Kennan's saying that some standups aren't satisfied by playing a tree in the background of a sketch, and similar sort of things that are part of being an SNL cast member. Plus Keenan is the best part of SNL and he's been there a long time, he might just know what he's talking about. Shane is great, SNL screwed him over, but maybe it just wasn't going to be a cool fit for him anyway. Shane even says he benefitted from the rejection and public controversy.

@vjmtz
@vjmtz Күн бұрын
@@jele5116He clearly wants to go off and do other things. He tried having his own show and that failed badly. He now does commercials a lot. So I think he wants out and knows it’s getting bad for him. He might be the longest running cast member in SNL history honestly. Unlike Murphy, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell….Keenan clearly isn’t a creative type and not a writer, but just a comedic actor. Murphy was a solid well known comedian in NYC before SNL and was easy to jump either on his own or into movies. Fey was head writer during the golden era of SNL before performing and had the connections, writing ability, and acting to do her own thing and jump started a ton of careers. Ferrell is like Keenan, but he luckily had someone who writes with and for him - Adam McKay. McKay and then Todd Philips saved him and pulled him with them when they left to do movies. I don’t think Keenan has someone he works with to do that or the ability to do it himself. And that hurts him. You can see this being a thing for others from SNL who didn’t make it post SNL. It’s either they relied on others to write them good material or they were a dick to an extent that no one else wanted them. Who knows in his case overall

Well this is some real bullshit right here. Seeing Keenan wearing sunglasses inside, hardly looking at Mark or Sam, and telling people he misses certain types of comedies, when he’s the first comedic example of living in his parent’s basement because he can’t stay afloat out in the real world. Fat Albert didn’t help, his TV show didn’t help, and his appearance on the Fraggle Rock reboot sure as shit didn’t help. So Lorne has kept him in Studio 8H because he’s a comedy bum and can’t make it on his own. And since he’s been on SNL, it’s gotten worse, and he’s never been a bright spot other than What Up With That and the Scared Straight sketches- and every SNL fan agrees, even those wore out their welcome. He’s too cartoonish and he’s the same guy in every sketch. Plus, what has he done to improve the show since Hader, Wiig and Sudeikis have left? He really looks like he’s somewhat Big-Timing Mark and Sam, but they’ve done way funnier shit than Keenan ever has. Keenan just does what SNL tells him because that’s all he has left. He’s a stereotype of bad comedy, and we’ve all known it for years.

Just because he's able to get laughs no matter what type he plays doesn't mean he's the same in every skit. Also how are people gonna act like SNL is some kind of career stagnation, whether it be for a comedian or serious actor, they are viewed by millions of people, a lot of which enjoy the content, and still make well above the average salary. I believe it's a "young writers not having wild experiences" type of thing, and rather 100% of their comedy is based off things they read online or political debates they had on some comments thread. No one comes into the room anymore who's full of hilarious, wild stories. Those folks make the best writers / standup comics.

Shane Gillis is a star to a large part because SNL rejected him. A giant American audience is sick of woke scolding and starved for somebody to lampoon it.

1995 to 2012 was the pinnacle of comedy movies. I'm struggling to find any of that irreverent comedy anymore. It was loose, fun, and didn't worry about who you offended.

I agree with "let the audience tell you" - but let's be real here, that's exactly what happened when Shane got cut. A bunch of people said they didn't like the idea of SNL hiring him. SNL acted accordingly, and fired him. I'm not here to say if that was wrong or right - but the audience told you, just like how you supposedly want it to be.

This is the new golden age of comedy and SNL simply ain’t part of it. It’s stand up, and podcasts. No one at work Monday morning is talking about a funny sketch they saw Saturday night, they’re talking about “did you hear the latest such and such podcast”

Nobody in the clip or even the comments brought up that Shane does the single best impression of Trump out there! Way better than the guy doing it on SNL now. He'd be perfect for that role on SNL now.
