faulty springs and parts, excessive wear, lack of durability, and so on. 1000 rounds is not a lot for a pistol to have excessive wear and durability problems. Those screws should be permanently affixed since they only act as hardware for the frame unlike other guns that require screws to be removed for maintenance. Some Heritage and Taurus revolvers have screws that come loose also but those screws can be thread locked since they are maintenance screws. Looks like you got a nasty case of slide bite on your hand. Thanks for sharing.
@Preacher357
@Preacher357 3 ай бұрын
@@rbm6184 The slide bite was from a Taurus TS9. I really liked the gun, but the way the slide was designed, if you got your hand up too high it would get you. I closed the slide and it pulled my skin up into the frame with it. I had to open the slide to get my hand back out.

Good video especially for troubleshooting problems. I’ve never been a Keltec fan but to each their own.

Great reviews. This one and the first one. I have the polymer or alloy version and I like mine a lot. I’m at over 500 rounds and it’s had the magazine issue pushing out the assembly pin just slightly enough on the last round, but those same magazines worked flawlessly in my p-11 by Kel-Tec, so I keep them around but separate. The 12 rounders are the jam, though, which makes me think it’s the mag extension creating all the problems on some of the 15s. I gotta keep an eye on my screws. No problems so far, but we’ll see in the next 500 rounds what’ll happen. Anyways, I like the fact that you reviewed the Kel-Tec thoroughly and formed your own opinion.

I’m amazed that so many gun reviewers don’t understand that concept of maintenance. If you bought a motorcycle or car after a short break in period you would have it serviced. Lubed tighten clean and return to specs. Why would you expect to run hundreds of rounds and not service your firearm? I have a couple of keltec’s with over 5000 rounds, still going, and I have an expensive handgun that I’m still waiting on parts for. Not the firearms fault, it’s the operator.
@Preacher357
@Preacher357 24 күн бұрын
@@Mike-i6n What would make you think I don't appreciate the need for maintenance? I generally clean my guns after every range session. However, a quality firearm should be able to run a decent amount of rounds without being cleaned without failure. If a gun cannot even make it through one range session, which can easily be as much as 600 or 700 rounds sometimes, without needing to be cleaned, then that is an issue that people probably will want to know about. If you are someone that never shoots very much it won't matter; however, if you are someone that regularly shoots and trains with a firearm then it will make a difference. Granted, when we review guns, we often are putting more rounds down range than a normal person, but that is what testing is about. We are trying to find what the limits of the gun are.

The only other pistol I found worse than this, is the Canik METE9, recoil spring broke after only 130 rounds. Got a new spring from Armscor and ditched it. The p15 was my first and last Kel Tec. When I got it last year I only put 100 rounds through it, the barrel looked like it had been shot over 10,000 times, no finish remained. All screws were falling out and constantly needed put in (by the way loctite does absolutely nothing) slide was also tearing out chunks of metal from the frame. Kel-Tec and Canik are on my never buy lists.

I have never had an issue with any of the Caniks I have tested, even the Mete MC9. They have all worked great for me. The Keltec P17 22lr was also surprisingly good. This one had a lot of issues though.

That screw is not present on the polymer version At 10:30 I hope that isn't as tight as you say you are tightening those screws. I recommend calling keltec to send in you gun for the new striker design, feed polish, and what ever else little fixes they've been doing. My P15 polymer has been in twice for non-critical issues (front sight moving and rear safety not disengaged while selector is in no safety mode) They did more things than what I sent it for. I have ~500 rounds through it. 400 ball, 70 hollow, and 30 P+ hollow. I've only had a failure to feed on the 12 round mag, which I won't be carrying. Thanks for the video of the P15

The screws were loosening up every time you shot it. I might not have yet snugged it bagged up at that point. That part was recorded while I was out on the range shooting.

Its a shame how many problems this gun has. Was really considering purchasing this one after I found the metal/wood grips variant, most other pistols in the $500 range are made of polymer. Really disappointing

Actually I’m I’m a retired Marine, a security officer at a nuclear facility, I teach marksmanship and I shoot competitively. I shoot appropriately 1000 rounds a week. About 2/3 of that is rimfire. I have a 3,000 $ colt that I’m waiting on a new ejector rod for because the screw backed out. By your logic I should blame the gun. I have a keltec’s with 5000 rounds through it running strong because I locktighted the screws.

Great Video, think I'm going to have to pass, I have a PF9 and it acts the same, you never know what you're going to get, I have 2 Sub2ks that so far have been 100% maybe cause they take Glock mags. 😆 Kel-Tec reminds me of the Remington R51, You really want it to be 100%, But you just can't trust it 100% -I wish Kel-Tec would get it together, they have some innovative ideas, but it's like they throw it out there and let the buyers find the problems that need fixing, I was really hoping this would be one worth buying.

Do you think that 9mm is much for this gun? Being as light as it is, maybe that is one reason for the screws backing. What would you think about this in .380 instead?
@Preacher357
@Preacher357 3 ай бұрын
I think that the gun is able to handle the recoil, but should have been designed without all of the screws. Roll pins would have been a much better option. I think there is a reason hardly any modern handguns use screws in the frame. As for 380, I think this gun would be great in that caliber. It would be a great option for those that don't like the recoil of the 9mm in this light of a package.
