*Q: Why is the game running so fast?* A: This is how it runs on MAME and only MAME is accepted on speedrun.com *Q: Why are some names different? M.Bison is Vega, etc... ? Why am I speedrunning the Japanese version?* A: This is the original Japanese version and these are the original names the game was designed with. Detailed explanation available on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._Bison - check the paragraph "Conception and development". A: The cutscene between fights happens faster on the Japanese version and the speedruns can be 15-20 seconds faster than the US version. I dont think this game cheats, you just need to change styles between rounds. You cant bring the same fight to the next round, which certainly makes the game better.
@deviouxFGC5 ай бұрын
@@emptiester There are at least 3 obvious ways the game "cheats": 1. It will do charge moves without charging. For example, Guile can walk forward and do Flash Kick instantly without charging. So, charge time is needed only for human players, not for the CPU. 2. It is not affected by proximity block, so it can walk backwards out of range from your attacks without automatically having "block" triggered. This does not apply to human players. You will automatically block if you are close to your opponent and try to walk back when they press a button. 3. It will do input reading and react to buttons you press on the first frame you press them. How many times did you press a button and you didn't even see it come out on the screen, yet you got countered?! In my opinion, these are a "necessary evil", so to say, because if the game would not "cheat", then humans would find a way to win very consistently, which means the arcade machines would not have generated nearly as much money as they did by "cheating". What you said is also true, you do mostly have to change your style between rounds, but the game does have many moments when it "cheats".

its not. I have not played in over 10 years I could beat this style of play very easily. also it was not on the hardest setting. pause the video and look at his mod stats it says 7 hardest. We all know 8 stars was the hardest difficulty. Also if you played 8 stars you know they block everything. In this play threw the cpu blocked nothing literally nothing. In 8 stars you have to counter a move most of the time and timing is crazy.. if you miss your timing you get punished.. On top of that in a 8 star match ken vs ken if the cpu dragon punches you 20% damage on a unblocked hit. vs your dragon punch on the cpu unblocked 5% damage. This was a 1 star play threw.. If it was a 8 star play threw the hardest it would have had the special ending added to the end of the normal ending.. This is just someone that wanted extra views.. he is not that good..

Fighting games are such a cool thing to speedrun, it's never the same thing and really focused on not only the player's APM but their legit reflexes and reactive thinking.

@@GenMaster You can employ the same strategy but unless you are frame-by-frame perfect, the AI is going to react slightly differently and the match won't proceed precisely the same way (unless you have a strategy where the enemy literally never has a chance to do ANYTHING). Hey. Good stuff dude. I'm a SF Turbo: HF pro player from back in the early 90s. It was fun back seat playing. For me it's like watching Tetris. Sf2 T was the first arcade cab I bought back in '97 and by default I leave mine on level 8 as well. Super easy to beat with no loses for me, but I've never timed myself. Also, I'm a collector and arcade tech for the last 30 years. A bunch of us would practice and some of us would drive up to Jersey and New York on occasion to compete with high level players. There was only a hand full of us here to play. When i worked at Chuck E Cheese no one would play me, and if they saw me coming up, would quit as soon as i put a token in. I was THAT good. I have some video of a bunch of us practicing at our local arcade around 92/94 on VHS. Thanks for the memories. Those slip ups tho. Woo boy, had me heated LOL! 😂 I just came back after a power outage. I think i'll play on my machine and time myself LOL

That is so cool!! I love to hear these kind of stories, those were some of the best memories I have as as kid. We did not have this game at my arcade back in the day, we only had World Warrior, Champion Edition and Super (The New Challengers). I went from being a total scrub to pretty much the top player within like 2-3 years. I played every day like a maniac as much as I could. Nothing on this planet mattered to me more than becoming good at Champion Edition, it consumed me. I've won a lot of local tournaments, but unfortunately, that's as far as it goes. There was no internet back then and competing outside of the local scene was pretty much impossible, travelling alone for hundreds of miles at 14-15-16 years old was too scary, I didn't wanna do it ;) If you have an original hardware machine, you might notice there's a speed difference. This is because I'm playing on the MAME emulator and that's how the game runs on it and only the MAME emulator is accepted on speedrun.com for submitting runs. I'm playing with an arcade stick on PC, but it's so awesome if you have an actual cab. That's the way to play! Enjoy! GL&HF !!

@@deviouxFGC Thanks. Gaming and arcade tech is how I got so connected with the industry, and met a ton of people, like Justin Wong of course. Met him at Magfest maybe a year or so after Evo moment 37 dropped. He ended up dating one of my friends, so I would see him at local cons or gaming events in my area or near. Never take a food bet with him. Lol! I don't think 20 bucks was worth my friend DRINKING that concoction Justin made at the Chinese buffet LOL!. If you ever get a chance to check out Magfest, we have two shows. Our main one is on the east coast in January at the Gaylord near the Pentagon, and one in California called Mag West. I'm the head tech for the arcade, and have been involved since mag 3, and 21 was last January. My gf is the head of the arcade and the head of the board of directors for all Mag the last few years. If you ever get a chance, check us out. We had 400 arcades. They have speed run panels where audiences watch you. Usually i see it as a charity thing, or maybe just a panel. Btw, my sf2 came with two boards. One was sf2 and the other was turbo, but I gave the old board away as it stopped working. I only used it to do the old Guile and Dhalsim glitches 😎

@@namco003 That's so cool! The scene in the US is incredible. I could have only dreamed of being part of something like that back in the day. Around these parts it was waaaay smaller, just a handful of dudes who could play good and as time went by, just kept getting smaller and smaller. Is such a performance only possible using an arcade gamepad? Or is it possible to get at least close to it using a SNES or X-box-type gamepad?
@deviouxFGC8 ай бұрын
It is possible with any kind of controller, especially gamepad, any kind of gamepad. It is possible even with a keyboard. You just have to be able to execute moves and combos correctly. Playing A LOT is what is most important, not the controller. Choose whatever controller you like and whatever controller you can execute moves and combos with. I have at least 20k hours on SF2 and I prefer arcade stick, but if you play 20k hours on keyboard, you will be very good on keyboard and if you play 20k hours on gamepad, you will be very good on gamepad. You can be very good even with 2-3k hours, every person is different, some people learn faster than others, some people are more talented than others, but the key to success is playing A LOT, with whatever controller you can execute moves and combos.
