Local here what a trip as the tour glides by the new 141/ hwy 30/ The Bluffs what it is...and what it was. The only remnant left of Lakehill is the trestle underpinnings of the footbridge are still there,,,twisted and mangled back into the banks of the creek...if you know where to look. That reunion was a blast. One racer put it best..."When you drove under that train tunnel and made it to the other side it was like a carnival every race night...It was a different world." Always wonder what was the story of the split level ranch that sat out of turn 3 at Lakehill.? Wonder what ever became of Allied? I think i still have a clipping from a local paper featuring Kenny finding a vintage tow truck he or one of his sponsors had. Working as a pump jockey out of a Texaco I recall the final days of Lakehill driving my 46 Kaiser out on Sunday nights...just before it's demise. Cool video.

Ken Schrader was and still is the "class" of NASCAR. While watching this video during breakfast this morning... my wife asked me if I wanted another coffee... and said..."is that Ken Schrader?... He's the best". Even with her limited exposure to NASCAR, she knew right away who it was and remembered what a great driver and person he always was. Mitchell... keep doing these videos... you do an awesome job telling the backstories behind the NASCAR drivers us watching have followed for most of our lives.

I've been a Schrader fan for may years. I grew up in the small Missouri town "Licking" where Bill and June Schrader moved to after leaving Fenton Missouri. Great Feature here! KS is a Living Legend for many reasons & events. I can hear Ken’s influence on how Dale Jr speaks today in this upload…KS’s inflections & patterns must be infectious. those two spent a lot of time together during Jr’s formative years (as many of you know) and that proved to be historic for all involved. we’re all better because of Ken’s existence on Earth. thanks for putting this together, 42 Team. great work as always

Thank you for another awesome video! Sometime in the 90’s, Kenny flew into the Quad City airport, I think he was flying a Beech Barron, or P-Barron. I happened to be in the lobby area of the FBO I worked at, (I had just finished for the day). I asked him if he would autograph a die cast of his dirt late model car. Kenny graciously agreed, and waited in the lobby for about 15 minutes, while I ran home to get his car off of my shelf. Kenny, Thank you for the autograph, and the Budweiser from your cooler! 👍🏼😊 I still have that car, back in the original box.

Kennys a legend in the sport. My Father took me and my older brother to Lakehill Speedway as kids, I remember Dad racing his green dodge challenger on the track, whereas Lakehill Speedway in the 1970s would allow you to race another street car one lap on the track, kind of like a run what you brung or a feud resolution, something like that, anyway he raced against a white VW beetle with a surf board on top and lost badly. That's one of many memorious experiences I had at Lakehill. A lot of racing history in this central area and lost tracks, Lakehill, Godfrey, Belleville/bullring, St Charles bowl, Mt Vernon.etc..etc...... :{(

Kenny was friends with my old 6th grade teacher, Mr Schuppan, at Barretts Elementary, on Carmen road. He came to our class, and showed us his racing suit, let us wear his helmet, etc -- I am guessing he was about 18 back then. He came back, and taught an automotive class to several of us -- basic stuff -- I scored the highest test score, and won a Revell Richard Petty car model from Ken. He brought us an engine in the back of a truck -- we wore our ratiest clothes, that we could literally thrown away after. We broke that engine down including taking off the heads -- we were covered in grease from head to toe. He couldn't believe we get that far -- he had to put it all back together by that afternoon!

Wow, you're really cranking out these hometown tour videos. It's fantastic there's someone out there motivated enough to capture these stories on video because those guys aren't getting any younger. You're going to have quite a video library built up if you keep going at this rate! You'll have to set these up as an online museum of sorts someday so when you're old and grey people will still have a place to go and learn about these generations of drivers. I'd be interested in a video of you telling the story of how these all came about and how one hometown ride-along led to another to another to another. It's amazing how far you've come with this channel in just a few years time. You must have an old soul being such an avid fan of racing history. Love to see it.
