I went to Kenai Fjords before the pandemic. Before the boat tour in the park, I asked the ranger on the boat if we would be able to see some bears on the boat tour (I really wanted to see a bear), and she replied that there's a very small chance we'll see one, and they tend to hang out on the beaches near the glaciers. As a result, I kinda gave up hope trying to spot one on the tour. Many wildlife sightings later on our boat, we approached the Holgate Glacier, and then someone on our boat spotted a little black bear hanging out near the beach, literally just like what the ranger described it. I was a bit younger back then and it literally made my day seeing that bear, one of the craziest coincidences of my entire life! By far the highlight of my trip in Kenai Fjords. Btw, I think we did the exact same tour you did in the video and we also saw a bunch of whales and orcas :D

My mom officially completed her goal of seeing all 48 states of the mainland… hoping to convince her to see Alaska with me next (and Hawaii with my sister). This is on my wishlist of places to take her-maybe making her watch this will convince her. 😅😂❤🎉😊

We took a 4 hour trip on Spirit of Adventure with Major Marine in May. Wonderful experience. We saw a humpback whale and followed it around a while, also saw a glacier, otters, harbor seals, and orcas. Not to mention the views were incredible the entire trip.

We did this tour 10 years ago. Although I was very nauseous from the rough waters (I forgot to take motion sickness meds), it was still an incredible experience that I would do again in a heartbeat (with the meds this time!).

Took that exact tour. Captivating. We went in May and had very nice weather. Warm? No, but not as cold as it appeared for you. We didn't see bubble feeding, but I have seen it out of Rhode Island. Over the top, probably 15-20 whales doing it and were all around the boat. The nature guides were more like tourists than we were. Going bonkers because had never seen anything like it to that extent. Some had been doing it for a decade. We got very, very lucky but no matter how many whales, doing it, simply amazing. Seagulls going right into the whales' mouths to grab fish! Wonderful video. Alaska is like not other place on the planet. That and Iceland. Our two favorited places we have ever visited. You cannot get them out of your head.

This is amazing! I live here in Aialik Bay and love to see people's excitement when they get to see the glaciers here. The glacier you are referring to as Aialik Glacier is actually the Holgate Glacier. Holgate Glacier is relatively stable and doesn't calve as much as Aialik Glacier.

I had to laugh when you said you and Amy were about the only 2 crazy enough to sit on top. When our family went to Washington a couple summers ago, we did a whale watching tour and were pretty much the only crazy people braving it on the top deck too! We didn't want to miss anything by being inside. When they tell you to plan for cold, they are not kidding.

We did this trip in late May and they had 9ft swells. Both of us were so sick, and we both took motion sickness meds in advance. With that being said, the crew was amazing, and incredibly helpful. We never got to see a breach, but we did have a whale blow in front of the glacier, so that was pretty nice. I would definitely recommend this vendor to see this park. Just know if you can't accept motion sickness to get to the good stuff, this might not be the best tour. Love your video!

@@ThroughMyLens Yea, we were both okay with it. No fault on anyone. We both did great on Dry Tortugas earlier this year, and it rained on the way out there. But it is Alaska, and we took meds. Still, when visiting anywhere, just make the most of it. By the way, we just visited Point Lobos a couple weeks ago, and your video was super helpful. Thank you! We came up from Pismo to Monterey Bay, and due to the Hwy 1 closure, we just decided to double down to Point Lobos. Honestly, we've never been to Big Sur, but we had such a great day, we call it The Better than Big Sur hike. HA!

Glad you guys had such a great experience! Even though Nevada is in my channel name, I was born and raised in Alaska. 7 years in Bird Creek, 18 years in Seward, and 5 in Anchorage. Next time you are in Seward hike: Harding Icefield, Mt Marathon, and Caines Head!

I'm in northern Nevada just south of Reno. Got sick of all the snow in Alaska, so I moved to a state that means snow-covered in Spanish... But really, it is much warmer and less snowy thannwhat I dealt with up there, and the Sierras are a great mountain range to play in!

I did spend a summer in Loveland CO back in 2008. Amazing experience! Bagged five 14'ers. Left two weeks before the snow fell. I'd easily live there if the winters weren't so rough. The great thing about where I'm at now is that Sacramento is only two hours away, they are at 100 ft in elevation, and they have palm trees. Easy to escape winter whenever necessary!

Hey great footage from kenai fjords! It sounded like you accidentally swapped the names for the two big glaciers you visited, the first one you went to was holgate glacier not aialik. Surprise glacier is to the left hand side of holgate. Then aialik was the glacier that’s nearly a mile wide and you got margarita ice from.
