I have been on this track for about 4 years now, when the Braves extended Acuna and Albies I said the Jays needed to sign someone to encourage Guerrero and Bichette to sign extensions. But even then I had little to no faith in Shapiro and Atkins those 2 clowns have been doing the same thing since Cleveland, they tell everyone that they're trying for whomever is the top free agent and then say their demands were just too high, and then they sign a handful of role specific players and possibly a big name player in obvious decline and try to tout them as the pieces needed to make a playoff push the whole while ignoring home grown talent, and then letting them walk saying their demands were absurd. Their last 2 years in Cleveland they actually signed free agents and made the club somewhat competetive in an attempt to save their jobs and told the world that cleveland had finally opened the purse strings. Look at the news and magazine articlesfrom the years gone by the proof is all there Shapiro and Atkins are organization poison it's far past time for the jays to get an anedote and be rid of the poisons

I agree, Vlad must be resigned because it makes no sense all of a sudden that the Jays are willing to shell out about 1b between two players while still adding talent and increasing the payroll all while having a depleted farm system. With that said, Soto strikes me as someone who ultimately cares about how much money he can get and would go where the money is.

Pujols was 31 or 32 when he signed with the Angels and in all likelihood was actually older than that due to birth certificate fraud that has been a major issue with Dominican players. Vladdy is Dominican but he was born in Canada so his birthdate would be very hard or maybe impossible to fake.

I wouldn’t take this article too seriously. Ken Rosenthal hasn’t tried to hide his bias against the blue jays for awhile. And I’d assume if we sign Soto it means vlad also extended with him
@ryanc98769 сағат бұрын
I still believe Soto is going to the Mets. They have a better outlook than everyone that we talk about when it comes to Soto not named the Dodgers. And most people believe the Dodgers won't chase Soto and want a price they like, not a price only Soto likes. And long-term it doesn't make sense for them with a lock in their DH slot. Mets on the other hand, while they do need pitching back, they do have Lindor and Vientos--who definitely raised some eyebrows this post season for sure--and we know Cohen is willing to spend. AND I do believe they have room for a future DH.

They could have extended Vladdy after '21, '22 or '23 but didn't. NOW, these are the final days, if it's not already too late, because once Vladdy see's what Soto goes for, the Jays will be priced out for an extension...they'll have to dip back into their "unicorn" fund just to try and re-sign him next offseason when he's out in the open market.

I have said pretty much all of this over the last year or so and just two days ago, in discussing the Vladdy situation, I likened it to the chicken and egg dilemma. This was my response to a poster on The Bob McCowen podcast comments................... I hear ya and you maybe right. Isn't signing Vladdy like the chicken and egg concept though? If you sign Vladdy first that will make it easier to sign others as it looks like they are in it long term ...OR... Wouldn't it be easier to sign Vladdy after you signed others to show him you are in it long term? Personally I don't trust this front office to get anything right but I would love to see Vladdy here long term and competing almost every year.
@danielkim424916 сағат бұрын
Jays could sign vladdy and bo to frontloaded contracts with player opt-out after year 2. They can test free agency while still young enough to secure a long term deal. Bo would appreciate the opportunity to re-establish himself after this year. Then Trade them while eating a lot of the money to get better prospects in trade. Unless the Jays are going to have a payroll in the low $300 million (to get another starting pitcher, two bats that drive in runs, oh and a whole new bullpen) just rebuild! It will be a bad time, but if we start now and maximize the return on what we got now, it might not be too long.
@oldguynewmusic663214 сағат бұрын
These types of assessments on the Blue Jay front office could be accurate, but I think we over simplify the Vladdy situation sometimes. You can blame Management all you want, but the last time I checked there were two sides in any negotiation. Vladdy has to actually want to sign, which I think he does. But maybe the offers he received up to this point didn't match what he feels he's worth. So it's just not a matter of the Blue Jays wanting to extend him. And let's not kid ourselves. The same people who are calling management down for not having him signed would have been all over management for overpaying if they would have given him $300 million last off-season.
@FoMoCo2016 сағат бұрын
I’ve said it another channel, not to be negative but Soto has absolutely no intent on signing with the Jays. There is no superstar free agent that will ever sign in TO. Vladdy isn’t enough of a draw to play with, and nobody wants to play in Canada. The Jays have done nothing over the last few years but get worse, on field and off. Our front office is a disaster and the roster is garbage. There honestly isn’t one incentive to sign with the Jays when you can sign with one of these legendary ball markets like NY, Boston or LA. The Jays will just be used as leverage again in this scenario like with Ohtani and Vlad will sign somewhere else when his contract is up, most likely in one of those three markets. It sucks, but it’s reality.

I'VE BEEN SAYING THAT... PEOPLE DONT BELIEVE SCOTT BORAS LIES. THE BLUE JAYS CAN'T EVEN EXTEND THEIR MAIN STAR AND HE IS CANADIAN HIMSELF. OF Course Mark Shipiro and Atkins are gonna fuck up, they have NEVER worked for a team with MONEY and support like the Jays, they came from a penny-pinching, CHEAP skate organization like the Guardians.... The reason why Jays fans want them out (me included) is the fact that ROGERS are the 2nd richest owners (in terms of Net worth) in the MLB, AND they obviously want to spend money and have the money to spend, and are WILLING to spend it... AND understand sports to an extent, BECAUSE they also have a majority stake in the company that owns the Toronto Maple Leafs (One of the highest paying teams in the NHL... Similar to the Yankees in Baseball) The Toronto FC Soccer team that signed Lorenzo Insigne (An Italian Soccer legend in Italy) for record-breaking money in the MLS, and the Toronto Raptors, who not only won a NBA Championship, but also just recently paid out massive contracts for the 2 core pieces of that team to stay long-term in Toronto.. So the UPPER Management, ownership knows what it takes, and is willing to spend, BUT the JAYS upper management, are still running the team like a SMALL MARKET Team that has no money... That's why the entire fanbase was INFURIATED when Rogers didn't immediately fire, ATLEAST Atkins, and promote James Crick.. The Jays have the financial might behind them and the fan support, but Shapiro and Atkins are RUNNING IT into the fucking ground.

This video is crazy af Vlad jr is NOT signing a 400 million dollar contract. Idc if he hits 60’this year. He plays first base bro. Lmao Too funny … 10’years and 300’is about all any first basemen will muster. He can’t run the bases, he doesn’t play a premium position, and outside of two fantastic years he’s not even all that consistent on offense to justify a 400 million dollar deal. I would put a mortgage payment on that. If he believes that 400 is possible I wanna see him place a bet and show us the stubs from the casino. Not gonna happen dog

Not to defend the FO but last season the jays lost literally their entire bullpen among others. Up until last season the jays were better than both the Yankees and mets so let's not pretend the jays are all of a sudden some shit club. As for Vlad the reason he's not signed is simple, he's been inconsistent the last few years until the last half of the season. Both player and FO want to get a deal done but Vlad needs to grow up and start taking the off-season off. It's hard to put a value on a guy who has had such polar opposite seasons

Why would they sign soto? That's just low hanging fruit! But hey dont worry every seat has a cup holder now! Worrying about how a team will perform is pointless, players will go to the team that offers the most money. If the Rockies offered him $800 million guess what, he's gonna be in Colorado

Soto is also seriously overrated. He wants Ohtani money and is half the player Ohani is. Ohtani is a front-line starter and top tier slugger. Soto is a poor defender with an average (and thats being charitable) arm in a position where you need your strongest outfield arm, RF. Soto also may be 26 going on 27 but he's really more like 30 in baseball years since the dude came up at 19. I'm a Mets fan and want no part of Soto. I want Pete resigned and to bring in lots of SP. Burnes, Crochet, Buehler, Manaea etc. and proper middle relief in the pen. The Blue Jays or Yankees can have him.

Jays should leave Soto to either of the New York teams that can afford the luxury tax. The Jays should concentrate on signing Vladdy , trading for or signing a starting pitcher like Crochet , another outfielder like Santander and a left handed reliever like Tanner Scott. Big bucks for 1 player ( 50 m per year ) or big bucks for 3 players ( total 50 m per year ) that would lay the ground work for a competitive team.
