Verne’s training camp demonstrates how pro rasslin was a closed shop. You had to be asked to train and vouched for. I grew up in Tampa, in the 70s. The Grahams, Briscoes, Funks, Roop & Matsuda were always beating the crap out of wannabe rasslers. Hogan was invited by Matsuda to train in Tampa, and still Matsuda broke HH’s leg.
