The way people are horrified by assisted suicide confuses me. Most people say that it would be cruel to keep a pet alive when they're in obvious pain, but a lot of these people are horrified by the thought of offering the same courtesy to humans. The only real difference is you can talk to a human and verify that they really do consent, where with animals we ultimately have to make an educated guess about what they'd want. While I think we can make a pretty good guess as to which an animal would prefer, forcing a human who is in pain, will always be in pain, and is begging for death to continue to live is obviously inhumane.

PixieoftheWood Agreed. Surely one of the most fundamental human rights of all is to have control over how and when your life ends.
@thecraftycyborg90246 жыл бұрын
None of the people I’ve met who are horrified by the idea have never personally had stage 4 cancer or a severe permanent, painful, and/or progressive disability. The people with those circumstances tend to be more supportive of assisted suicide. I’ve had to make the call to have a pet put down and I’m glad that option existed. The sister of my soul died 2 days ago after years of horrible suffering. Her last year in particular got so bad *I* wasn’t even allowed to visit the last 6 months- no one was, as any noise in the room started off uncontrollable pain and dystonia (extreme muscle spasm). I miss her with agonizing sorrow. I keep crying. But I’m also glad her pain has ended. She will return to being stardust, as we are meant to when our days are over. She touched a lot of lives in her 26 years and I will forever be a better person for having had her in my life.

I’m convinced that at heart the need that Ham’s followers and others like them is not a need for a solution to “sin” but a need for a solution to death. They fear death and so reach to Christianity for a way out (which Christianity offers-just believe enough, no questioning or you might actually die, but believe enough and you live forever). All the rest flows from that fundamental issue. “If others believe in evolution I might be convinced, too. And if I start to think that evolution might be true I might question the Bible. But if I question the Bible...”

I and my sister spent two years in a Christian school that used Pacific Accelerated Christian Education material (PACE). Horrible results on both of us. Even in the early 70's they were screaming about communist and secular humanist degrading education in public schools. My father pulled us out because he saw what was happening to us, my mother, good Christian that she was, lied about why we were pulled out. Anyway, Satanic influence was only marginally acknowledged until the late 70's when that and Bigfoot and UFO' really hit the scene. Watching this episode brought back those fond memories. I also like the use of The Python clips. Very apropos!

Unfortunately, very few people reach the same level of classes I’ve had the opportunity to take. I don’t mean to sound pretentious, I’m just saying that few people take Calculus and if they don’t get a good teacher who teaches them to think for themselvesat a younger age, they’ll never see it unless they find it themselves.
