I'm grateful to have viewed this video. I was stationed at Ft. Bening in '89. I'm from Wisconsin. I've ALWAYS been a huge rasslin' fan. I befriended a young Christian man who worked at that McDonalds on that night. And yes he told me that KP DID pick up that rock and throw it thru the drive-up window. I don't remember his name. He had no reason to lie to me though. I miss him. He was one of those "Born Again" Christians who renounced secular music. He was a huge rock fan and he knew I lived for R n R. He was forbidden to listen to it anymore, yet he still would ask me about updates on the then-current rock stars. I miss him. He had the biggest smile and I can't think of a single negative comment towards him.

The version of the story I heard back in the day was: 1) Ken was drunk. They were shooting a TV commerical at the mcdonalds at the time and that is why they wouldn't serve him. The burgers they wouldn't serve him were not end-of-shift burgers. They were prop burgers for the shoot. 2) Ken threw something really big through the window. It disrupted the commercial shoot and the got the owner of the McDonalds seriously angry. Angry enough to make a call into the police. And he got the response a local business owner in a small town like that can get from the police. 3) The officer who took the call was a horrible woman who was the daughter of someone very, very important in law enforcement in the area. She had a bad personality. 4) When they got to the hotel room, both sides started escalating. Rather than calm the situation down, the first two police officers kept escalating until there was an all-out fight. 5) The female police officer paniced and called in an emergency for everything short of the national guard to come in. 6) A whole army of different law enforcement then showed up to "save" the first two cops. Alot of people who showed up thought it was funny and dumb. 7) But she and her father were burning angry about the whole thing after. It was about protecting the daughter, saving face and the father defending his family. In some of those towns you can usually get away with a whole lot. But if you mess with the wrong person or the wrong thing, it can get really bad. 8) So the father basically used all his pull locally in the media, the DAs office and the court to the drop the hammer on both guys. Normally a fight with drunks was not that big a deal in those days. Especially with guys like wrestlers. They would have gone to jail for the night or maybe got 30 days & a fine. But because of that one cop and her father was involved, they got two years each. 9) Verne Gagne supposedly pulled every political string he had in Wisconsin up to the level of US Senator. But everybody locally in the town lined up together and no amount of outside political pressure could change the situation.

The rock crashed through the west side drive thru window, flew across the drive thru area, smashed the cash register, bent the stainless steel table and busted several floor tiles.

Ken Patera's version of this incident is a little different from the actual facts. Ken Patera walked across Moreland Road to McDonald's in Waukesha, Wisconsin, a small city connected to Milwaukee. McDonald's was closed and Patera was angry he was not going to be served at the drive-thru window. Standing there, he had a meltdown yelling and cursing at an employee, picked up a large rock and threw it at the window which broke. There was no one else around. He then walked back across the street to his hotel room with Mr Saito. Waukesha county police we're called and entered the hotel and the wrestlers room. Patera and Saito went ballistic and a total of 11 cops were there. 2 cops, 1 which was a woman we're thrown through a wall before they were subdued. His story is greatly embellished. These are the facts. Watertown is a small town Southwest of Milwaukee and did not host an AWA nor WWF event. Cocaine's a helluva drug.

If he did it and just said "Hey, I lost my cool. I am sorry." Cops would have charged him with vandalism, etc, type crime. He probably would have maybe in a cell for a night and agree to a plea deal. Court would have made him py a big fine. If he has no priors, I think that would have happened. If he really did not do it, just go down to station, sit in jail for a night and hire a good lawyer. Either way if he did it or not if he did not fight with cops this would have been a minor infraction. Borderline misdemeanor. No big deal at all. Nobody got hurt when the rock got thrown and there was no intent made on physically hurting anyone. Just get cuffed and go to station. This would have blown over. No big deal. Unless you are defending yourself against real harm from police abuse, dont physically fight with cops.

The thing that makes me doubt him so much is how he was calling the McDonalds employee a prick. Like dude, the person is working at Mcdonalds, they're obviously filming a commercial, they're CLOSED and if they give you a burger and you get sick they could get fired. What would possess you to unjustly punch down on someone who was likely earning minimum wage and just trying to get by and was just doing their job? And then decades later you're STILL going to call this dude out instead of saying "Hey I was hungry and tired and took it out on this poor soul who was just doing their job." His version of events is neither compelling nor flattering to himself.
